I have the same exact car and this car is the easiest car to work with all you have to do is watch KZfaq videos to get familiar with it so you can know the things that can go wrong and that need maintenance also where it can leak oil proper routine maintenance is fairly easy the only challenge I see that eventually I will have to put a new timing belt replace the cam seal crankshaft seal oil pump housing gasket water pump replacement and it might take me the whole day but I'm pretty sure I can do it. But right now is not leaking any oil or any fluid just by changing the oil every 3or 4months with a good full synthetic like valvoline or pennzoil or even Mobil you're good to go flush the cooling system and put Toyota red coolant or a brand that compatible with Toyota red drain the transmission fluid about 3 times and put a new filter . And just used Toyota oil filters they're the best for this car also replace the power steering fluid with new one and you're brake fluid too remove the idle air control valve and clean it clean the throttle intake while you're there make sure you're only using ngk or denso spark plugs if you see any oil in the spark plugs replace the tube seals is very easy and keep an eye on the egr valve is easy to clean and so is the egr valve modulator my car runs perfect and still looks new inside and out zero problems and zero leaks just don't be lazy you got an android phone got KZfaq and Google you can fix it yourself. There's also a round plug by the valve cover on the right side close to the ignition coils that tends to leak oil pretty bad is so easy to fix I fixed mine that's why I have no leaks with the proper maintenance this car will last me another 20 years the key is not to neglect the maintenance. If you do this you won't have to worry about the car having misfires or running rough unless you forget to put back a vacuum hose but that's very easy to find just go back and check all the hoses that you disconnected when you were working on it and you'll see it also this car is not a Honda civic no offense I used to love hondas but they have misfires for any little thing you have to baby them a lot the Camry can take anything will not let you down I bet people that have problems with them is because they totally neglect them.

Ignition coil: always get Denso brand and sparks plug: NGK and it must said (MADE IN JAPAN) only. I hope this car run last longer since it’s a excellent great condition.

I had same issue and I thought it was my egr valve, but it was misfiring because my spark plugs and spark plug wires were worn out, so check those, hopefully that helps

I just recently got a slew of engine problems when I poured gas in from a gas can. I suspect it had debris and possibly two cycle oil residue in the can. I've been trying to run chem tool and stp injector cleaner. I already replaced air filter, a vacuum line, spark plugs and cleaned IAC valve. It's still kicking, stalling itself to death and smelling weird at the tail pipe. I hope this car isn't ruined, it seems to be getting stronger as more clean gas runs through it. I've had my Camry largely problem free for 10 years until this past week.

The thing is that if there is an exhaust leak in between the two o2 sensors it will pop up the same code. And if you have ever owned a Camry? They tend to go through flex pipes. I'm on my 5th Camry. And she's my baby. It's a 1994 2 door with 280,000 miles.

Same with mine, but it was 5 shops. Including the dealership. First, he dealership inspected the used camry I’d gotten from an elderly aunt with 98k miles on it. Called it a “gem”. Next day, check engine light was on, and they wanted another $100 to find out why. Damn that. Took it somewhere else. They did a tune up for $600, and FORGOT to put fluids back in. I barely caught it after I left. They didn’t feel they owed me anything.... Then, 3 more caused more damage than they fixed, including replacing rotors, drums, pads and shoes.... but “forgot” to put the pads in, requiring new...everything, basically. Theyd somehow pulled it around, and when I went it to get in the sound from under my car was like the demons of hell. They refused to do anything, and left me there to sleep the night, I guess. Every employee drive right by me waving and hollering. And called the cops after they were gone. That was a helluva night, but towed it elsewhere for repair. That new shop also replaced he Front axels...that FELL OUT 2 blocks away. Then the NEXT shop had a $800 bill for parts and labor (but if been waiting IN THE CAR. I hadn’t left!) while no one had been within 30 feet of the car. Well, until 3 employees backed me into a corner and demanded $800 or they’d call the cops on me and take the car. I pointed first at the dash cam with my k-bar, then at the combat veteran tag. They withdrew, and I spent 4 nights WitH aflashlight between my teeth AND KZfaq replacing the top of the motor and the ignition and fuel systems. D Finally, dealership had at it...for a MONTH! Tried returning it twice worse than they got it (dash warning lights, only up to 3rd gear, smokes comming from vents) before finally giving up and saying they didn’t have a clue. But GUESSED I needed a new cat... warned I might not make it home. But I did, and over three days found the VSV hanging from its electrical connector and hoses loose, no air filter, snipped wire inside the wire loom leading to the charcoal canister, and tons of other junk. It’s almost back running, but I could have bought 2 camrys by now. Idle still rough after slight improvement with an air temp sensor...hoping for a solution. And keep in mind, I got this gifted car because OTHER shops, and the Ford dealership, ruined my mint condition ranger in 6 months to the tune of about $7000 and a new motor. It’s on blocks behind the house and doesn’t even run now. I don’t even think they put the vacuum lines back in at all! I need a pistol to even some scores, I think. But Don’t EVER take your car to a shop in Mobile, AL. Not unless you want to learn how to work on your own car. You’ll have no other choice. Been here 1 year, and can honestly say as a well-travelled yankee.... here reside the dumbest people on earth.

Ecm traction control computer for sure if plugs and catalytic converter ok n fuel pressure okay.

Hello, I have a 2000 camry 2.2l witk 96k miles with high postive long term fuel trim at 20% at idle, short term flucuates between potisve and negative 5% , but at higher rpm the long term fuel trim drops to 5%, but I cannot find a vaccum leak visibly, would a exhaust manifold or intake manifold leak would cuase this? Or would a bad fuel injector cause this? I also have do NOT have check engine light on. Also I've replaced both 02 sensors, pcv and valvet cover gasket, cleaned throttle body, swapped spark plugs. New fuel pump denso, fuel filter .

I have a 98 Camry with 5F-SE engine. Speaking of incompetent service techs, I went to check valve clearance because it was getting poor mileage and wasn't idling right. I found that someone had taken out the exhaust cam without putting in the service bolt, which unloaded the spring on the cam pulley, then putting it back together without reloading the spring. Once i assembled the cam correctly, it ran much better, going from about 22mpg to 28 or so and idling smoothly. Basically, the valve timing was off due to the cam not installed correctly.

so bottom line: u changed the ignition coils to fix the issue? just wanna make sure i didn't miss anything else

I have the 2000 model with the same engine and problem with idle and acceleration. Did wires, plugs and Tue seals due to oil leak. Then got a code for a couple evaporate codes. Checked the throttle body and that had a tear in it. Also changed the throttle body sensor and both o2 sensors. The downstream o2's wire is under the driver seat (13mm bolt) All that and it throws a C0700 code which is a chassis code. SMH. Still has low idle.

I had an exhaust leak fixed on mine & now it's almost undriveable. So far I've done plugs, wires, EGR, PCV & ABS. It's fine at idle & low throttle, but starts pulsing about 1x per second on acceleration or grades as if I'm pumping the gas pedal. Severe loss of power, can't even maintain 40mph on a slight grade.

Mine has 97 k on it and ran fine up to 8 months ago. Now it cuts off at the light when stopped and runs fine when you on the highway but does not pick up as it should. I replaced the fuel pump, the ECU, all the relays and sensors, the IAC valve , new power blocks, new oxygen sensors, EKG vaccum and valve, new spark plugs, and new valves. I might put new spark plug wires in but thats it i am done. Lets say close to $1500 and it still does this crazy rpm jumping up and down. It cuts off at the red lights and at this point i am done. Thank goodness i did not sell my 2009 civic coupe and it just needed mounts and struts. I parked the camry and driving the honda now. If i junk the camry i loose. I am hoping to sell it for $1000, but i settle for $800. . I loved this camry it was spacious and has a quick pickup and super fuel efficent, but i have to be practical and do the right thing and stop pouring $$$$$ into it.

That Camry has been in an accident or Something happened to the hood. It should have the piston shocks Or whatever they're called holding it up. That Camry is literally one of the most reliable 4 cylinder cars ever built provided the owner doesn't skip oil changes. They have an unfair reputation for engine oil sludge build-up but that is always due to the owner not changing the oil frequently enough. My 21 year old Camry has a 1/2 million miles almost and my mechanic jokes that the oil comes out cleaner then it went in. I use a good quality Castrol GTX high mileage and upgraded oil filter Every 5K no exceptions and my engine doesn't leak or burn a drop of oil between changes. No one has ever heard that they blew their engine because they change their oil to frequently it's always the opposit. I learned when I was younger that oil is teep but engines are expensive.

I just drove home from work and noticed a drop in power and spurting, not much going on when I hit the gas harder. Another thing was it stunk to high heaven in the car like sulfur pretty bad, then went away. The cats weren't red (clogged cat) and it has new plugs and air filter. It's a 99 Camry, with 120k. What I did was unplug a vacuum hose at the top of the throttle body and now it has normal power. There is also a check engine light the code is for the neutral safety switch. Guess I should change the neutral safety switch right?

How do you prevent it to arc on the wires?

Sum similar happened 93 4cyl but it completely shut off and wouldn't get spark still none after another replacement (the one replaced was 2 weeks old)

Toyota 2.2 L has outstanding reputation. I have a Saturn 1.9L. With 200k. It's only gave me a few minor problems in the last 100k. I'm just trying to compare Toyota 2.2L to a Saturn 1.9L. Anyone has a comment please share.

My camry is a living dead. She has been running awesome and then suddenly misfires and stalls at traffic lights. Me and my mechanic we have checked every possible sensor and replaced with the ones from another camry. TPS, ICV, MAF, ECU, checked compression, changed distributor cap, spark plugs and cables, and it still doing this!!! And yes, fuel pump works. We are lost 😅😅

Had same problem but put in new Denso AIR/FUEL ratio sensor and fixed both the the issues in the title of this video and the check enginer light. P0420 code came back three weeks later along with P0240 PD code. Thinking I might replace UPSTREAM o2 sensor underneath the car and replacing spark plug tube seals cause i found oil in one of the spark plug tubes when replacing wires. Oh well... if anyone has any experience with this let me know so i can clear this damn check engine light once and for all. i really don't want to replace the cat. thanks.

Can a spark plug oring seal that is leaking some oil in one of the four cylinders just a little but no oil fouling or carbon build up on the threaded portion or electrode cause a hesitation on acceleration but not every time. What would y'all recommend??? My car idles extremely low. And acted like it's going to stall out for over 2 years.. shop told me this that and the other, fixed them still did it. Now tho, it won't stay on unless my got is on gas peddle?!

My dang 01 Camry has always had brake stopping issues. It just doesn’t have a solid stop it always seems like it hesitates when stopping. Is there anything you can do to have the brakes stop better? I have new pads rotors and calipers.

I replaced the cylinder 2 misfire coil but it is still doing the same thing so I tested it again and it says it's a cylinder 2 misfire I replaced the spark plugs also check engine light still flashes so what else could it be could it be the spark plug wires

Every Toyota I've ever owned will not let me do a brake job without bleeding the brakes. Honda's seem to let me get away with not bleeding the brakes but, not with Toyota's. But that's OK. Toyota Automatic Transmissions last much longer than with Honda's.

I'm in a bind. The only code I am throwing is Cylinder One Misfire. Car won't idle and stalls without flooring it. I started off by replacing the spark plugs. It was needed but it still misfired on #1. Replaced all the wires, still misfired on #1. I checked the resistance on the fuel injector at #1 and it was 14.1 ohms - looked okay. But I thought, well maybe it could still be clogged, replaced it. #1 still misfires. I'm wondering if the car jumped time, or bad coil. If I missed something, leave a comment.

I have a Toyota Camry LE 2001 2.2 liter 4 cyl engine . When i was driving it today it smells like a burnt rubber . i already fixed my brakes .and when i used my heater or air conditioner and used my cruise control my car kinda getting hard driving kinda losing power .I have no experience on this kinda issue . . Did you ever fix the problem? You never really said. It was stated that you thought it needed a set of spark plug wires in a tune-up. But the symptoms seem to say something different. What did you do to finally fix this car? I think I know what it needed.

Sounds like this girl got taken for a similar ride to myself. Only I went to the dealership for inspection before I bought it, and in three months spent $2k on cv axels, rotors, pads, drums, shoes, (whole brake setup twice) ignitor, distributor, wires (twice), plugs....On and on and on. Eventually back at dealership who kept it two weeks ($400) before telling me they didn’t know what was wrong with it, and sending me off with the warning I might not make it home. Problem? Charcoal canister wire was cut down INSIDE the loom, and the VSV was disconnected and hanging by the electrical connector: Alabamians are idiots
