Thanks for sharing. Wonderful perspective. Not all Amish do vote. I know some did. In spite of some saying I should I did not. Like I heard someone ask "why should I vote for a crook?" They're both crooked.

We agree with the basic principle of the two kingdoms and non-resistance. However, God looks at the heart. There is a world of difference between making a choice of leader vs. siding with them. It's like slavery, if given a choice to be free, you exercise it but it doesn't mean that you begin to be a slave of the world. The concept of non-resistance should not overflow to a strict concept of non-involvement as long as making the choice does not imply changing allegiance. It's like the freedom to pray for whatever you wish (John 15:7) but in the end completely submitting to God's answer with the same joy whatever the answer.

Hi Eleah. We cannot find a primary source for this letter. It’s quoted on pages 39 and 40 of Emmy Barth’s “No Lasting Home.” I think that you can freely access a .pdf of this book on Ploughing Publishing’s website. Barth cites this as her source: John D. Thiessen, Mennonite & Nazi? Attitudes Among Mennonite Colonists in Latin America, 1933-1945 (Kitchener, Ontario: Pandora Press, 1999), 73.

I'm wondering what would you believe about this whole protest in Canada and across the world to lift mandates etc? Should one take part in protest?
@AnabaptistPerspectives
@AnabaptistPerspectives 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy, The question of the protests in Canada to lift COVID-related mandates makes me think of 1 Peter 2:13-14. “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.” It’s difficult for me to reconcile the New Testament’s call to respect and obey laws and the government with what I see happing in the truckers’ protest, so I really don’t think it’s wise for Christians to participate. Obviously, for Christians, there are times with disobedience is necessary. In Acts 5:29, Peter says, “We ought to obey God rather than men.” When obedience to the civil laws contradicts God’s laws, Christians must disobey one for the sake of following God. COVID policies are inconvenient and might demonstrate inappropriate government overreach (I’m not in a position to make a verdict on that question), but I don’t see them as causing believers to disobey God. So, I don’t think Christians should be joining in a protest that seeks to manipulate the government into accommodating our wishes. I welcome push-back and counterpoints on this issue.

Hello there, can you recommend a good english Bible translation? Thank you
@AnabaptistPerspectives
@AnabaptistPerspectives 4 жыл бұрын
Numerous English translations, I believe, faithfully communicate the Bible’s message. I know some of us behind Anabaptist Perspectives use the English Standard Version. Others use the New King James Version. Both translations, though having slightly different aims and methodologies, closely resemble each other and are faithful to accurately translate the Bible message.

20:13 - ישו המלך Yeshu Hamalech (YESHoo ha-mah-LECH; gutteral sound 'ch'.) The 'dzh' sound of the modern English J is foreign to Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and every other Latin-alphabet-based language except English. The Greek Ιησούς became the Latin Iesus. In languages like German, to this very day, the letter j is pronounced like a y. In Spanish it's an h. But after the Norman conquest of the British Isles in the 11th century, the French 'zh' became gradually hardened into the 'dzh' sound we now have in English, which makes our pronunciation of his name uniquely and jarringly inaccurate. And the Father's name isn't dzhe-HO-vah either, nor is it 'Yahweh', but YAHUWAH.
