Imagine a single franchise having arguably the greatest running back AND the greatest wide receiver at different times and wasting BOTH of their talents and careers. Both of them humble and just incredibly gifted.
@IanNubbit4 жыл бұрын
To be fair, we made playoffs both times
@nathanbranson91494 жыл бұрын
It's not like the Lions intentionally wasted their talent. The Lions did the best they could. It's just that teams like the 49ers, Cowboys, Packers and Patriots were the dominant teams in the last 25 years. Should the Lions feel guilty because they weren't a dynasty?
@seanentrikin92634 жыл бұрын
@@nathanbranson9149 well, they failed to get enough talent around both Barry and Megatron to be playoff competitive. So yes, they should feel ashamed that they didn't do their jobs very well. Best running back I've ever seen and they surrounded him with very little. One of the best WR's I've ever seen and they surrounded him with even less. Their talents were wasted on mostly bad teams.
@seanhall29324 жыл бұрын
Kind of the same thing with the Giants that had Odell traded him should have cut Eli Manning and now it’s just Saquon Barkley and he’s probably gonna have the same type of career as Barry Sanders did great stats possible playoff game or 2 and retire because he can’t do it alone
@nathanbranson91494 жыл бұрын
@@seanentrikin9263 I'll agree with you that Barry Sanders and Megatron were both incredibly humble people. They are very likeable. I love Barry Sanders whole deal; attitude, playing style. But I don't think you or I or anybody else commenting on this KZfaq all would be able to run the 1990's Lions any better than how they ran the team. We are just a bunch of fans. The people running the franchise in the 1990's were smart enough to draft Herman Moore and get two Pro Bowl offensive lineman. They weren't incompetent. But they were smarter than any of us armchair nostalgic GM's who sit back and think we could run a team better. As if we could have found a better QB than Scott Mitchell.......

@Kyle Snyder - Nate clearly says this was a testing day at minicamp. It wasn't his every day workout. He did just enough to let everyone know that he was the best, but didn't feel the need to completely embarrass the rest of the receivers. If he could hammer out 20 reps at 225, I would be willing to bet that he was lifting much heavier during normal workouts.

@kcrossover42674 жыл бұрын
j mak why would I be tripping. They are both huge, have a gigantic catching radius, they run like gazelles (julio ran a 4.3 with a broken foot), they have great hands, put up the numbers, and most importantly you will never hear of them having issues off the field. That's the definition of not being a diva and just going out to do what they pay you millions for and excelling at a high level.. I think you're the one that's tripping
@kcrossover42674 жыл бұрын
j mak I don't see how it's disrespectful at all since they share similar physical attributes and julio jones was faster to get to 10,000 yards by almost a full season, they have a similar yards per reception (15.9 vs 15.4), julio has more receiving yards per game (96.7 vs 86.1) I'm not gonna go into playoff numbers because obviously julio is gonna have the better stats because he's been more fortunate in having a better team than Calvin so he's played a lot more games in the playoffs than Calvin but the only thing Calvin leads julio is in receptions, td's, and yards I don't remember by how much exactly but that's really only because he's played like 2 more seasons than Julio but julio will pass him soon. I think it's more than fair to label julio the second coming of Megatron. I do however feel Megatron was more dominant and had more peak ability. Basically Megatron is like randy moss and julio is like a younger Jerry Rice. Moss was the better receiver but rice was the better overall WR.

@aporchmonkey4 жыл бұрын
@@absolutelysobeast I'm not, I'm just saying CJ was better. Moss didn't even run a full route tree, sure the guy was dominant and insanely athletic but he is no Calvin. Sorry man, we just have to agree to disagree. Not to mention the fact Randy had bad years and wasn't always considered the best while playing and without checking I'm not sure he ever had a good year without having a solid running mate. Calvin was always the best or one of the best every year he played and never had a good number two opposite him. Moss played with guys like CC and Welker while CJ played with, uhhh, Nate Burleson.....? Two of his three years in New England he didn't even lead the team in receptions or yards, I can guarantee you CJ would have led their team in both categories all three of those seasons. Not to mention he was also grabbing balls from Daunte and Tom while CJ spent most of his years with Matt Stafford (whom I love as a player but he is neither of those two in talent) and he still had two seasons with more yards than Randys career high while playing only half of the years, if that, that Randy did. He also has the single greatest season of any receiver in the history of the league while being double teamed and bracketed on literally every single play.1964 yards is an insane number when the next highest on your team is a TE with 500 something. An entire season of straight balling when the other team is on you non stop knowing you're getting the ball and he still puts up the greatest season ever.

It's not that he didn't want to embarrass everyone. As the greatest reciever in the world, what would he gain to benefit by exceeding everyone's already lofty expectations of him? If the standard jump is 40" he'll give you 44. If the expected bench press is 15 he'll give you 20 then 'tap out'. What he's doing is an astute game theory technique; never appear too perfect. It breeds silent enemies and natural jealousy/envy. He did just enough to lead by example and remind everyone who he is while staying in character
@dmendez773 жыл бұрын
Interesting viewpoint. Not sure if what you’re saying is the case, but I do agree that tapping out early adds to his legend. For all we know his limit was 22, but in the minds of his peers there’s no ceiling to how much he could’ve listed. Boss move!

There were quite a few years where he just bit the bullet and stayed a pro on and off the field. I'm a Giants fan and watched Odell get shipped off. I've seen Odell play in person at about 15 games. I was there for "The Catch" against the Cowboys and there fof the "Josh Norman Game". I saw just how good he is and how great he can be, but also saw his immaturity first hand.
