We have a ng insertion checkoff coming up and they're only giving us 2 hours of lab for the entire class to practice before the checkoff. So glad KZfaq exists to see videos because I feel like the class is so fast paced that it's like we're on our own.

It becomes a nasoduodenal or nasojejunal tube instead of a nasogastric tube

@blindbrad4719 Yes, the metal/guide wire provides the stiffness and enables the tube to go in easily.

Lidocaine is a topical analgesic. No you can’t. Just regular lube like ky jelly

We use lidocaine spray on the back of the throat which is where most patients complain of pain.

The nose, mouth and gut are not sterile. So the process does not need to be. Unlike a urine catheter insertion, the blander is a sterile environment.

why do we check the pH after insertion NGT? Anyone can explain me?

To ensure its in the right place (the stomach). The stomach is acidic. So, if you get an acidic pH range, you can be sure the tubing is in the stomach.
