Best video I have seen of Pensacola OCS. I finished in 08-07, and it was almost the same (minus the boxing). Same buildings, same sand pit, probably the same briefcases and rifles. Won’t ever forget Master Gunnery Sgt Foshee, from some extra time served in H class.

Good memories . . . sort of. Class 13-88. Tell you what though, glad to be watching office entries with Gunny Holt rather than doing them...

Thanks for posting! I was 22-89 - so many familiar sight and sounds. It was a shock to see how much things have changed at NAS Pensacola when I visited recently.

NAOC class 35-71. Bound for the fleet off Vietnam in the back seat of an F4. Call sign: Eyechart. SSGT A. W. Myers was a fine DI and a fine man. Somehow I made it thru.

This brings back a lot of memories. I graduated with Class 21-86 (Sosa's Blackjacks), being commissioned as an Ensign on a Thursday July 3, 1986, at the Naval Air Museum. Will never forget my Drill Instructor, SSGT Jose Sosa, USMC. He was the "Best of the Best".

I just had a flashback so hard I jolted upright in my seat. I didn't even remember that I remembered that Bulldog on the wall (around 9:45). It brought it all back--that first day (24-89) when the 2 LTs who brought us on base said don't dare look in that hatch as we walked by and told us to take a BIG stride OVER the space in front of that room and to keep going without looking back. Not like it mattered, because 5 minutes later that room emptied into our classroom and it was game on.

Class 16-76; remember last week of June entire class in the hallway with doors, windows closed and a/c off doing exercises for some offense. At least an inch of water (sweat) llooding the hall upon completion. Met my wife who was the receptionist at Mustin Beach O'Club is my highlight; celebrating 46 years this year.

I was 17-85. My son will be in Academy class 27. We were watching Plebe Summer video's and I came across this good AOCS video. Nice to see the riffle run and the sugar cookie pit. Didn't show the "Black Hole". Glad I made it, would not want to do it again.

@Braxle Cole - AOCS has been merged with OCS, so it no longer exists. Naval OCS used to be easier than AOCS, with the goal of the Marine Corps drill instructors in AOCS to get as many candidates to quit as possible during the first several weeks. Supposedly when they merged AOCS and OCS, they kept it as hard as AOCS and made OCS harder.

04-90 here. at 47:18 the Candidate Commanders change command. 26 Oct 89, that's 3 weeks before I showed up...we had a Christmas break ...that saved a lot of guys. 3 weeks into this you begin to wonder if you're gonna finish it. 28 years and 5 months later, they're making me retire. if you haven't done it, you don't understand it.

Originally 16-88, pretty much immediately rolled to G-Co for volunteering at NAMI that I had a family history of Diabetes.....my bad PO1 Judah , Corpsman USN said , " Sir, you know what NAVY stands for?" I said no, Petty Officer Judah, I do not and I am a candidate, not an officer, so technically an E-5. He laughed and said "OK , candidate, it stands for NEVER AGAIN VOLUNTEER YOURSELF".... funny.... NAMI WHAMMIED to 22-89. GYSGT Scott Woodrring. Alot of good guys in that class. Tore my MCL and Medial Meniscus during an 0500 evolution of Fireman's Carry Relays on the grass strip next to the seawall and EVO was being run by SSGT Batt II HWSRN in the dark. Tore up my knee, SSGT made me get up and pick up the other candidate again, and my knee was history, as was my Naval Aviation career that day. Could not run formation runs on tarmac after knee surgery and was offered NAVSURFWAR or medical discharge DD214. LT Col Thomas Truniet, USMC and GYSGT (at the time - went on to be the MSGT of the entire USMC) Carlton Kent did everything in their power to get me waivered. But it was not to be. Went to NAMI post surgery and months later after BUMED waiver board and was NPQ for Pilot/NFO. . CDR Ambrose//NAMI asked me what I wanted to do. I said "Sir, with all due respect, get me the fuck out of here". He chuckled and said ok candidate. This was all because of the Gramm Rudman Appropriations Act that was a defense budget cutting bill - massive cuts. Someone like me with a bum knee was not going to be given a waiver. Per my detailer....YOU ARE AT THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME, MAN..... I went on to become a flight instructor , Corporate Pilot, pilot to the elite ( actors/actresses, OGAs after 9/11, sports figures, heads of state including Karzai, Bhutto, Musharraf, Blair, Putin, and Clinton ) and have 6 type ratings. I have 15000+ hours in jets , 10000+ hours in heavy jets - mostly Gulfstreams and currently am a G550 pilot/Chief Pilot. My direct supervisor, you may know was an 0-6 USNA (1983 or 1984) F/A 18 driver call sign QUAG. Great guy to work with. I had a lot of good friends in AOCS 22-89. My son Jake went to Riddle (Commissioned 07MAY18) and was BATT COMM there at ROTC and he, like me got NAMI WHAMMIED because of an eye issue He is currently a LT on the USS St Louis. If any of you see this, particularly Matt Tierney, Gary Snells or Lloyd Cafran (25-89) contact me at : wdnkymdk8813@gmail.com V/R, Mark Kappes Call sign - PSYCHO Hooyah gentleman PS ....knee is still fd up from that morning 0500 evolution at the seawall and currently am in the middle of seeking VA medical benefits.Still flying Gulfstreams around the planet but really wish I could have been downrange with all of you when it hit the fan in 91 and 11SEP01 thru 2017. Thanks for your service.
