Was in the same situation for Stenhouse. Went to Dega and then Daytona just to see him win in 2017, and then this year I was supposed to go to the Daytona 500, but then I couldn’t. I would’ve been to all of his wins though if that was the case.

I think this video is about the most fair I’ve ever seen anyone be to Austin Dillon and his career. Yes he’s definitely lucked into all his wins and been at the right place at the right time, but he still is a decent driver that deserves to be in the cup series shown by his resume in the lower ranks and shown with his 2020 playoff run.

How he won what he has isn’t really the point. The point is he doesn’t deliver much. He hasn’t just done less with more (and semi-bankrupted RCR), he’s done so little he’s irrelevant yet long carried himself as something worth a damn. He’ll never be worth a damn A few weeks back Kyle Busch was asked about the fact his presence hasn’t led to improvement by Dillon. Seriously there’s nothing in Dillon that can be improved

Small correction and I think you know this too. The 2018 All Star Race wasn't the first time NASCAR used the restrictor plates at a Non-superspeedway. 2000, New Hampshire. 2 drivers got killed and NASCAR had to do something. So that's what they did. They did SOMETHING

I still think Justin Haley is the closest thing we have to a Mickey Mouse. How many times did he win bc the top 2 cars wrecked each other. And let's not forget his cup 'win', where a premature one-to-go and an assist from Zeus gave him the checkered flag. I have nothing against him, but his successes seem to be mostly luck, while the times he actually runs well ending in bad luck.
@bw-leftturnracing7779

I think this whole “Mickey Mouse” stuff is unfair. Sports, and all of life, is heavily split of skill and luck. The X Factor is always something to watch out for. He earned those wins fair and square. Just because he wasn’t the perfect athlete doesn’t mean he’s a Mickey Mouse. You shouldn’t disparage a guy because he’s running his granddad’s legendary numbers and not winning like the past.

The 2018 Daytona 500 was ALSO 17 years to the day of Dale's death. It was also the last Nascar race I've been to in person. Went to Darlington after that, but not for the race because it had been raining and the track worker told everyone that the race had been postponed. Stupidly, it finished that night, so my dad and I were robbed out of the already-bought tickets. Still, that makes it ineligible for my last Nascar race, so to the 2018 Daytona 500 that award goes.

Putting all my bias for Dillon aside, i do think the Coke 400 & to a certain extent the Daytona 500 were Mickey Mouse wins, but the Coke 600 & Texas wins i do see as simply pit strategy. While i do believe he's the middest driver of the field, sure some of his wins aren't truly deserved but he definitely has what it takes and deserves his spot in the Cup Series. Hopefully he'll go out and be the class of the field again.

The 2018 Daytona 500 is imprinted in my head, as I went to a watchparty at a friend's house. I drew Austin Dillon as my "winning driver" and I was incredibly disappointed, especially at the start of the race. I honestly forgot I had him. Come 5 to go, and holy cow the 3 has a shot to win it. I haven't won much but I did win that day. Needless to say I bought that die-cast 2 weeks later at Vegas.

This has nothing to do with the video but i have no clue where else to discuss this, but I was watching the 2006 Summer Talledega race, and I noticed the 09 car was still running a Ford Taraus body, and they also did so in the summer Daytona race. Does anyone know why thats the case when they had the Ford Fusion in at the time?

@@cadenchristiansen3553 Ohhh so nascar allowed them to run the older bodies, I see. I was so confused when I seen a Taraus in 2006 when they were running the Fusion

I remember the little weasel. He said nascar was too fast, so they had to slow the cars down for him.

It's sad when his most "legitimate" win was a admittingly clever strategy play.

I don't hate Austin Dillon, but he definitely feels like wasted potential. He's shown at times he can run well and be fast, but never does so consistently.

I like Austin Dillon and ik ppl hate him but in 2022 that was the actual mickey win bc NASCAR can’t understand how the rain was coming. I saw the rain coming before they went green and yea he slammed into Cindric.
