Don’t inadvertently sabotage your results on a keto diet!
Food manufacturers are getting more savvy. With the growing popularity of low-carb and keto diets, they know consumers are on the lookout for products that are low in carbs. So, if a food product says “no added sugar” on the package, can you include it in a low-carb diet?
Not always! Be sure to look at the total carbohydrate on a food label. Just because there’s no added sugar doesn’t mean there isn’t a large amount of naturally occurring sugar in it - like in a fruit smoothie or a cup of granola. Check out Dr. Westman’s latest video to learn more.

I've lived a very low carb high protein diet this last year or less and have gone from 220 pounds to 130 now which feels amazing. I am only 5'2 male. I have done no exercise to do this, I just quit eating starches and sugars of all kinds. Everyone can do this, never try to rely in exercise to lose weight, only proper food consumption is what will work.

I totally agree with you 100%. Im 5”3. Going into month 6. I went from 285 to 218 in that time. I have a bum knee which is now seriously being looked into by new MD. The last one in my opinion was trying to kill me!! After I suffered a stroke in June 2021. He put me on 2 medications where he didn’t have my permission to do so! A statin and another for colitis, which I never had an issue with or experienced in my life!! From these I continued to decline in my health. This Doctor should be sued for malpractice!! Next my cardiologist had apologized to me, for stating my heartvalve had to be replaced, the other valve he stated was not the correct size🙄. Once I mentioned it was the SaintJude valve, with a 2% failure rate. That’s when he admitted he was wrong. I did tons of research on these valves and he knew it. He put me through anxiety and stress that was not warranted! Tons of people take their Dr’s word for for it, as their experts in their fields, which they are not. They’re human just like the rest of us. That make mistakes! I learned through my own ignorance. Research is key, in decisions they make that could harm you, or kill you.

@@johnnafarrell3336 You're very right. Health care workers can make mistakes. Individuals must do their own research on health and medicine to help themselves and not only depend on the health care workers.

Excellent work! Perhaps I should stop eating carbohydrates like you. I reduced my carbs to mostly green vegetables like parsley or cabbage. I like to eat carbs occasionally like popcorn. I do calorie counting to limit my food consumption and I went from 244 pounds to 152 pounds at my lowest weight.

@@Prodigious1One a really good read is by Dr Ken Berry. The title, The lies my Dr told me. As in eating one egg is equivalent to smoking 5 cigarettes 🙄. Great job and congrats on your weight loss. I can’t stress enough how it’s so important to do your research. 😊

Eating is so important for health and very hard to master. One can lose weight simply from changing their diet. But exercise is also SO important in maintaining health for so many reasons; aiding in weight loss and maintenance, improving mood and flexibility, bone health, keeping the heart in good shape, etc. Exercise AND nutrition are both needed to maintain optimal health

Great topic for me because a lot of so called keto bars have at least 1g of sugar. This old diet mentality rears it’s ugly head from time to time telling me that it won’t be a problem to have just one bar but my body is telling me something different. Thanks for your expertise in helping me get the best result from keto. God bless you.

GREAT VLOG! As always, keep it up! RESPECTFULLY submitted question: would you consider a zoom interview with another MD Dr. Mike Hansen, another KZfaq MD. He seems 2Bon a repeated vlog theme of smoothies: seeds, fruit, etc.?

Thank you fro these very informative videos. Ione thing I think should be really put out there for the overweight population is fatty liver disease and the consequences of that. I suffer from NASH as a result. Had weight loss surgery last year that improved my liver function. Sadly no formation about liver disease was ever discussed. I have been following your program for awhile now and very happy to report had bloodwork yesterday which showed even better liver function, decreased enzymes. Will be having the Fibroscan next week and anxious to see if there is much improvement there. I find if I stick to simple whole foods and stay away from the products like "keto" treats I will avoid those tricky hidden sugars.

My kids blood sugar levels are sometimes elevated to 130s, 140s, and 150s. Should I be worried about this?

If it’s under 2 hours after eating, then no. If it’s more than 2 hours after eating with those levels, then your kid is in trouble from too much sugar and carbs.

There isn't any difference in the sugar molecules. The difference is what is with or in natural sugar that regulates glucose spikes. Glucose spikes tell your cells that there's too much sugar so your body stores it as fat. Avoid canned, pre-made, processed foods that aren't fermented or cured properly. Eating whole, fresh, raw, or freshly cooked foods is the most effective way to maintain good health. You can find ways to eat foods high in sugars that won't spike glucose levels. Doctors will tell you to avoid cereals (yes, avoid processed cereal), but whole grains are great fiber and long-lasting energy sources. There are tips and tricks to enjoying foods that may be regarded as less healthy. Having coffee after breakfast lowers glucose spikes (unless you add sugar).

Dr Westman, what is your view on VLCDs (800kcals/day) with replacement meals/shakes for losing significant amounts of weight and reducing liver/pancreas fat etc? Are you against them? Any advice much appreciated, thank you

Avoiding products with high sugar added is a good thing. This dude kinda coming across like a sugar industry lobbyist. Telling people it doesn't matter what kind of sugar you eat is exactly why America has an awful obesity problem.
