You need to hold a key while playing slap, and when you momentarily release that key, it makes a pop. Then, I believe there's another key to introduce ghost notes. That's why it doesn't sound natural in this video. If you do control the Slap and Pop notes properly (and add the ghost notes), then it sounds incredibly real!

I think the phrase you're looking for is 'transitional artifacts'. Similar to what happens in Photoshop when you paste one thing over another and there's a teeny tiny edge visible.

Besides amplesound, is there anything in particular you’d recommend that really nails the control and natural slides? I remember modobaas and ezbass had their own issues and missing samples, but I don’t know if that’s changed.

The rodes affect sounds like something you'd hear in a metallica song.

Sounds a bit too processed for me. I didn't hear many clean unprocessed bass sounds. Targeted more for heavy (distorted) music. I think Acoustic Samples and Ample Sound basses provide better tone control. Ruben, could you please review some of the Acoustic Samples basses, e.g. BassysM-S (Musicman Stingray bass - slap mode)? It's on sale now for $41

Not going to lie, this plugin , like most of the recent NI plug-ins, are being made for people who don’t play instruments. Not knocking anyone or the plugin, it’s great for what it does. In My opinion NI scarbee Pre bass sounds just as good and in some cases it’s better.

Well, I don't know for this one yet... but I am a guitarist, and I totally love Electric Mint and Vintage Electric and use them in nearly all my productions :) EDIT: watched the whole video, and well, yes, the patterns do not seem to be very useful or inspiring, and yes some of the other NI basses sound probably as good, and probably better when soloing.

Or for people that do not want to buy a bass and the rest of the hardware gear just to include a simple bassline in a composition that they have made with sample libraries. Just as they have not purchased a cello, a mandolin orchestra, a symphonic brass section and a hardware modular synth and learned how to play them, but still they want to be able to bundle up a small composition to have some fun.

@@paopis I don’t think you read my post correctly. I’m not talking about people playing real basses, guitars, cellos. I’m talking about the progression of pluggins. Many of them come with preset lines and grooves for non musicians, which is fine. I was just pointing out that other older plugins like the scarbee basses are just as good if not better, they just don’t have the preset groove features and they require you to know how to play a keyboard or some other midi instrument. That’s the only reason I mentioned newer plugins cater to non musicians, which again, is not a bad thing.

@@albtii agreed! BTW I purchased Prime Bass, after having watched videos that convinced me it could be a fun tool. Presets are in fact very inspiring, and combining both melody and presets can really give nice ideas. But even with no presets, it sounds as good asmy Pre Bass, has more articulations (muted/slapped), and more control over the sound. I miss the natural slides that some old NI basses have, but you can somehow emulate them with the slide keyswitch. The good thing with pre made patterns is that some things sound more natural with them - for instance, repeating the same note on 8ths... even with round robins, even with nice libraries, it does not sound totally realistic. Here you have real 8th repeating performances, you can use them when you need them, and then switch to normal, melody mode, with the same sound. This is more powerful than any other library I own currently. And at under 50€ currently... no-brainer for me :)

@@hifimidi Thanks so much for your answer. I've been with Logic 15+ years. I recently got Cubase 12 to try to explore a new DAW, but It hasn't convinced me yet.
