I know it's an extremely boring subject for most users but Native Instruments gives accessibility to visually impaired users like myself. All the browser and adjustments to different plugins are accessible via voice feedback. It's a dream come true for me. Now, I have a fantastic workflow. That said, the A-Series is enough for me since i don't need both screens. Great review, very professional.By the way, 1 out of 20 user benefits from accessibility on Kontrol. Native Instruments are not only 'nice guys', they know how to make money! I've changed all my software suite for accessible Komplete 12 Ultimate Collectors Edition. It pays off, for them and myself.It's a good thing to talk about that very rare addition to music production software / hardware.

That's fantastic. It's true, my eyes glaze over a little bit hearing about accessibility functions, I won't lie, but I am very, very glad you have this capability. Good on NI, bc you're right, when people move their whole workflow over to Komplete/Maschine, it is obviously good for business lol. Good luck with your music career and God bless.

It's good - but you could get something way cheaper. You're paying for an amazing (and flashy) controller AND awesome software. If you're adding MIDI tracks using software samples just get an m-audio or something - they sync super easily to any comp/daw - way cheaper, more configurations for what you want... That being said, I just got the maschine micro and am looking at this cuz the sampling software and the hardware are amazing.

Hi i have a question , does this keyboard helps you to pick notes in the right musical scale if you are simply using the Ableton's Piano Roll? or it would help you only if you using a NI vst or software ? I would buy this coz I'm not a musician so I need help me write some chords while I'm producing. If this only gonna work using NI softwares I'm not gonna buy it. Pratical example, I open Ableton , drop a Sylenth1 vst , open the piano roll ; is the S49 gonna show me which notes I can play to stay in key? thanks!!

No it doesn't (I don't believe it does anyway), only when using NI's Komplete. You could do this with a rack in Ableton anyway www.ableton.com/en/blog/holy-scale-chord-progression-rack-8bitbandit/

That's a toughie as it's pretty subjective, for me I like 61 keys as a minimum but if you're only playing basic block chords and single octave lead lines etc then 49 will be plenty :)

Yeah, Sonar and keyboard integration was never that great. I still have my Sonar (now Cakewalk by Bandlab) but I have moved on to Ableton as my main DAW.

What would be the best software to use with this keyboard for video, sound effects on cue. I think I'm explaining this correctly. I want to place a sound byte of footsteps on a key, for example. Great video by the way!

What are you trying to achieve? If you're scoring a video you're better off using an video editing software and not using a keyboard, if you're just looking to trigger samples you could do that with any DAW

The NI keyboards are most tightly integrated with Maschine, if you load Komplete Kontrol as a VST in Ableton it should work just fine though

@@digitaldjtips Thanks! Yeah I've run into a problem with recording the sounds from packs I bought for Komplete Kontrol like Kontakt. I couldn't get Ableton or Fruity Loops to do this, record those sounds from Kontakt. I'm new I admit but it's getting discouraging for sure. Starting to feel like I waisted $600+ bucks.

Hmm - So you open up a new track in Ableton, open up Komplete Kontrol as a VST, head to Kontakt within it, enable the Ableton track for recording, hit record and you're not able to record the instrument?

If you're a piano/keyboard player you'll likely want the 61 key (and may even find that too small), if not and space is an issue go for the 49

I haven't personally used this keyboard so couldn't say for sure but I would say if you're going to be performing on this or playing parts that require more keys I'd look at 61 key or even 88 key keyboards (if you're a pianist) instead - 49 keys run out quickly when not just programming in simple parts

They can easily put bigger and wider screens by taking up more real estate on the left and right and just having the buttons spread out just a little bit more it's just so much empty space... seems wasted, I'm sure functionality wise it's a really good keyboard

Question... Can this controller allow you to load in and control any/all plugins like the Akai Advance 49, or does it only do it for Native Instruments plugins. Im in the market for a good controller and cant seem to find the answer to this question anywhere. If Komplete Kontrol does, I'll happily buy it since I am a fan of NI.

it lets you use NI's Komplete Kontrol plugin straight out the box (Komplete Kontrol lets you browse patches / sounds and automatically maps controls to the knobs). But you can also map the Kontrol S49 to plugins from other companies :)

You should be straight! This shit is a tank, im using it with logic on my mac and i cant find a thing wrong.. i do gotta say you must have Mojave on Mac for it to work.. my old mac book couldnt handle... also make sure you have PLENTY of internal storage

What do you mean? :) it's great for Ableton because you can use it with Live's devices if you want to. All Midi controllers do that - what makes this good with Ableton is it's got a mapping that lets you control other aspects of Live like the mixer which shows up on the screens...

@@digitaldjtips I think he means the flawless integration with Ableton Live like with for example the Novation Sl mk3 which is much better integrated in Ableton compared to NI Komplete. Both are excellent products, but Novation is the better choice relating Ableton Integration which your "KZfaq Video Title (Best for Ableton ...)" actually clues.

No, I believe you can scrub with the large rotary but that's most likely restricted to certain DAWs (Maschine)

No I don't think is the best keyboard for Ableton just 'cause you can see the mixer volume on the onboard screen. See, I have a cheap akay apc 25key and THAT is way more integrated in ableton than this controller. Ofc you can see the volume (...) of each track on the keyboard, you also have a 8x5 grid to launch your tracks. A Launchkey would be more integrated and cheaper, a slim master k. and one launchpad would be even better. You get this AND a Machine pad than you have an integrated environment for Mascine, which is not Ableton just to start. You don't buy NI for Ableton, you do it strictly for its own ecosystem. You buy Akai, Novation for Ableton.

Also I agree with your statment. Only issue is, the NI has the Fatar Keybed. Novation cheaps out on it with there SL(premium) MK3. Ideally I would love Novation MK3 with the Fatar Keybed.

The Fatar Keys used in the KK S series boards are the exact same Keybed used in the NORD Stage synths. Basically the best in the business. The Novation SL has average Semi weighted keys at best.

KOMPLETE KONTROL software is absolute garbage ! I am stuck for about a week not able to use the software at all (as I have endless problems either with plugins or content libraries). Every time I open Native Access it goes out of the screen. Many interfaces opened in Kontakt on my 4K screen are completely unreadable (to small to blurry). Support ticket wizard is the worst thing I have seen in my entire life. No way to track tickets directly through the site. Now way to register/unregister single products from KOMPLETE and Native Access interface (which BTW endlessly keeps asking for an update). Major features which users ask for years are not added. Upgrade policy sucks - meaning - if you purchased a single product from NI and not it is part of the KOMPLETE suite they want you to pay for it twice and you end up with 2 licenses and SN). You will not get a refund or discount. NI support replies about every 3rd day so after a week they asked few dozens of questions and no help, no resolution, no nothing. I paid in last 5 years $5k+ for their hardware and software and it was the worst musical decision of my life. While the 3rd party libraries and sounds are mostly OK or even excellent, everything else about this company simply sucks. I would never buy any NI products again nor recommend it to a friend. I really wish that one day Kontakt is replaced with some "real software" by some other competitive company. Perhaps the reason that this company is so bad is that they have grown so big and they believe there is no competition for NKS and alike. The bottom line is: when it works it is OK (jut ok but not god) but when even small problems arise you are on your own and you waste tons of time and energy. Not worth the price.

Skrillex... or at least he used to be. Now i think he is fully CDJs. Look up Skrillex in his beginner days and you see his using the ableton launch pad as a track controller.
