@@drumbum3.142 OK that’s the scene I thought you meant (she does go into rigor mortis fast huh?). To premise my general feelings, this entire movie has nightmare logic, and to that end, nothing to me really stood out as not fitting in. Here are some random thoughts on the scene! It fits his character. He’s a virgin, and that fact has been hammered down on us throughout the film (the play sequence, the cruise sequence, everything with him as a child). Him losing his virginity to someone in his mother’s bed on the night of her funeral I feel is a culmination of his journey. He is attempting to cut the connection to being only his mother’s son, and attempting to transition into being an independent adult (SIDE BAR, there were some MAD Oedipus vibes in this film. He indirectly kills his father via his conception. His mother laying in bed with him as a child. Fucking Parker Posey in his mother's bed). But of course here comes one of the major themes of the film: guilt. Whether or not his mother is really there, she’s a symbol of the guilt that he feels constantly (in part due to never living up to her insane expectations). The entire film is him reacting to the things happening around him to his detriment; isn’t it interesting that one of the first real decisions he makes is INSTANTLY cut short by his mothers sudden re-appearance? I didn’t bother thinking of anything in this film in terms of reality VS delusion. We never leave the heightened state of reality the movie takes place in. I took it in more like an expressionist painting. Whether or not Beau is actually guilty, he feels guilty, and that feeling just washes over you throughout the movie. For me, this scene shows that Beau is truly doomed. He can try to escape his mother, he can try to grow, but that nagging guilt will always be there. He’s a broken person, and as we know the guilt WILL take him.

@@drumbum3.142 Beau thought he had a Cardiac problem that will cause him to die after an orgasm, turns out he didn't but the woman he was sleeping with did. I had the great pleasure of seeing Nathan Lane on Broadway in "It's Only A Play". The whole cast was wonderful. Lane's long-time working relationship with Matthew Broderick was evident when they were alone on stage & started cracking each other up so badly that they had to turn away from each other. The entire audience was laughing hysterically. It was a good 5 minutes before they could get it together enough to continue on. I Absolutely Loved It! TYSVM
