NASCAR All-Star Race coming to North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina

North Wilkesboro Speedway, which hosted NASCAR Cup Series races from 1949 to 1996, will host the 2023 NASCAR All-Star Race. Ever since its closure, fans have pleaded for high-end racing to return to the racetrack.
Plans were originally to use North Wilkesboro Speedway as a grassroots revival track using lower series and possibly squeeze in a NASCAR Truck Series event. However, the decision to host the NASCAR All-Star Race at the track moves the effort into high gear.
The NASCAR All-Star Race was held at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS) from 1987 to 2019 and was traditionally a week before the Coca-Cola 600 at CMS. The track also hosted the inaugural All-Star Race in 1985.
NASCAR moved the All-Star Race from Charlotte to Bristol Motor Speedway in 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. The race moved the following year to the Texas Motor Speedway to replace the race date taken from that track that was given to the Circuit of the Americas.
Now, the All-Star Race will return to North Carolina at a track that has not hosted a NASCAR race since 1996.

Dale almost cried talking about his experience at the track. He has almost single-handedly gotten old fans back into the sport and boosted the sports popularity because he knows how to connect with the blue collar fan that supports the sport. Love him

Who would have thought that a race as dead as the All Star race was could be saved by a track as dead as North Wilkesboro was. I will be there in person. And I can't wait.

Me and my wife showed up at North Wilkesboro unannounced in 2004 and the caretaker gave us a tour I'll never forget it I could literally feel the history.

I can't believe this I woke up this afternoon and heard the news I'm almost in tears I believe there is hope after all let's not forget our roots and we haven't ! Okay moving forward I suggest one side of the track be modern keep the other side historic there ya go. We have to build it's better to build on a clear and clean slate the back stretch between turns two and three will be your modern style and between turns 4 and 1 leave the front stretch the way it is with the exception of utilities being upgraded that would I think would pay tribute to the past and future!!! Thank you save the speedway thank you dirty moo thank you Mooresville Iredell guys and ladies and I will see "YALL"! you all soon

Hopefully they’ll get everything finished by then. Is there any way handicapped people can get to the bathroom and to their seats? How’s the weight of the current cars going to affect the old pavement with no repave?
