NATE Unveils 100% Tie-Off Safety Video
Release is Second in Climber Connection Campaign Video Series
(Watertown, SD) - The National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE) today released a 100% Tie-Off Safety Video as part of the Association’s 2016 Climber Connection campaign. The video was released by the Association in advance of next week’s NATE UNITE 2016 Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The video highlights practical 100% Tie-Off safety tips for industry workers to follow to ensure that they are adhering to the standards and compliance directives that govern fall protection. The video includes aerial views of tower climbers working on a communications tower and a testimonial of a tower climber discussing safe 100% Tie-Off practices and promoting a zero tolerance policy in regards to the 100% Tie-Off law.
“"Not only is 100% Tie-Off the law, but we all have families to go home to at the end of the day,” stated Nick Spiker from Peak Communications. “Thankfully, I've never fallen into my gear, but I always, always clip off. 100% Tie Off is worth every second. It only takes once,” added Spiker, who has been an active tower climber for 14 years."

This video should be watched as a mandatory protocol for all tower companies, especially during Probationary, and Orientation periods!!!.

I really hate to see all of the people who whine about having to tie off when climbing. It may be a little inconvenient, but worth the trouble.

Same, I've worked climbing wind turbines and some people just don't see it happening to them.

if people have to climb these things, why don't they construct them to make them more climbable ..with some kind of ladder built in

Because at hours like this are very dangerous no matter what kind of ladder you have. Just like an anything in life something that's dangerous needs to be approached with caution, intelligence, Common Sense, awareness, and ultimately Safety First! Because if you can't be safe you can't do your job! I'm literally standing under a 150 radio tower, these things are massive. (Here for work obviously).

Not being a hater but your lanyard side bite on the tower is not as strong as being on a strap on straight

Yes, however, some people trust their lanyards more than a tower member because if the member breaks, you’re screwed.
