The new space race is finally heating up this year, so many new launches in just one month and a half. If this moon landing and the ones to come such as Viper are successful, we'll surely see a moon landing in 2026.

@ygreaterr I honestly don't think WW3 will happen at least in the next 20 years, a war even as big as WW1 today wouldn't be beneficial for any of the participants, a more pacific competition like a new space race or a technological race would.

@ygreaterr Obviously there's always a risk, specially when people like Putin or Kim Jong-Un are in possession of nuclear weapons, but realistically (unless one of them has a mental breakdown) they know going into war would mean their doom. So the best thing we can do is staying positive and wait until the future arrives.

I went to FIT. Our flight schools used to compete back in the 1970s. I was there to see Apollo 13, 15, 16. Four of us took my buddy's dad's C-172 at night to fly up the Banana River past Titusville and circle the small restricted area over the Cape and around one of the Apollo Saturn Fives. I'm guessing it was Apollo 16. We were at 2000 ft MSL and circuled the very small restricted area over the ocean and circuled back over the land. The spotlights were shinging bright at that beautiful rocket. The wind was strong that evening and as we came back over land, we slowed down enough to watch a drive-in movie for a few minutes before we landed. The movie was a black and white porno, believe it or not. So we hung out for a while. The good old days for sure.

I really like your videos! At 10:53 in your video, you showed the Solar Dynamic Observatory's video of Sunspot region AR 12192 (2192), which was actually on the solar surface on October 24, 2014. Over several days in October 2014, AR 12192 (2192) produced six X Class Flares: It spit out: 1.) X 4.58, 2.) X 2.96, 3.) X 2.88, 4.) X 2.39, 5.) X 1.58, and 6.) X 1.5. This sunspot group occurred in Solar Cycle 24 (previous cycle) and traveled across the Sun's surface 6 months after Solar Maximum in Solar Cycle 24. Solar Max for Solar Cycle 24 occurred in April 2014. Its common for some of the largest sunspots and flares to occur after the Maximum, which is the case with 2192. And, AR 12192 (2192) very well may have been the largest Sunspot group for Solar Cycles 23 through the current one, Solar Cycle 25. As of yet, the largest sunspot group produced by Solar Cycle 25 seems to have occurred in May, 2022, and it was Sunspot region AR13014 (3014), which was measured around 1190 MH. For comparison, Sunspot region AR 12192 (2192) in your video was recorded at 2750 MH, which is over twice the size of anything that Solar Cycle 25 has produced. Further complicating the state of Space Weather, the Wilcox Solar Observatory made this claim on their website: The SC25 solar max may already be in the past as the 365-day smoothed solar flux peaked on June 27, 2023. So, Solar Max for Cycle 25 may have already happened. But, it is a wait and see to get conformation on the Max. Thank you for all the work you do on documenting all the new rockets.

Apollo didn't have to worry about how lunar sand blasts around. It is so cool that we are serious enough about a lunar base that we are getting data for planning. The lunar lander fuel gauge technology sounds cool. All Apollo had was a stopwatch estimate. Landing with only 15 seconds left of fuel on Apollo 11 was a real nail biter. I wish Starship had a better abort capability on launch and lunar landing.

One has to wonder why fuel tanks on landers do not utilize a “piston wiper” system in a cylinder style tank… as with a hydraulic ram type cylinder. Regardless of gravity or motion, the piston would force the fuel to the output line.

But there would be no reciprocating motion, only constant pressure to the supply lines for the engines or turbo pumps for larger engines… mote like a hydraulic cylinder were pressure from a COPV would apply pressure above a piston or ram with O-Ring seal to the sidewalls of the fuel tank minimizing volumetric space so as the fuel is used (depleted) it would keep the remaining fuel moving towards the line feeding the engines or turbo pumps

Metal pistons inside a cryogenic tank filled with cryogenic fuels or propellants would be subject to metal expansion and contraction from the cold temperatures, thus losing desired effects. Other materials would not withstand the cryogenic temperatures and fail as well. If a motorized piston were used as opposed to a hydraulic piston, having electrical connections inside a tank is hazardous, and a spark could ignite the fuel. Also, maintaining a piston rate of motion to desired tank pressures and fuel flow consumption rate would be difficult to determine and maintain accurately.

@@Tinman_56 yes I agree with your points. It is such an extreme environment. I worked with extreme pressure but high temp for 41 years before I retired. 20,000 psi at 500 degrees F is easier than the cryogenic side of the spectrum

Some private companies are already interested in building lunar houses, take that together with a possible boom in space tourism and you'll get at least one company with the idea of building a Moon camp for tourists. So your dream might not be too far-fetched!

My comment is about your video one year ago related to establishing a lunar city. Three issues can be resolved using in situ resources. Baking the lunar rocks at high temps could liberate oxygen and metals for making tools and glass, as it contains mostly oxygen (O), silicon (Si), iron (Fe), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), aluminum (Al), manganese (Mn) and titanium (Ti). This (1) produces oxygen, (2) reduces the payloads required, and (3) the glass and plastics for a dome, which of course would need new tech to insulate and polarize to protect from radiation. Similarly for Mars. We would still need to bring food, machines, and hab, but it would be a lot easier. One way to think about this is to watch the "Gold Rush" TV series, where miners must bring all they need to the bare and remote Yukon, habs, food, machines and spares. But if we can use the native resources for water, oxygen, and metals, that should be the bulk of the resources.

The IM-1 Odysseus lander has a payload of 100kg, and that ain't much at high launch and transport costs. Get the impression that NASA still sticks to the known SF idea of a base on the surface of the Moon - that won't happen due to the high radiation of 500 mSv/yr, forcing a rotation of the crews every two months to avoid severe health damages. Much better to establish such a base ca 10m deep inside of a lunar lava tube at constant -7°C and earth-like radiation and thus crews that rotate every six months to be effective teams. That's what the Chinese CNSA intends.

PACE mission suffered all sorts of problems long before Trump was in office. NASA had to cap the program overruns in 2014 as the program was struggling for years. You can see why it was attempted to be cancelled due to this so funds could be steered towards Artemis. However, NASA was able to finally get it going and I hope it does well.

One of the payloads of IM-1 is DOGE-1. This crypto community funded project, will be the first moon/space advertisement in history. As per Wikipedia; mission to launch a small (40 kg) satellite into lunar orbit to explore the Moon and display images and digital art on a small screen on lunar orbiter that will be broadcast back to Earth.[7] According to Samuel Reid, a miniature screen on the DOGE-1 satellite will display advertisements, images and logos, which will subsequently be broadcast to the Earth.[8]

Because 1: New companies who don’t have the experience are entering the business which increases the rate of failure until they learn. 2 Then have much, *much!* less funding than back in the 60s

Because the individual knowledge of everyone involved and the “organisational know-how” of how to actually run such a huge, complex project has been lost after such a long time. Much of the equipment is archaic, and many things cannot be bought “off the shelf” and have to be specially manufactured. Re-designing from scratch is cheaper and better. However, it takes years to build up that sort of expertise and NASA is going through the same problems it had in the early to mid-60’s. Rocket technology has not progressed much at all and although modern computers are far more sophisticated, they are far more vulnerable to particle radiation than those that used low density integrated circuits and magnetic core memory, both of which are extremely radiation hard. There is also not as much funding, no cold war imperative and no time limit placed on it by a president. We also live in much more risk averse times. All these issues are what has caused it to take so long this time around.

The fuel gage is a waste, all one needs to do is simply meter the fuel flow out, subtract that from the amount filled in the tank, and then you know how much is left. Duh!!! My 63 year old VW Bug has no gas gage, and i simply calculate the remaining range by how many miles i driven since the last fill up.

i don't think they meant habitable like earth i think they meant has a permanent human presence like a colony...once we start mining the moon and have production of resources up there is when the real space exploration will kick off not before then @@nightlightabcd

@@nightlightabcd I think he meant when there is a viable base of operations to become a permanent human presence there, even if the same people don't stay there for long. The moon will never be green, yes, but the modules built as waystations and science outposts will act as seeds for a future industrial settlements/orbiting stations for future expansion beyond. The most logical answer is a rotating staff for a given amount of months and return to earth as new staff head up. A human presence will be permanent, but the same humans won't stay for more than a few months.

That was not a HUGE flare ya'll.. shortwave radio bounces off the Ionosphere so many M & X class flares mess it up for very short periods. An impact of X20+ is a tech killer

Maybe NASA should declare a war on meteoroids and suggest the Chinese and Russians are working on asteroid manipulation technology. "We can't allow a meteoroid gap to open!". etc.
