I was the camera assistant on this film... (and also shot parts of it) It was an incredible experience and made for some memories and stories!

I think you and I may have come close to meeting then. At the 30:24 mark there is a shot of a red Suburban driving towards the camera. You can see my silhouette in the back seat. I was about 14-15 at the time. We all commented about having seen the camera and then saw our red suburban when we caught the show on TV.

Thankyou both of you Josh and camaron sir. I was of just 12 when I firt saw the documentary and your documentary have triggered my urge to work for US Fish and Wildlife and explore more of American wildlife especially those of Rockies and Alaska. Unfortunately I have not managed to travel the lovely amd beautiful country, but ofcourse whenever I will, I wish to see those places in real, undisturbed and unchanged.

Who ever put this up,thank you from the bottom of my heart.I had it vhs until I wore it out.I have searched and searched to find it.My son and I watched it hundreds of times and 20 years later we backpacked Yellowstone.This is the best bear video ever.

I loved this documentary back in the 80s and was watching it occasionally in the 90s as well. Man, it aired 36 years ago... Thanks for uploading this. I probably have an old VHS recording of it somewhere, but it'd take forever to try and find it.

we spent months on the film... all over Alaska... Montana etc.. Basically 4 people.. director, cameraman, camera assistant & sound person.. our director ted's wife also to helped produce it.. The North Slope in Alaska was an incredible wilderness... way, way out there... we flew in on bush plane and helicopter... and the McNeil Falls in Kati was another incredible spot... I remember counting over 60 bears in one place at one time all fishing salmon... we were charged a couple of times over the course of shooting but never had to hurt a bear ...

If it comes our way, we will definitely upload! This grizzly bear program was one of four National Geographic specials digitized recently. The other three shows were blocked due to copyright claims.

Check out Wilford the bear on Parliament of Owls channel. He's a battle scarred Los Angeles Forest bear who's sturdy, beloved and free. You'll know him forever after you see his gorgeous face.
