UPDATE: That $600 price tag is supposedly the starting price with lower specs. We have no official pricing details from ASUS yet.

Have you tried linux on this? I feel like that would be the best usecase for it. I am trying out the surface go 3 right now with the pentium gold 6500y and for me the performance is ok, its not really that great but for what it is its perfect, I am using this as a secondary device for browsing, media consumption, communication and such, along side my main highend gaming laptop. interestingly overall the pentium gold on paper isnt that great compared to the N6000, the 6500y only has 2c/4t and is based on the old 14nm process, also my unit has 4gb of lpddr3 ram, so is overall worse than the Slate atleast on paper, so im wondering why most reviews are complaining about the performance of the slate.

Thanks a bunch and thanks for watching! Formatting to Windows 10 does feel more refined, probably due to Windows 10 being more matured. However, installation of drivers are a little quirky since we need to install some Intel drivers to make sure the CPU can boost beyond 400MHz.

Will it make a difference if you do a clean install of windows 10 (which also removes any Asus bloatware)? The kind of task I want to do on that tablet requires 0.9ghz (cpu) and 4gb memory only. That's with several browser windows open. But those specs are from my i5 laptop (w/ 4 cores, base spd 2.5ghz, 8gb ram) when I check on task manager. I wonder if I'll still be able to do that on the asus slate tablet.

Hi I'm thinking of buying this pc.. I'm a computer science student I wouldn't use it as my main pc (I use a mac pro 16 for programming and at home I use windows for gaming) I would mainly use it to watch videos on youtube and in the professional field to answer email writing and reading word files, powerpoint etc. The truth is that I had taken a z fold 4 which disappointed me and so I prefer to take a tablet and a smartphone separately and I was thinking rather than taking an android tablet to take windows which will it certainly allows you to do more things.. I would use it 90% as a tablet and 10% with the keyboard as a PC.. but above all I see in the comments that you say that this PC is really very slow.. is it really as slow as you say? should I get an android tablet and settle for the android versions of office? I had also thought about buying a surface pro 8 (the price is not a problem) but the fact that I would use it most of the time to watch videos and the 3:2 aspect ratio of the surface is not very suitable for watching content made me did pull back from the purchase, what do you recommend? Thank you
@NasiLemakTech
@NasiLemakTech 10 ай бұрын
Now this is an interestingly tough question. I can understand why you don't want to use the Z Fold 4 for that purpose - and I don't use that phone the same way I use an Android tablet, honestly. If Android tablet is in your mind already, then I'll have to highlight this to you - the Office suite of apps don't work the same way on Windows when compared to PCs or Macs. But, you'll get great battery life from a tablet compared to a laptop. Ultimately depends on what compromises you want to make, I think. I personally think that I'll go for a laptop. And yes, this ASUS Vivobook 13 Slate OLED is really slow. Not sure how's the compatibility for ChromeOS now but it was rather buggy when I used it a while back.

Ouch. That's the highest end? I found Amazon US is at around $750 USD though

Love the screen and form factor, the hardware (Intel Pentium CPU), plus Windows is what makes it a sluggish device. If I were to buy it I would probably wipe Windows and install Linux on it!

That is what I did too! Unfortunately, the results are... not up to par since the drivers are a little iffy at the moment.

@@NasiLemakTech Do you mind if I ask, what distro of Linux did you install?

@@theworkoutgeek Too many! I tried Elementary, Feren, Mint, Garuda Dragonized, and a whole lot more that I can't remember. The issue I have is Google Chrome not having hardware decoding option and KZfaq lags beyond belief. I tried forcing on Chrome flags but to no avail.

@@NasiLemakTech Thanks for the reply. I have an Asus VivoBook Flip 14 with an Intel Core i3 and I have MX Linux running on it via USB 3.0 drive and I wiped Windows 10 and installed Makulu Linux on it and it's running great. I can even use the desktop effects like wobbly windows and other compiz like effects and it runs flawlessly. And yes I have Google Chrome working on the laptop with multiple windows and still runs fast. I guess the Intel Pentium chipset inside the VivoBook 13 Slate OLED is not so good.

@@theworkoutgeek Thanks for sharing the information too! I think either this chip is just not good or still needs optimization. Either way, it's placed in the storage for now until Linux or Chrome OS has better support for it. Using Windows on this device is torture.
