I'm in behind this huge museum in Oregon. There's classic aircraft all over the place. I discover the very first F-101 Voodoo parked outside and right next to it is this very special NASA STA Space Shuttle Landing Trainer Aircraft. It is a Gulfstream II built by North American Aviation in 1974. It has been extensively modified to act like a space shuttle on its final descent to landing. The left side of the cockpit is exactly the same as the space shuttle. The right side is regular Gulfstream and is crewed by the instructor pilot. The astronauts fly their final training missions in their pressure suits. One astronaut did over 1400 descents. NASA built 4 of these trainers during the thirty year space shuttle program. This one is at the Evergreen Air & Space Museum in McMinnville Oregon. Inside they have the flight simulator for this plane sitting under a Lockheed SR-71.
