I would have included Raven, since even though he's not a Myrmidon like Guy, I think he fits the lore & personality of a Navarre much better. And he's a Mercenary, which is the next closest thing. I know FE7 is already filled with Navarres but still.

Ryoma is so good that it's honestly easier to solo Birthright's last few chapters with him and a pair-up bot than trying to play them legitimately.

I think the important thing to remember against for is the context in which she joins. Fir joins in the western isles, which is extremely axe heavy. She can dodge the enemies pretty reliably which makes her a lot easier to train compared to other units that join with similar stats. Yeah she’s basically just a worse rutger, but rutger is one of the best units in the game. Plus to quote mekkkah “just use both”. Fe6 as a game likes swordmasters. Don’t arbitrarily limit yourself to just one.

Navarre is actually super good in B2. Heroes have waterwalk and 7 indoor move which allows them to contribute on many maps indoor and outdoor where a lot of units struggle. On maps with a lot of non desert Terrain he can compare well to Draco knights and on indoor maps he's way better than them. He's 1 Wpnlvl off from being able to use every sword in the game and FE3 has a ton of great swords with effective damage. He's very likely to get it too because he join position in chapter 7 lets him get like 3 free levels that no one else can really claim. He'll be very strong in the mid game being able to find a weapon to ORKO about any enemy type and can equip the Levin sword for 1-2 range if needed. At base he can ORKO enemy heroes with the effective sword and has enough bulk to take two of them which is crazy helpful in some of the later maps. His biggest issue is his hp which is kinda low and makes him a bit less reliable than Ogma at hitting the magical 33 hp benchmark to fight Medeus reliably. He could easily go up to A tier. Samto is kinda weird, he's actually really good in B2 since he has most of the same advantages as other heroes. He's just not worth using over Ogma/Navarre. 7 wpnlvl let's him use most relevant swords so he'll ORKO dragons in the dragon arc fro full level ups. You can pretty easily promote him using the second hero crest and there are a few reasons to have a backup hero in the late game. He's like Navarre/Ogma but without the bonkers mid game contributions so I'd honestly put him over Joshua in C tier.

Myrmidons seem good in a vacuum, but their problems lie with more meta reasons. Typical culprits include slow enemies overall, lots of lance users, and general superiority of mounted units. But 13 year old me didn't mind any of that at all.

At least I get to revel in his RD Part 1 performance, and then spoil him rotten with skills to turn him into Ayra & Noish’s/Jamke’s secret third child.

23:51 about the sol comment. I always see Sol/Aether/Luna as resource savers rather than reliable calculations. In a case like Sol, it saves a use of healing magic/items, and save the action economy of not having to use said item.

Bit of a late response, but on the topic of Lon'qu, I agree more or less where you put him. He doesn't 2HKO enemies, even with a Vaike pairup, which gives him +4 STR, but he does have a relatively fast support with Vaike, which I think helps him out incredibly. There's a lot of wyvern riders and bandits in early Awakening, who use axes, which help Lon'qu out a lot, and he gains a rather notable avoid buff as a swordmaster. He doesn't really get that many good skills, so he doesn't really stand out that much from other units in Awakening, but he serves his purpose well. I normally found him falling off near the end game, where there's an increase in magic users, and not as many axe users, but I keep him on for a decent long while.

finally some Fir recognition. being able to train up a 2nd Rutger in Axe Isles is pretty dope.

During the manakete gauntlet in FE6, Rutger was my only unit capable of singlehandedly killing the dragons without a legendary weapon, and I think that was what really put into perspective how good he was. EDIT: God, Pokémon music’s always so good

Lon’qu’s placement is about right I’d say. As far as gen 1 awakening units without galeforce go, he’s really good.

FE1 Navarre is extremely good, B rank is good placing. One of the few characters that can promote and heroes have really good bases with GBA level cavalier movement. And promoted classes can walk over water tiles.

i think the "gii" pronunciation of "guy" is a case similar to camus. it's also a french name, but people who weren't aware of how it's pronounced in french took to saying it another way.

Mekkah: Myrmidons are pretty bottom heavy in tier list, also they don't contribute much to LTCs and efficency runs. Also Mekkah: Rutger is arguably the best unit in FE6. Overall nice tier list as always Mekkah. Are we gonna get a lord tier list?

I find sonya better because beating Deen allows you to get a Brave Sword for Grieth's citadel, his chapter is much easier than the witch spam that is Sonya's, and really both him and Sonya are late so those are the things I profit from

Guy will always be my favorite FE7 character. Raven has Hand Axes and enemy phase but is top heavy, can't dodge accurate magic and Boltings can be fatal to him. Guy meanwhile reliably dodges just about everything and, granted has a small STR growth, feels much more solid in Skl/Spd/Lck over Raven overall, if we're taking RNG blessed/screwed into consideration. Comes very early before you get your X-mas Cavaliers or Florina and helps take out a lot of important mooks. Edit: in FE10 Pt. 3 giving Zihark Resolve helps him dodge all Laguz if he takes even one hit from a cat or tiger, and with a proper sword will level up every other kill, which will instantly jump him up in levels for a master crown. Lon'Qu is a bit tricky because he's technically optimized as a Wyvern Lord, I usually change him to that in my Lunatic runs because you don't need more swordies than you already get. Felix was my MVP of my no-grind no NG+ Silver Snow run as a Grappler, was a dodge tank and monster killer and without him couldn't have reliably beaten Rhea. I find him much better than Edelgard, maybe not the other lords but if I had to choose between the two I'd very easily choose him.

I haven't considered that self nerf that you mentioned on Marisa, about grinding an underleveled unit to your party's level. I'm gonna do that on my next FE8 run

By the way, what do you consider to be “grinding” in three houses? Would doing any battles apart from the main story and paralogues be grinding? would picking battle every week and doing auxiliary battles be grinding?

As someone who used Lon'qu on Lunatic (cuz I have a soft spot for Swordmasters), I would say that he amusingly plays like Ogma. He's good early game when there are a lot of axe users and can dodge tank fairly reliably. However, later parts have warriors with bows, wyvern lords with lances, heroes, and tons of classes with lances and swords, so he falls off fairly hard. You could make him work with supports such as the Avatar support and certain reclasses such as Wyvern Lord to get the Swordbreaker, but there are other units who could use the investment and do a better job (Robin with Def+/Luck- is super OP with Lucina and Morgan as her children), assuming that you aren't grinding against the Risen challenges, which is near impossible on Lunatic unless you have been using exclusively strong units like Robin (again) The only saving grace for Lon'qu is that he can double, but that doesn't help because Awakening is an enemy phase game, which punishes Lon'qu's lack of actual tanking capability (dodge tanking is very unreliable on Lunatic mode unless you have Superior weapons or weapon triangle advantage). EDIT: For the tier, I'd say that Ayra is a better unit than Lon'qu because at least, Ayra is much better and reliable fighter than he is. Then again, it could be more of the Lunatic enemies being much stronger than the Gen 1 Jugdral units.

I've found Lon'qu is best served being a +speed pairup for Tharja or Miriel or some other unit that could use the extra four points of speed that he gives.

Nice tier list like usual. I would just like to address one point. In Radiant Dawn there are 3 tiers of classes and pretty much every character outside of the Dawn Brigade starts at tier 2. I think it's more like the the Dawn Brigade starts as some sort of trainee units kind of like Sacred Stones than units like Zihark beign a pre-premote.

I played Fe6 very early into my FE career, so Rutger made me have high expectations for myrmidons/swordmasters. My favorite sword bois are Shannan, Shiva, Rutger (surprise), Joshua, Zihark, Lon’qu and Felix.

You really should play vestaria saga. Not necessarily as a let's play, just on your own time. it's quite good, imo, and has a pretty good navarre both in gameplay and in that their edginess gets explored a bit in the plot. The navarre in Tear Saga is also pretty damn good because his personal sword makes him take half damage from all sources when it's equipped, but that game has a lot of very strong personals.

I think Guy is like Lyn but without the Mani Katti. He does well in the arena with a Nini's Grace, and you can train him against pirates in chapters like Dread Isle and Crazed Beast. But the only thing he's useful for after that is killing more pirates.

Funny that you mention Zihark having trouble dodging vs the laguz, as the roiding Zihark strat surfaced (and what you're doing in your ignorant dawn playthrough rn) I found just giving him resolve more or less helps fix his dodging laguz issue with only a level 5 zihark and a volug c support. It's still kinda scary bc it isn't a 0% hitrate like with a roided zihark but resolve really does make me more confident in his frontline ability than in previous runs when I didn't give him that skill. It's been by far the best experience with part 3 Zihark in hard mode, and I've played a lot of radiant dawn.

I would argue that Joshua deserves a B because lancereavers are available fairly before lance users can get to a point to hit Joshua and after that it becomes a monster spam. Not to mention the few chapters after him have many ax users that dream of hitting him so he levels up quite nice. I guess I would rank him Ephraim route: B- Eirika route: A- Which settles nicely into B for me.

Ryoma also is one level away from Astra. A pretty good combat skill, and it shouldn't have competition for a skill slot on him unless you're reclassing

24:26 I in fact didn't miss this guy on my first playthrough, because of someone's very wonderful Thracia's beginner's guide! Sadly he ended up as bench juice for the whole run and I probably would have preferred the accost scroll, shield ring, knight's crest, and warp staff I failed to get in my efforts to recruit him. Next time I will have to find a way to recruit him without losing any chests or killing dancers....

You haven't played Birthright so a small spiel for Ryoma there He joins in like ch15 and he can easily solo the game from then out. You actually don't need to use anyone else. Birthrights difficulty is already a joke without him but Ryoma is completely busted beyond belief. Think of Karel in your Reverse Recruitment run, but without the really bad start. If this list had an S+ Birthright Ryoma would be that, though he could be knocked for not joining until ch15 (so a bit less than half of the game to use him)

I personally don’t like Lon’qu at all. His base strength is one point lower than Gaius on hard mode. Gaius!!! Your thief!!! A lot of people love him because he kills things but I don’t think he is good at all. I’d rather just give his killing edge to like Stahl or Robin. Also glad to see praise for my boy Jaffar. I wouldn’t call this an archetype, but I think it would be cool to take a look at all the characters who are the most OP in their games. And sort of rate them by how much break the game once you have them. People like: Sigurd-FE4 Perceval-FE6 Sirius/Palla/Catria-FE3 Seth-FE8 And so on and so forth. I think it could be interesting to see how all of the strongest of the strong compare with each other. Though you might have to take some liberties with the tier list in that case.

I've always had so much trouble with Navarres in general (and I got my own Navarre killed early on in the DS version). Note: I haven't played with S tier Navarres yet. I can't deal with their low tank which makes them a pain to train in the arena. Especially since I sometimes forget to feed them kills, they drop off hard and I just end up accidentally getting them killed in the arena.

My misconception about Sonia being a better recruit option than Dean in Echoes was that Dean drops his sword when you beat him but Sonia doesn't drop her magic. That, and the pitfall of class variety, but that'd be an issue for Sonia as well, given the small number of playable classes in Echoes.
