@@hip-hophistorybuffI think its expectations. I like the song but I feel its Nas that carried it. This is not top tier Preem. Its good but compare it to the joint he gave Ab-Soul, Gotta Rap, that's the calibre of production I think Nas deserves from Preem.

A lot of people on all sides of this little debate are wrong imo. Those saying this is just another classic style preem beat- no , it's not , it doesn't begin to come close to his best beats, and there's a whole lot of them. But those saying he's lost it - obviously premier made something this stripped down & basic as a promo track for a reason. I mean it's not like he wasn't aware of the reaction it would get from some people. Guarantee there will be a bunch of really dope beats on this project. Also - '94 preem hadn't even evolved to the trademark chopping style he's known for yet. But those loops on illmatic were dope af and classic no matter what era you're listening to them in

@@hip-hophistorybuff naah they shouldn't do another. They made arguably the best rap/reggae album of all time and they should left it alone. This is not just a new Nas album after a 6 album run, this is a new Nas album produced by Preemo, come on! Also, everytime an emcee you like releases a song, there's a chance you'll like it and a chance you won't. The best Nas can do for us is to release as many songs as he can, so every now and then there's a nice new Nas song for us to hear, because there are more chances of you liking one of the songs. I'm glad this dude never slowed down. Such a legend.

@@karlovanjak2576 I was thinking maybe a Rap/Reggae album with more spiritual Reggae/Dancehall artists like Buju Banton, Damian, Capleton, Sizzla etc. Maybe a pop Rap and Dancehall track with Sean Paul. Common knowledge. Primo hasn't used his Akai S-950 in about 15 years, and that's the reason a lot of his old fans don't enjoy any of his new beats. The S-950 was a 12 bit machine that gave a warm sound to his samples. His new productions sound off because it's too clean.

The beat grew on me. It's simple yet effective. It's typical cypher style production. If anything I wonder about the duo's ability going forward to create full hooks and choruses with flair and variety. Do they rely on features to accomplish that? Do they just double down on the tried and true 90's formula? Ideally, I would hope for something similar to the first MAGIC album...not too many tracks, no skits and gritty but soulful production. What if they re-imagined a couple of songs from those I Am, Untitled and Streets Disciple albums with newer, better beats? Or what if Nas expounds on some of the themes formerly touched on by Gangstarr? The possibilities are endless.

Can you imagine Nas rapping over the beat Preemo made (wasted) for Teflon's contradand, or Benny the butcher's Time is rough? Or an Nas album full of such beats? It would be a classic. The expectations are high when you are talking about these two legends.

On first listen: I can instantly tell why it got that reaction. The beat is not dynamic like your normal Premo beat. It just sounds like he gave Nas a loop. A stripped down one, at that. Even the scratches are very cut and dry. If I had to guess… that’s what it is. It’s not bad, it’s not great, it’s just plain. Pete Rock was threatening a lawsuit on Nas last year, so… there’s that obstacle, I guess

I don't like that some are saying all over the socials etc. that Preemo needs to level up his production for new Nas, he is a universal master of boom bap style production with levels beyond anybody anywhere, their collab can't go bad, i hate to say it, you see while Dre is keeping his songs in a vault, Preemo is sending all out, are some greater than others, yes, but at least they are out there, and i would took worst ( if you can find it ) Preemo production over some Dre's ( we will hear his new Snoop collab, look that is gonna sell no matter what even if it's not gonna be for everybodys taste, just like Preemo and Nas album it will also not gonna be for everybody ), but i mean song is G🌟, what is a great Dre production after let's say 2010 to today, to me as a HIP HOP FAN i can't just pick Nas as the greatest, same as i can't just pick Preemo as the greatest, they are both few of the greatest, you can't say it like that about legend that is Preemo, like Nas is above Preemo, because that is just not true, i look forward to hear this , R.I.P. GURU, BIG L, BIG PUN now i'm done ❤️🤘🏻🖖🏻✌🏻

I think most people on the internet complain just to complain cause I thought the track was pretty solid and dope. Though I do get a little bit of the hate with the Preemo beat not being as solid as they thought cause like you mentioned when I first heard it I wasn’t that crazy about it myself either. But the beat did a grow on me a little bit after multiple listens as well. Nas definitely had some really solid verses as you would expect and it’s the perfect warm up track to just get things set off for the promo for their album. I also liked and thought it was funny how Preemo was like he was starting to rap at the end of the track.

If anyone is doubting that primo still got it, go listen to what he did with El Grant and Macklemore last year . (Yes Macklemore, I know) This is one of those like soundtrack joint or mixtape joints that get leaked before the album, like a preview. But if the album sounds anything like that posthumous gangstarr album a few yrs ago, I dont want it.

Well it ain't 94 and Nas has grown since then I don't expect that but his current run has been good. Yes I don't think this is the best Premo beat but for a teaser I'm still gonna hold off til we hear more. I'm just happy both men r still here too many lost in hip hop often by senseless violence.

I’m what you would call an old head and I agree that Preemo is past his prime. The beat is mid and after hearing Nas on one of the beatmakers for the past 4 years it ain’t good enough anymore. Nas fell right back into picking uneven production and they better tighten up for the album or it will definitely be a bad look. It is what it is.

I think this is far from being the best Nas' song, or best Preemo beat. That being said, I think this song is just fine and far from being among the more boring songs they made. A decent hip hop track, with a decent beat, with decent lyrics, which I'll certainly listen to more times and include in my playlist. Additionally, I don't think it is wise for anyone to release the best song of the album before the album drops. I mean, I know it would get people to hear the rest, but two of the greatest hip hop legends of all time are probably above that. We are not talking about two regular dudes, they literally made history. Nas is arguably the GOAT emcee, Preemo is arguably the GOAT producer. Hip Hop heads will listen to the entire album even if they hate the first released song, and at that point in their career, why would they even bother reaching other public? They're not your regular mainstream hip hop, they're the classic stuff. Let'em do their work the way they think it should be done. I'm just glad I'm alive to see this album coming. Ps: I would also like to say it was easier to impress people in the 90s because everything was new. After all these years, all the legends we saw, all the golden tracks that were made, a new golden track we'll be just a new golden track, not a novelty. If you want novelty, go check the new musical genres being developed nowadays, maybe trap songs or whatever. I want that classic stuff back.
@hip-hophistorybuff
