Honestly, the only one I disagree with getting rid of is the playoffs. Rather than scrapping them entirely, I say they should revert to one of the old "Chase" formats. The 2011 version seems pretty damn good to me.

Information Nascar, it's all we ask for. This is a prime example of that. Outstanding. I loved that I was able to see side by side comparisons between the two cars. I loved that you explained why the cars were designed they way they were initially, and why that's allowed the mods to take place with out completely compromising the integrity of the clip.

I like these changes it's also going to make using the bumper a little more risky for the bumper user. The clip changes are really compelling, would love to see some on track testing, mostly to see if there is flex and if the cars will twist up over the course of a race. The cars to pass inspection or they don't get on the race track though might take a few tries. The thing with pre-race inspection is the tolerances are that car can be off a little bit and fix that you change something else or you don't get the car in exactly the same spot on the platform for the oss it can cause a failure even

Would have been interesting to see a current car go through the same simulation test and see if it had the same outcome, or similar to the 5/41 crash, prior to them testing the new design. Maybe they did that. I wouldn't feel safe with the changes if they did not baseline the test with current cars and compare angles and all that to the actual crash damage. But, what they are saying makes sense. Glad they have quickly worked to make it safer!

Really good job to figure this out and make the changes for teams pretty simple and doing it mid year vs off season. I’m sure there are specific measurements around those slots that someone will be checking each week. I also read somewhere (Jayski?) NASCAR is reimbursing teams the cost of the changes. Removing those braces makes the front lighter and less stiff which will probably affect the handling as at high load tracks things might flex more. So that’s something that remains to be determined by the teams. Now that the #1 item, safety, has been fixed lets work on making the competition better especially at short tracks. Give them back some horsepower and less aero and see who can drive them.
@Ethan-mn9gi
@Ethan-mn9gi Жыл бұрын
So with the updates do the teams have to buy all new cars or are the able to send the chassis they have that are still usable in to be updated?
@johnhaas2523
@johnhaas2523 Жыл бұрын
There's no reason to buy a new car and nascar is allowing teams to make the cuts and do the welding. Teams can if want take the front clip and bumper to techniques to do the work. Techniques will start building new front clips and bumper with the changes after they get done with modifying any clips they have that need done so if teams need new front clips they don't have to do anything

I’m not a Nascar boot licker but I am a fan , as a former IMSA and IndyCar (CART) race engineer this car is still dangerous. This car is basically an IMSA road race car with removable front and rear clips to save the teams money but it still is not dissipating energy (AKA parts not coming off or getting crushed) and the driver in the cage is receiving the energy transfer

@Theel25 Жыл бұрын
@@NathanM4A1 You never hit head on at 150 MPH bro. If you did any car would disintegrate. 35 MPH is about the most a car has forward movement when it spins. Doing "a lot of the work in simulation" was the problem to begin with. Any simulation is only as good as the data entered in. U didn't need a master's from MIT to see how much more "stiff" this car is. Crashes that would have 2 years ago ended on the roll back are now being driven to the pit for new tires. Yet the energy is the same and must still go somewhere, if the cars not absorbing it the seat and driver are. Regardless this is a great move going forward, it just seems that doing more than one or two actual crash tests would've highlighted the problem before a career was ended anf drivers missing races due to concussion symptoms that could likely shorten their careers.
