In this beginner tutorial, I will tell you all about nature journaling, which supplies you need and show you how to sketch 3 simple objects that you can find almost everywhere - a pine cone, a piece of fern and two pieces of bark.
I'll be drawing with a fine liner (xs or 0,3 size) and painting with watercolours in my handmade nature journal - if you want to make it, check out my Skillshare class:

You know our little country? That's so lovely! I like it a lot, too:) I wouldn't want to move - I like the low crime and lots of nature:) Both great for sketching outdoors - I can walk in woods in the middle of the night here no problem and the nature is gorgeous:) You've made my day:)

I love your style! I homeschooled my children and we did a lot of nature study, now that they have graduated I have been working on my art. I am going to put this into practice and do nature study on my own. New subscriber, thanks!🙂

That is awesome! It is so nice to see that you are still creating after the kids no longer need you to. This is the real art - just for you and your sanity and mood and wellbeing (and everybody around you benefits, of course:). I will post a video about nature journaling in winter - because it can be a bit challenging sometimes when the weather is not so mild - but there are some hacks that make it easier:) I am so happy to have you here - I love nature art and want to bring it to everybody - like the child who has to tell everybody of their little project :D. PS: I thought about home-schooling, too (daddy was a bit sceptical, though :D). Here it is very rare and public schools are quite good so I made a compromise and they went to school but I got them out as soon as the classes finished - which meant they were at school from 8:30 till 12 usually when they were little :D. Now they finish at 1 or 2pm which still allows for nature and art :)

Thank you,!I found this inspiring and loved the reminder that we can do nature journalling indoors. I'm in the UK and for a lot of the year it's too cold to sit outside to draw and paint.

You are so welcome! I totally get the cold weather not being so inviting to sketching outdoors - I'm always freezing, too! I have some tips on how to nature journal in winter in another video if you're interested, though. It's not the same as in the summer and spring but it's doable with some tricks. However, indoors is always an option - and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it - if you go outside and bring something home (either a twig, a pebble or a memory, they all work) you can be inspired and warm at the same time:). I hope you have some sunny days now - we have wonderful weather these last few days!

Haha, I'm the same - when I meet with our urban sketchers' group I always draw plants and people :D. Sketching in nature is more relaxing than in a café or sidewalk in my opinion - it's easier when you're a bit shy about your work as the trees don't look over your shoulder;) and the subject matter is... well... the best that there is:). I hope you get a chance to do some art in nature soon:).

You are very welcome and thank you so much for your lovely comment! I hope I will bring you many more inspiring videos on those topics - I have the whole nature journal series in the making for the spring and I loooove watercolour so those will sure be featured a lot:). I will get into coloured pencils as well, this was a very timely reminder:). I totally agree - nature journaling is not just for practicing art skills, it keeps us grounded and makes us love our environment much more - you can't not be a bit happier when you find something beautiful around you - even if it's just a stone or a rock:). Thank you for the idea about coloured pencils, I'll make sure to use them again soon:)!

Thank you so much for the lovely comment! It really is pretty easy to draw organic shapes - they are very forgiving! With portraits, we can see if an eye is 2 mm of but for fern and pinecones we're much less accurate;). Evolution of our brain - it was very important how another person looked at you and if there's something weird about it but for pinecones - as long as they are roughly the same we don't even notice the difference so the natural materials are perfect to start drawing - that's why nature journaling is so much fun - it rarely looks totally ugly - usually it's a nice memory even when our skills are not at the top yet:).

I did one with tips how to journal in winter and what supplies to take on vacation but I have a ton of ideas for each season, etc... I am a bit nervous to what people would need most so if you have any suggestion let me know it will be easier to choose. I made a couple of shorts but I haven't publish any - I am kind of nervous to do that and I have no idea why - there is no particularly good reason not to but I keep putting it off for some reason :D. What nice, I like the way you play with the colors. What kind of fineliner you use?
@veryartyfairy
@veryartyfairy Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. Sorry for the late reply - this one didn't show in the notifications. I love playing with colours! On the go I use Faber Castel Pitt pen fine liners - you can see them at 2:50 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z56IbMKGqdG7iZc.html They have much better and more durable nib and they they hold waaaay more ink than Microns - those are the worse from what I've tried. I liked Staedler fine liners, too, but Pitt pen fine liners are my favourite - they are totally water proof and the nib is really great - I have no affiliation with them, I just like them a lot:). At home, I usually use a Rotring technical pen which is a refillable pen with metal nib and a cartridge that you just pour their ink (from the bottle) into. They are pricy but very well worth it if you draw a lot. You do have to draw often so they don't clog, that could be a downside - so if you don't use them a lot fine liners are a better choice. But you can also write with them, I use mine all the time and once you have the pens, they work for years and the ink is much cheaper in the long run.
