I don't think Micky was trying to be uptight. It seems more like their two senses of humour aren't compatible. You see Micky crack a few jokes, but they don't seem to land, and vice versa. Then there's a variety of other potential factors, like maybe Micky was tired and we don't know what happened before or after the interview. Either way, this isn't Micky at his best. Peter Tork's interview was far better

I actually really like Nardwuar's way of interviewing in this one, being a bit more investigative and serious, but still with all the funny little quirks. That Dolenz dude, tho... correcting an interviewers grammar and shit, man, he sure seems like a great guy!

George Michael "Micky" Dolenz, Jr. nacido en Los Ángeles (California) el 8 de marzo de 1945, es un actor, músico, director de televisión, personalidad de radio y director de teatro. Es más conocido como el miembro baterista y cantante de la banda hecha para la televisión The Monkees, en la década de 1960. Es hijo de una familia de actores y previamente fue la estrella de un programa de TV llamado Circus Boy.

I remember watching this video back in the mid-90s and it ruined my image of Micky Dolenz. I never knew he could be so arrogant. Anyway, what was Nardwuar talking about not growing up with the Monkees in Canada? I'm also from Vancouver and about the same age. The Monkees were always on TV in Vancouver when we were kids.

Wow, this was a treat. Nice to see throwback Nard. This guy was a fucking turd but at least he gave Nardwuar a shot. Nice to see where he came from and to see how much he's grown in his craft and perfected it. Good stuff.

Nardwaur made this interview happen and it was crap. Micky doesn't interview like this normally. This was a horrible interview BC of Nardwaur, whomever tf that is

Micky is well known as a great guy , very funny and down to Earth. I think he is likely playing the part of an a--hole for this interview. But if he was genuinely being a jerk, he's only human. And its very clear that not much research was done before the interview.

N: You were in a band. M: No, I wasn't in a band. I was in a show about a band. LATER N: The Missing Links, wasn't that - M: That was my band before the Monkees. Bitterness aside, Dolenz was more a genuine band member of the Monkees than anyone else. He sang most of the songs. Apart from a couple guitar tracks by Nesmith and I think maybe Tork on keys one or twice, the instruments were all played by session musicians. Jones sang a few songs and banged a mean tambourine.

Absolutely wrong. Nesmith was an accomplished guitarist, Tork was a folk guitarist who knew a variety of instruments, Micky knew guitar and sang and David had experience singing in theater productions. They did not record at first because of executive decisions at the show, they just would not have time to do that and tape the shows. They did play all their instruments on tour and on the album “Headquarters” and afterwards.

@@theresawilson7499 I think we're largely in agreement here. The Monkees didn't play musical instruments they pretended to play on their hits, but Mickey sang on most of them and Davy sang a few. I admire your passion, but saying, for example, "Micky knew guitar" changes nothing I've said. It actually comes across as desperate and confused.

Nardwaur was saying he was in a band, referencing the monkees as the band he was in. Micky corrected to say, not a band but a TV show about a band. That's it. Before the monkees, he was actually in a band where he sang and played guitar. He was a musician, but he was an actor first. There was nothing confusing about this in the interview... only in your post as if micky spoke in tongue. It was very clear

He probably wasn't briefed beforehand what kind of interviewer he was. Same with Peter Tork. I think they were both completely taken by surprise.
