I met her the year before this, when I was only eight years old. She was wonderful, charming and incredibly sharp. It was at a breakfast event and she had me at her table. We shared some strawberries and handled my Gilligan's Island questions with such patience. I asked for her autograph on a note card; she wrote a lengthy inscription and she had the most beautiful handwriting.

Natalie was 88 years of age, when this interview was filmed. She passed away only 2 years later, in 1991.

How can a person who is nearly 90 be so crystal clear in mind and demeanor? Astonishing. What an inspiration for successful aging....

Can't believe how sharp she is at her age here. According to Wikipedia she could be 88 or 89. Such a lady, gracious and mannerly.

I was very pleased to learn that Natalie was able to give suggestions to Sherwood Schwartz about how Mrs. Howell should act and dress. Not every actor is allowed to do that. I also remember hearing that Natalie and Dawn Wells (Mary Ann Summers) were very close in real life. Dawn was like the daughter Natalie never had.

What a great interview, for two reasons - that interviewer certainly has to be Martin Short's inspiration for Jiminy Glick, the they're identical. hilarious to watch, I had no idea. And Natalie Shafer is such an elegant, classic Hollywood character. I could listen to her for hours and never get bored. What a delight. So glad KZfaq gave me this suggestion, for some bizarre reason.

The funny thing was not so much that skip called Bob John but that Natalie never corrected him, ..she was so classy that she didnt want to make him feel like he goofed..lol

the interviewer is Skip E. Lowe who was a Los Angeles Cable tv interviewer who tried to specialize in interviewing old Hollywood. Lowe promoted himself as "the boy with Betty Grable legs." Yes, he was insufferable. But he enjoyed his moment while the rest of us had to put up with him. He did interview great people, like Natalie Schafer. I saw him once slinking down the street. Yet, for some reason, people liked him. Obviously, he had something about him which is not readily apparent on camera. I think he imagined himself as an alternative to Merv Griffin.

If the date given is correct, she would have been 88 or 89 here! Absolutely amazing!!!

Such a lady she was...! I'm so stunned that she never was asked to appear on Dynasty? Falcon Crest? She would have fit in just perfectly as Joan Collins mother or aunt..Oh well!

“John Denver” Skip E misidentified Bob Denver twice. Luckily for him, Ms Natalie just rolled with it ignoring his gaffes. She was such a professional! 👏🏼👏🏼
