He would later lose use of his legs in parachute malfunction, on a training mission, from that to 3 years recovery in traction and full body cast, he finally made it to a wheelchair, where he'd go on to coach handy cap kids in wheelchair sports, then on to paralympic training, where he'd win multiple silver and bronze between Spain and Korea, finally winning that elusive Gold Medal at the 96 games in Atlanta. The 19th and 20th SF Army NG is a major component of the U.S. Army SF Command. And yes, you can transfer to Active Army already being Special Forces. Being Special Forces in the Army Guard, is more demanding. You will be deployed at a moment's notice. Because the 19th and 20th SF Army NG spend a lot of time doing Active full time missions all over world.

Imma tell you from experience just go infantry first. Get airborne and air assault certified if you go active and then go see if you can be in SF. I never tested my luck and stayed in the 2nd

Yes you can but highly recommend you finish your Guard Committment first they hate guys who come, get qualified and cut sling load. I knew a guy( a pretty famous guy in the community) who was at 19th Group and was ready to go to SFAS and could not get them to send him. He went to my Battallion at 20th Group and got qualified then immediately left and went back to 19th. Yeh he got qualified but that I'm sure engendered alot of trust issues and put a ? on him at both units. Thats just going from one Guard unit to another jumping to the active side is far more common and they will give you a mountain of shit if you dont at least fulfill your commitment.

SF in the guard at least. Apply for RASP/Airborne. Gets you the chance to become a Ranger. Be beyond excellent when it comes to PT. You should already be at a 300+ for the APFT if you want the best chance to succeed everything else is discipline and leadership.
