Excited that we are playing in NRG on turf with a roof over head. This is the 3rd game in a row indoors for the Huskies. I think the lack of elements play to our strength. Outdoors on grass with wind and rain would benefit Michigan. Let's see what happens, but I like our chances given the venue.

@@RonLo defense wins championships, but I think the flaw in your logic is that Michigan's defense isn't (relatively) as good as Seattle's was. Michigan D looks good on paper, but they didn't really face any particularly good offenses. On the other side of the ball, Corum is a great RB, but the rest of that offense is pretty average. I don't see anyone shutting WA down completely, and I cannot see Michigan keeping up with Washington's explosive offense.

Food for thought. 14 Big 10 teams played 182 regular season games. Only 3 were against the PAC 12. All 3 losses to Washington, Washington State and Colorado. I’m not saying that somehow means the PAC 12 is better than the Big 10. Far too small a sample size. However it does beg the question, “Would Michigan or Washington’s stats be the same if they played in the same conference or played the same opponents?”. No way to know, so when someone says one team can’t do XYZ remember these stats are against completely different opponents. Should be interesting on Monday.

Washington "played four games against three top-25 defenses (again, Oregon twice). Texas (#11 defense), 37 points Oregon (#16 defense), 36 points (first meeting, regular season) Oregon (#16 defense), 34 points (PAC-12 CG) Utah (#24 defense), 35 points SUMMARY: against the top defenses on their schedule (with an average ranking of 16), Washington averaged 35 points. While certainly impressive, it stands out to me that Michigan's defense is rated 10 points better than Texas's (the best defense that Washing has faced). Michigan's defense will clearly be the best defense Washington has faced this year." - from MGOBLOG. This should be a really entertaining game because Washington HAS to pass the ball - and Michigan HAS to stop them passing the ball. There is no getting around that basic factor. It should be fun to watch.

I have been watching college football for many years and probably know more about Michigan than you do.. with that yes Bama beat Georgia, the transitive property does not always apply here. Georgia to me was the best team in the country and stumbled against a decent Bama team. Who cares if the games were close, they won and played a tougher schedule than you guys. You guys struggled against Maryland .. yes your team was very good but was also well rested with a cupcake schedule.. Penn state and Ohio state were good wins in regular season.. just because my analysis doesn’t fit your narrative, you cry like all Michigan fans do. Just suck it up and be happy you won a title regardless of the circumstances.. it still counts.. that is unless they strip it from you guys for all of the shenanigans that allegedly went on..which could happen.

@@irishcole3516 Michigan struggled in one singular game against a lesser opponent. UGA struggled in multiple games against lesser opponents. One is a fluke. 4 is an issue. I was simply stating Alabama was better than UGA and they were. Bama was physically dominated by Michigan and it reflects on the stat sheet. The only reason the game went to OT is because Michigan's special teams kept Bama in the game. If they execute like they regular do, Michigan ends up beating Bama by double digits in regulation. So Michigan showed that they were legitmately better than Bama and Bama exposed UGA. What the hell makes you think that fraudulent UGA team beats Michigan? After this playoff, Michigan proved they were the best team in the country.

Supposedly UW has not played any great defenses yet. But Oregon, Texas, Utah and Oregon State all have top 20 or 30 defenses. What is more interesting is that for all the accolades Michigan has gotten for their stellar defense, they have not really faced any high octane offenses yet. No way Michigan would be the #1 defense if they played in the Pac 12 with the best QB's and best offenses in the nation. I keep hearing how Michigan is built on defense to stop an offense like UW but this year anyway, they have not played anyone even remotely built like UW. UW, on the other hand, has played boatloads of high octane offenses. Oregon #2 offense in the nation (twice). Texas #9 offense in the nation, USC #11 offense in the nation, etc. Ohio State #47 offense in the nation, appears to me to be the best offense Michigan has faced all year!

The thing about cheating are the unquantifiable and accumulative impacts on recruiting, team motivations, players motivation, scores, win/losses, coaches’s strategies (and existence, i.e., who was fired due to poor performance), fans (attendance and nullification of “home field advantage”), etc... That is, Michigan’s chronic cheating has placed permanent variables on the outcomes both for them and every other competitive college football program in the country! As such, since the cheating can never be justify accounted for, a Michigan national champion win would need to be erased from the history books.

Ohio State #47 in Total Offense is the best offense Michigan faced all year. Every other team, even Bama, not even in the Top 50 in Total Offense (or scoring for that matter). But the Huskies? They played and beat great offenses all year - they beat the nation's #2 offense Oregon twice and the nation's #9 offense - Texas. Washington finished the season ranked No. 130 nationally in defensive success rate against the run. Michigan's explosive play rate in the passing game (21.9%) was actually higher than Washington's (21.4%). Washington averaged 3.12 points per possession, ranking No. 5 nationally. The Wolverines were right behind at No. 8, averaging 3.06 points per possession. Washington scored points on 50.3% of its offensive possessions -- No. 4 nationally. Michigan scored on 50.0% (No. 6). Michigan has at least 2 first round DB's - Sanristil and Will Johnson. Michigan's defensive line is the best in CFB by miles. Food for Thought. Do you think the Big 10’s defenses (and Michigan’s) look good on paper, because their stats are based on playing other Big 10 teams? The PAC 12 only played 3 games against the Big 10 this year and won all 3. Passing yards in those 3 games were way over the season averages for those Big 10 teams. Maybe the Big 10 just doesn’t have any good passing offenses…. And maybe the PAC 12’s passing offenses are just that good… Washington 536 vs Michigan State season average 237 Colorado 396 vs Nebraska season average 150 Washington State 250 vs Wisconsin season average 208 Another fun fact. Washington had 5 teams that averaged over 300 yards passing per game. The Big 10 had none. Maryland at 278 was the most. The PAC 12 had only 1 team average less than 200. Utah. The Big 10 had 5, Michigan State, Minnesota, Rutgers, Nebraska and Iowa. The media narrative is it’s because of the great Big 10 pass defenses like Michigan, but the stats don’t back that up. McCarthy bravely faced the question about the signs and he's right, it's personnel and execution that beats a team - not signs. Penix may be from Tampa but that is not known to have much to do with who wins. He's as vulnerable to the outstanding Michigan pass rush as the other teams they've beat this year. He didn't have to face much pressure from the lumbering Texan defense but he''ll have to be lucky to avoid the Michigan pass rush. He's not big, tough and sturdy like Alabama's quarterback. At the end of each year he's been hurt. Will Cinderella's slipper fit? If not, Washington better have a good back-up ready.

I hear Michigan fans saying, Michigan built its defense to beat Ohio State Stroud, Fields and Haskins! They specifically reference Stroud when Michigan broke Ohio State winning streak! News flash! Stroud didn't do any type of design runs or scrambles for runs. So much so, people complained about him not running. He ran in the playoff game against UGA in the playoff game. UGA great defense couldn't stop Ohio State offense! Michigan defense believes, they will just stop WR 3 and their TE. If Penix starts running on design runs or scrambles, then what! Penix is accurate and I mean deadly accurate! You can't stop everything or take away everything. Penix against Texas had design runs and scrambles. Texas was like F! Washington ran the ball with their RB to keep Texas honest.

No one can stop Washington’s offense, including Michigan. Can Washington stop Michigan? That’s the question, and I think they can hold Michigan to under 35, which is all that will be required. Washington will score no less than 40, and my guess is they will be in the 50’s or 60’s.

Let's add in Washington state and Oregon State too. Still think they win? Michigan did that for 2 of their biggest rivalry games this year. 1 on the road in HAPPY VALLEY. Penix has to play a perfect game for Washington to stay within 2 scores and make it a game. That’s a lot of pressure. The argument has been does UW have enough defense to beat Michigan, but does Michigan have enough offense to beat Washington? Look, both of these teams have strengths and weaknesses, but the game will be decided if the weaknesses of each team are good enough to beat the other side. Michigan played well enough offensively to beat Alabama. And Washington played well enough defensively to beat Texas. It will come down is Washington’s defense good enough to beat Michigans offense and vice versa. What’s actually better? Washington’s defense or Michigans offense?
@whitetail.roots.89
@whitetail.roots.89 6 ай бұрын
And there you have found the key matchup that no one is talking about. Whereas UW fans like to tout total offense, what we need to realize is that points win games, not yards. For as bad as UW fans seem to think UofMs offense is, UW averages 37.5ppg and Michigan averages 36ppg. Although Michigan doesn't put up a ton of yards, it is because they don't want to. They play ball control offense and are one of the most efficient offenses in the nation by limiting possessions and scoring when they do have the ball. I don't see where UW is going to stop UofM from controlling the ball with the running and PA pass game, whereas Michigan gives up 10ish ppg, and UW gives up 24 ppg. Now I know, I know, UofM has played no offenses so sure they're going to give up more than their average. But on the flip side, UW has played no defenses as much as their fans seem to think Utah (who lost to NW) is a tough D. That's a 12ish point gap that UW needs to close in their average point differential. I just don't see it. This is either going to be a great game coming down to a last possession or it's going to be a repeat of Seattle v. Denver in the SB that was over in the first half. Looking forward to a great game with lots of unknowns on Monday. Go blue!

You have to be a fool to take Washington in this game. These teams aren't even close. People act like Penix has been just lighting up defenses all year. Yet Washington has barely won most of their games. Even in the Texas game many of his down field passes could have easily been swatted away if the Texas defender simply played the receiver correctly. Because they were in position to make the play it makes it look great for the offense. However if the defender watch the receivers eyes and plays his hands. Many of those down field completions never happen. Texas was like 78th in pass defense with a decent defensive line for a reason. Michigan has excellent Dbs this isn't going to be an easy passing game. You can count on 10 less points then they put up against Texas. On the other hand Michigan's pass game is massively underrated. Michigans tight ends will be a problem. Washington has the speed to stay with Michigan's receivers so I don't think they are as likely to be a big threat. They will have some big plays though. I see this as Michigan 45 Washington 31 with a late gimmie touchdown to get 31.
