Here’s a darker song I wrote about propaganda and war. I’ve been so nervous about this one. It’s honestly been one of the most painful songs I've worked on. Thinking through history about so many atrocities. I hate war. I hate loss. I know it's often necessary and to those who've served, I could not be more grateful for your courage. Your protection. I didn't want to share this one. It seemed like it might be offensive/divisive/just be too painful for so many people. But something in me felt like I should. So here it is. Love you all so much. Taking the time to listen to my work means more than you could ever know.

Lyrics:
They told stories of legends and old
Ever since I was young
Of protectors our saviors our heroes
That’s who I’ll become said
Give your heart
And your strength
To the cause
Never break
You can be like them to
Take your gun
And your flag
Hold it strong
Take their land
We can show them the truth
What is it for?
Endless war
Just toil away
To spread our plague
Keep devastating
All in vein
What’s it for?
So they sent us away on their mission
Thinking heroes we’ll be
Through the smoke saw a man looked suspicious
So I put him to sleep
How it woke me up
From this daze
Killed a man
He had a name
For what sake I don’t know
Constantly
It’s in my head
The memory
It never left
Can’t escape it won’t go
What is it for?
Endless war
Just toil away
To spread our plague
Keep devastating
All in vein
What’s it for?
I don’t want to fight no more
Watch my brothers die no more
Everything feel’s so out of place
I don’t wanna cry no more
See another life get torn
Tell me what’s the point to this pain
I don’t wanna lie no more
Just don’t know what’s right no more
Gotta be a different way
I just can’t stay quiet no more
Been twisting with my mind since birth
It’s looking like we’re all being played
What is it for?
Endless war
Just toil away
To spread our plague
Keep devastating
All in vein
What’s it for?

Speaking as a veteran I can't imagine a better way to put this. I'm currently living in a home for damaged veterans we as a group have seen so much been through the wringer so many times. In war one loses who they are, pointless and unblinking we stand for those we love even if they don't recognize the lose we face. Thank you for this song it gives me such strength to know we're not the only ones who recognize these pointless wars.

Something I once read that has always stuck with me is "Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable." I think about that a lot. I'm glad you chose to share this song because as usual, you always put your heart and soul into the music and lyrics. Your songs always shake me to my core, and I'm glad I got to discover this channel. Best wishes and keep up the good work!

War is interesting in a dark way: it’s shaped human history so much, but caused so much pain in the process. It’s easy to forget with films and books that every soldier is someone’s family member or friend. Every combatant has their own name, life, and stories.

Your songs always give me chills. From the way you sing, the strumming of the guitar and the passion of the drums I hear every single emotion and feeling put into the songs you make. There are very few artists out there that I hear anymore that provide that level of passion and care into their work and you sir are absolutely phenomenal. As a little side story I used to play in my churches worship team and the team consisted of my 2 brothers, me and my mom. I since moved far away and can't play with them anymore and your music gives me a little piece of how I would feel when I would play with my family. Thanks for making music man I hope you continue to do more and touch other peoples lives like you do mine.

Hi, Nathan! I'm listening to this song and trying not to cry. I have my own story. Not that painful and horrifyng as the million stories of people in my country (hello from Ukraine🇺🇦). My brother, my uncle, my classmates, thousands, millions are fighting for our freedom, European freedom, my freedom. I can't stop thinking, worrying about them, I already lost many people. And that's because of only ONE country with imperialism and propaganda inside their heads. I just want my country won this horrible war. Thank you for your masterpieces, they make me happy. oftentimes in war, no one measures the "true cost" in battle, from the soldiers on both sides of the conflict, to the civilians caught in the middle, and that true cost is higher than anyone can measure. so when, and if a conflict when all said and done is found based on a lie or for "selfish reasons", those who paid that cost can never look at another conflict without suspicion and disgust. war should be a very, very last option, and only to protect those things worth protecting. great song, you rocked it!

My entire family is a huge military family- my grandad refuses to tell anyone abt his service and the one time he tried to open up to me- he started sobbing. My great uncle served in WW2 and when he got back he never married or had kids- when asked why he said “no woman would love me, after what I did, I don’t deserve that.” I have ptsd from an unrelated incident but bc of that, a lot of my dads military buddies trust me and let me in their inner circle bc we may have suffered different traumas- but the emotional outcome was the same. The stories they’ve told me are nothing short of horrifying. One can’t even eat meat and when his wife cooks he has to leave the house altogether and eat outside or else he starts shaking and vomiting. I’m so grateful for them and the sacrifices they made, but no one should have to suffer like that

Oh I can feel the emotion in this one. War is truly a terrible thing. I think we can definitely all share the feeling and just feel like "what is it for?" I can feel the pain through your voice Nathan. I'm really sorry for anyone that has gone through war, it truly is something horrible that only leaves pain, because no one ever wins. Thanks again man for making deep and touching music. This might be a bit darker but stills brings a message that can touch our souls. Never be afraid to share what you think needs to be shared. You bring a message of peace in so much chaos. We won't fight darkness with darkness and win. Your music is like a light in the fog, it always touches my heart and keeps me fighting. We have wars outside and wars inside. And it's very painful at times, but we are fighting for greater things. God bless you!

Oh Nathan.. you don't have to be nervous about giving out artistical creations. They are a representation of what we are, what we experienced, and not only us, that can even be the whole world... but anyway, those remains what they are, beautifull operas made to express feelings, immaginary or even storical things.. keep goin, and be proud, you have another beautifull and very expressive piece of art.

You choose very hard theme for this song. Especially at this time. I wake up every day with one thought "is everything okay with my family and my friends?". War is terrible, and the people who start it cannot be forgiven. This time I don't say "Thanks", I'm not sure that listening this song one more time. It's hurt Inspiration to you, waiting for your next song

"For years we have waged this endless war, no longer with no end in sight. It started with an assassination, but now there is no reason left in this carnage. All day artillery makes men go mad as men charge across no mans land to push the line by mere meters. Back home the people starve, while those behind the line suffer under enemy occupation. They said we would be home by Christmas, but three have already passed..."

Oooh, this is so good! You paint a wonderful story Nathan. I just love all these tales that you tell and the imagery that it inspires for me. During the propaganda part I like to imagine a sinister, plastic looking senator with a large smile speaking at a rally. As a creative person, I have to thank you for inspiring me like this on a regular basis. I'm honestly really grateful. 😊 Edit: I also love the way you sing "toil," "spread," and "devastating!" You can just feel the pain in your voice!

I had this one idea for a story set in the Zelda universe but with a more modern or even futuristic time-period but I didn't know what I wanted the story to be about until I heard this song the idea goes like this The King knows war is coming, so he orders his black ops unit, the Sheka, to go in search for the next hero; a figure who has repeatedly shown themselves throughout history. Eventually when they do find him, only a baby at the time, the Sheka abduct him bringing him back to the castle. They raise & train him to be the perfect solder. So, the story is about Link learning to be more human & slowly beginning to resent what the King did to him.

I enlisted in late 2017. After some time in the fleet I got board and started researching some of the heroes they told us to remember and basically worship in boot camp. To anyone who is thinking of enlisting do some research. Theirs a book written by Smedley Butler called war is a racket. The times have changed but the concepts rarely do. I believe the military has a lot to offer for those in need but the reality is that the organization in its current state is one of ignorance. Ignorance from the leadership on down. The bottom feeders will always suffer for it. Vet TV has a great documentary on the topic and I highly recommend it.
