I have rarely been as hyped as i was when i watched Rock Lee drop his weights for the first time. Him and Might Guy should hold a special place in every Naruto fan's heart.

During the two episodes of the Rock Lee vs Gaara fight, Kishimoto decided to let Rock Lee experience what it was like to be the main character. A wise decision so he became one of the fans' favorites. And Shikamaru who also took over the role as the main character replacing Naruto in the Hidan & Kakuzu Invasion Arc for a while. He really is the GOAT for real!

The only difference between Nick's list and my own is for the Land of Waves arc I had Haku as the best. Even though he's technically a villain, he was extremely complex and made you question whether or not he could really be considered a villain as opposed to a victim. His presence in the storyline is what makes it such an emotional arc because he's the catalyst for the first character development we see in the story between Naruto, Sasuke, and Zabuza. To me, his response to his own trauma makes him one of the most "human" characters Kishimoto ever created.

Hiruzen 100% best Konoha Crush character. Little ass 8th grade me hearing him giving that speech about the strength of the leaf and the will of fire absolutely lit something in me and was one of the moments that solidified the fact that I was going to watch this entire show no matter how long it is. And I did. Edit: and don't even get me started on how much I cried during his funeral. I always hated young Konohamaru, he annoyed the hell out of me, but seeing him crying at the loss of his grandfather and basically last remaining family (on screen at least) broke me

Hear me out when I say Choji is the best from the Sasuke retrieval arc. He was nothing but a goof ball, always snacking and whining. But he stepped up to the guy who stopped the whole squad dead in their tracks, took that red pill of guaranteed death to stop him from going after his friends, and butterfly bombed himself into an absolute legend.

Almost two weeks and I can't seem to find part 2 anywhere 😅

Very solid list; I would personally put Zabuza or Haku for Land of Waves simply based off of how incredibly dynamic they were as villains with such a compelling relationship. Sasuke Retrieval is super tough, I think Choji has the most compelling battle between all of the Konoha 12 (besides Naruto & Sasuke of course). But then when the sand siblings show up to save the day, there is something particularly cathartic about Gaara saving Lee considering their history, it shows great character development for Gaara, also Kimmimaro was peak in both design and abilities.

Nick will never run out of Naruto content and I’m here for it❤❤

I like the fact that you had Naruto as the top in the search for Tsunade, but also because it's an important part of jiraiyas development as well. He's spent so much time trailing after orochimaru and keeping out of village business and then obviously we find out his backstory as minatos teacher and Naruto's godfather, it really gives a lot of weight to the development of their relationship.

Yes I remember Hiruzen vs orochimaru being quite insane in the anime. It showed us the highest level of technique we had ever seen, and showed us forbidden jutsu, and it showed what a hokage truly is: the defender of the village until death. His sacrifice was beautiful, and I remember being so angry that orochimaru survived the reaper. That’s because kishimoto wrote a great character in hiruzen and I was sad to see his sacrifice sorta be in vain.

I had Sasuke, Lee and Hiruzen on my list before the intro was over. I can agree with Shikimaru for Sasuke Retreaval and Naruto is the logical choice in SFT. He is the character that has the most to do. You forgot to mention it is also the arc where he truly masters Talk no Jutsu.

An interesting phenomenon I have found in the last 8-14months is that most people who start Naruto "now" consider the first few episodes the first arc. The way they are portraying the series is "Graduation" arc, then "land of waves" arc. The justification for it is actually pretty solid, the episodes before Naruto leaves the village there actually is a small character arc. Kuruma sealed in Naruto (inciting event) Naruto fails the graduation exam but is told another way (call to action) Naruto uses the forbidden technique to protect the person he cares about most (defining moment) Naruto is paired with his worst rival during team selection (the awakening) kakashi beats team 7 and threatens to fail them (moment of enlightenment) Sasuke and Sakura break the rules and feeds Naruto knowing that doing so will cause them all to fail (near death experience) kakashi explains that by working as a team, even though he forbade it, they all pass(transformation moment) team 7 is told they are ready for a real mission(climax) leaving the village for the first time resolution. And if this is enough to justify calling it an arc I submit Iruka-sensei for best character. He knew Naruto's loneliness and tried to be there for him, knew what Naruto was but never held any ill will against him, had faith that Naruto could be great but refused to give him special treatment because it would only hurt his student in the long run.

When Naruto first did rasengan, he didn't catch Kabutos kunai between his fingers. It legit went through his hand. The anime censored it.

I've never met somebody that intros their videos with a 5 minute explanation of what the videos will be on like every video. Still love the content, I just usually fast forward 3 minutes every video now.

I love Rock Lee, but in my opinion the one who shone in that arc was neji. From his fight with Hinata, to Naruto(that yes he lost, but only because of the nine tails), all that was revealed about his history, him using main family abilities that he shouldn't know. Honestily, the part where he took os the hitai and looked straight into Hiashi gave me chills. And in the end he evolved so much, actually changing his opinion by reading his fathers letter and losing to Naruto

I actually think Orochimaru is the best character in the Chunin Exam arc. Prior to his introduction the arc was amazing. But that moment he is introduced the arc goes from amazing to flat out peak Naruto. His intro reminds me of Mihawk’s intro in Baratie. It expanded the Naruto universe. It was epic world building using a character. Yes Rock Lee was awesome. And in any other arc his performance would be best character worthy. But it just can’t compete with our top creepy snaky guy villian Orochimaru.

Some of his newer videos aren’t doing as well so fingers crossed that this amazing upload is rewarded accordingly 🤞

In the retrieval arc... I see Gaara as being the best character.. He is trying to do right by Lee. protect him, even if it'd cost him his own life. Gaara completely changed his view and yearns for friends. To me Gaara's the M.V.P.

That actually summarized how I feel about a LOT of characters in the series. It's so long that each phase of a character feels like almost different ones. For example, Saskue. He's interesting as a kid, and Fantastic as an adult, but GOD he's insufferable once he goes nuts. I'm angry on BEHALF of Sakura (who's my favorite, sue me) because SERIOUSLY THATS AN ENTIRE QUILT OF RED FLAGS. Similarly, Neji (also a favorite) is interesting in the first arc but GOD he's SUCH and adorable older brother to Hinata that I'm INSULTED he got killed off. I wanna know how they reconciled so bad it hurts! Sakura is also really compelling to me too, I freaking love how determined she is when she takes herself seriously, but I really wish she was written better. Her feelings about being left behind and ignored in a male dominated ninja career where pedigree is everything would be compelling if they TOOK HER SERIOUSLY. The problem is A, the writer can't write women for shit, B, the parts where she doesn't take herself seriously really piss me off, and can we PLEASE acknowledge how she feels/is left out of things constantly? Does anyone ever tell her the truth about the Uchiha Massacre? It's insane cause in Universe she's a FREAKING big deal but the writing did her so dirty.....

Call me insane because I think orochimaru slightly outshines rock lee in the chunin exams, he was plain and simply THAT GUY in the chunin exams and basically all of part 1 for that matter and it was such a phenomenal introduction that if it weren’t for madara being equally amazing I would’ve kinda wished that orochimaru was the final villain

Not going to lie. You started the Konoha Crush arc, and I had my ideas, but you said Hiruzen and I went "oh. Yeah ok. That tracks." The way you explained Sasuke in the beginning, Naruto and Shikamaru after the invasion, and of course everybody loves Rock Lee vs Gaara... Yeah. That makes sense. Think I had a couple before you said anything that matched, but after, I'm 5 for 5 with you.

In Naruto Naruto was the best character in every arc man was so inspirational and stood on business no matter what and nobody could tell him shit

For me: 1) Land of waves: Zabuza. His presence was made clear that the bridge builder lied about the mission rank. His death was sad yet poetic. Naruto helped open his eyes to realize how special Haku was to him, not just a tool. 2) Chunin exam: Rock Lee. 3) Konoha crush: Hiruzen. 4) Search for Tsunade: Naruto. 5) Sasuke retrieval: Shikamaru. In my opinion, this is where we see the beginning of his own 'will of fire'. Besides the Akatsuki Suppression Mission arc where Asuma died, this is the lowest point of his young life. He failed his first and important mission to get Sasuke back and felt so terrible about how things ended that he wanted to quit being a ninja at the hospital.

I agree Shikamaru was my favourite in SRA, but I think his best arc was the ASA. The way that he basically takes the spotlight to avenge his master and stop Hidan and Kakazu is very compelling for me, easily his best arc. (I used the acronym version of arcs so no one is confused)

Im gonna put my opinion on this as well Land of Waves; Zabuza, he is one of if not my favorite character personally and his arc is really interesting in this Arc Chunin Exams; Rock Lee, For Obvious Reasons he is Rock Lee (Honorable mentions.. Anko for even more obvious reasons) Konoha Crush; Hiruzen Sarutobi, I am a hiruzen defender all the way and I love him as a character and this is an amazing showing for him and his self sacrafice is very well done Search for Tsunade; Jiraiya, Jiraiya being a good teacher and actually wholesome is my favorite from the Arc Sasuke Retrieval Arc; Choji Akimichi, though he doesnt do as much as other characters Choji has those amazing flashbacks and his battle is probobly the on of the most emotional sections of the arc and is really good

Wow nobody saying congrats to the editor for becoming a parent/having another child? Congrats to the editor on his child coming soon!(?) Hope you get some good time off to spend bonding with them when they are here!! As for the video, I agree on a lot of the points. Land of waves could have easily been a toss up between Zabuza based solely on character development since he went from his brooding demon of the mist persona to a caring and compassionate comrade to Haku after Naruto talked his smack, but Sasuke definitely showed some similar development that wasn't capitalized on and basically forgotten about once he started seeing naruto as a rival. The chunin exams could have easily been naruto or Sasuke as well, but diversity in the list is needed otherwise it would mostly be those 2 on each arc in all of them before shippuden in my opinion, so no arguments from me. But the Sasuke retrieval arc is probably the one I agree with most. He hit the mark in his reasoning, but it's more than that. This arc is basically the next major milestone that laid the ground work for putting shikamaru as the mastermind of strategy he becomes in later moments he shines, following the foundation of his performance in the konoha crush arc, and not including shino, any other person put into the team would have probably caused the mission to fail with far worse results than what was achieved from the team he did choose. Also I don't remember if he chose who stayed in each fight, I think some he did and some offered. But the match-ups were near perfect. Nobody on the team had a fighting chance in Neji's place since the gentle fist provided the offensive capabilities and defense needed to combat the overwhelming swarms of enemies, he just so happened to possibly be the only person to break out of the genjutsu in his fight, and Kiba was probably the best for his fight since it went from a 2v1 to a 2v2 even though they didn't know the abilities at the time. Choji's fight might have been doable by most others but he couldn't have fit the mold for any other fight, so he was able to shine. Without even knowing it, he had people who were able to fight the sound 4 near perfectly (even though 2 of the fights were near-draws with one having to basically use steroids and the other 2 had sand siblings interfere, not including Lee since he wasn't originally on the team but later joined), his genius definitely shined this arc

I was leaning towards Kakashi or Zabuza for the 1st arc based on my memory, but after hearing your justification for Sasuke I'm with you. I matched the rest

what you said about Sasuke in the land of waves part hits me differently. I like him more for doing that and then realizing later that it wasn't enough when he saw Itachi again. i'm Real sad that Sasuke didnt come back till the end I really wish he would of came back earlier. Maybe post start of Shippuden after Orochimarus death or right after Itachi death.

Aside from Hiruzen, my guesses were pretty on point. And Naruto I guess, but I assumed he would be getting saved for the Pain arc or something. Without that assumption I could've figured as much.

You should do what if What if the 3rd hokage killed Orochimaru Right off the bat when he discovered what he was doing instead of letting him flee. A lot of things will change irrevocably due to that decision. No sound village. The kazakhga would still be alive. There would be no prefected edo tensi . Sasuke would never leave the village. Lady Tsundy would have never become hokage or trained Sakura. And I'm sure there's a whole lot more That he was involved with behind the scenes That I can't even fathom So if he never gets a chance to do that, that creates an entirely different, very interesting, alternate reality. And I'd love to see you take a crack at.
