I think David Pearson is the best driver in Nascar history. Petty and Earnhardt were great but the Silver Fox was the best

Johnson and Gordon are not even close, Martin was 2nd best. Petty, B.Allison, Yarborough, and Tim Richmond, tied for 3rd, Earnhardt, Wallace, and Darrell Waltrip, tied for 4th. Though Sr #3 had illegal and better equipment. K Busch, Elliott, Gant, JJohnson, and Gordon are tied for 5th. Kulwicki, T Labonte, Stewart, D Jarrett, Kez, Rudd, Kenseth, Ku Busch, are all honorable mention.

One of the greatest quotes of all time concerning stock car racing was when they asked David which one was better him or Richard Petty and he said " Well Richard said that David Pearson was the best stock car driver he ever saw and I guess I will just have to agree with Richard". NASCAR did not know what it had with those two and NASCAR will never see two more like them.

History shows why Richard is the King, but he is too modest and humble to blow his own horn. That is just one more reason he remains the King.

@@catbreadfred Dave had plenty of good sponsors and money behind him. The Wood Brothers were not weak underfunded team back then, nor was Holman-Moody when he was driving the #17 Ford. Before those days he drove #6 Dodge, that was a well funded factory backed team as well.
@catbreadfred
@catbreadfred 6 ай бұрын
@@USA24541 I know David's career very well. I knew him and Cotton Owens. Of course those teams had sponsors .They, and Richard himself would laugh at the idea they were in the same league with money. David only ran the full schedule 3 times-and won the championship all 3 times.

@@edge2sword186 Richard wouldn't have been a 7 timer. Chances are if the Wood's ran all the races in the Pearson era(73-79), I bet they'd of won the title several times easy. If ya dig down into the stats, if Pearson didn't break, he was in the top 3 majority of his races 60s-70s. Incredible stats, but his races in non Owen's, Holman Moody and Woods' competitive equipment brought the numbers down. Head to head in equal equipment he'd be "The King " sorta. His personality was lacking. Not a people person, just a racer.
