I think it's beautiful how one of their earliest songs has a chorus that says "she's not just another face" and the last song they ever released on an album has a chorus that says "I'm not just another face." It seems like over the years he grew to find his own worth. I fucking love modern baseball.

I looooove real friends but i do get what you mean i dont think theyre trying to make sadness an aesthetic but more like mainstream people found their music when rap was making sad an aesthetic and the mainstream people where like “woah this is so cool this is what actual sad people listen to” and then kinda just used real friends to look cool. Its kinda the same thing that happened to Pink Floyd, people think theyre cool for listening to music like ours so they buy shirts and listen to the most popular songs they have. Yes most of real friends songs are sad and stuff but i feel like its more to help people who are going through things. To give people someone to relate to, to have someone express their thoughts when we cant, and to teach us how to cope. Tho most of their songs are sad they do also sing ab forgetting, moving on, accepting you for you.

Modern baseball got me through a really dark place in my life. I started listening to them in 2013 after my grandfather passed away from cancer. I would just feel like I had no one who understood what I was going through and that I was alone even though I had people who cared for me. I was suicidal but hid it well. I feel like my dad knew something was up bc he’d hear me listening to my emo music and ask me if I was ok and then always tell me he wouldn’t know what would happen if he lost me. Those moments and the lyrics of Jake and Brendan helped me get through it. I still have bad days, weeks and months, but I put on some pop punk and emo indie and remember I’m not alone.

id like to here you’re take on this, but I believe that he wrote Hiding after Brendan. the lines “my straight line shooter” and “amass the coins to displace debt to you” make me think this way. Brendan was in a place that jake absolutely didn’t understand, stealing funds from the band to fuel his addiction, really really low. Listening to the drop, it sounds like a conversation between him and Brendan more than anything, calling about his future, wanting to repair everything. “With floral sutures” are you hiding or have I abandoned you? let me LEARN HERE, I AM IN PURSUIT OF ALL I CAN UNDO. idk man, i think its really about him. I really want to hear you’re take on this!!!let me know what you think please!!!!!
