Watching you and other folks like you who do this makes me wish I were younger and in better health to do this sort of thing it's a dream that has faded away and yet, I'm happy for all of you

Jesse, Jesse, Jesse. I hate to rain on your parade but.... You are so full of enthusiasm and ideas but you need to ask yourself what could possibly go wrong. And the answer is just about everything. You will find that forest leaves, twigs and seeds can float incredible distances in the wind and the forest animals, birds, mice, frogs, insects, etc. will love your pond. If you are lucky, the deer won't puncture your liner with their hooves. I am afraid there is no way you will be able to keep the pool clean enough for you to be happy. And, your maintenance work will never end. The critters will take it over. However, it will be a great place for summer picnics and ice skating parties. Love your videos.

Jesse your a workaholic with great imagination! I really like the design and chemical free philosophy. The idea of a natural stone pump house with a wood burning water heater will blend in with the surroundings. The hot tub and overflow waterfall is cool.

You did an awesome job building that. Builds like that evolve over time. I'm sure you'll make more mods as you go along till it's to your idea of perfection. Save yourself some serious dollars. Build an old fashioned farm windmill pump that also runs a generator and battery system and decorate it with a backup electric pump when for when there's no wind. A friend of mine did it for his swiming hole up in Michigan. He got his windmill used from a farmer that no longer needed it as they got ride of their cattle and now farm marijuana. They're making a whole lotta more money with a lot less headaches. In the winter he has a built-in ice rink.

The ambition level here is truly off the charts... I admire that a lot. It takes me back, to when I was young, and I had a lot of ambition.... Without going into a 50 page dissertation on pools.... You need to test your water. You can't just say "Yeah, it looks clean" and swim in it. Bacteria, algae, molds, funguses, and other disgusting organic matter, could be in there.... Don't swim in that... that's how people get sick.... Before I say this, listen, it's your property, it's your home, you should do what you want, definitely.... the amount of effort you expended though.... You could have built an amazing in ground concrete swimming pool... You can have the slope going in, on an in ground pool. Actually a popular option, for many people. You're not the only person who is not wild about chemicals. there are options. You can do a salt water pool. There are other newer more exotic technologies, that will get you where you want to be.... Some of them aren't cheap, but, if you have strong feelings... and if you're willing to educate yourself, and become a junior pool chemistry ranger, you can do it, and bring those costs down a lot, by doing it yourself, instead of paying a service to come out once a week and lighten your wallet.... Its obvious from your videos, you are a smart guy, and you have a high motivation level, and a high energy level.... I feel like you could do it. You could have what you want, in an in ground pool, and it'd be easier to maintain, and have a lot more "uptime", which would be good. Your summer season is so short anyways.... this isn't an Arizona or Southern Cal or Florida pool scenario.... Your pool season is pretty short... If you spend all summer working on the pool, you never get to use it anyways.... I'm just throwing that out there. You have all winter. Do a little research. Give it some thought...

Love the project. Making a guess here. The earth is a huge heat-sink. It will stay the temp it is in your area - 50-60 degrees. You won't be able to alter that very much without separating the water from the earth with insulation. Without that insulation the ground will take your BTUs and ask for more. Maybe keep the bottom black to get more solar help. Maybe run some part of the circulation system through lots and lots of black pipe. But pumping & moving water is SUPER energy-intensive; so chase the minimum of static resistance in all your designs. You want laminar flow anywhere possible. Maybe heat the hot tub and let the pond be the pond. Thumbs up.

Man, what a project! 8-D My former neighbour had a 25x10mtr swimming pond,shaped like a "8", he had a plant filter spiral on one end, fed by a pipe from the deepest point and seeped through the plant's roots back under the sundeck at the end. Worked great! That ground filter banks are genious, usind the space you already have... Thx for the vid, will look out for the upcomings! :-D

Pretty neat and well executed. I do believe you are being a bit optimistic as to heating your water with all that surface area to radiate the heat it would take one hell of a lot of BTU's to impact it if there is much of a gradient between the water and air. Some sort of roll away cover would lessen the heating load by quite a bit.

I think solar will be your friend for a lot of things in this system, pumps and heaters. Will be a fun build to watch, best of luck Jesse. I think filtering everything might be a bit of a challenge but there’s probably a device that I’m not aware of that can passively filter out debris that accumulates.

Re: leaves, when you make the fence, you might want to use something with smaller holes at the bottom, otherwise you will be constantly fighting wind-blown leaves.

Something that would really help you is a smaller slider door on tailgate of dump truck, similar to an old wheat truck. You’d tilt bed, lower bucket under the slider door & Wala, fill your bucket by pulling handle on slider door instead of reaching into dumpbox trying to fill bucket!

Great idea. One thing I was thinking, and not sure if your bedrock is solid or where it goes but scraping it down, then pressure washing it can be used as containment on one or more sides of a natural pond (as long as it isn't to fractured or to far above the water table). Not sure if that's an option here - but those ponds look amazing when they do that. Nice work - great video.

You may not be an expert, however, you are quite creative and with the machinery at your disposal why not have something the whole family can enjoy in the warmer months of the year.

You might want to consider picking up a dirt Grizzly for the rocks and soil being removed. That looks like some great soil your could use for fill and landscaping that you'll most defiantly need later. BTW thanks for sharing your build with us!
