Thank you so much for posting! I needed some perspective and you gave some. I really want to be stationed in Asia (preferably South Korea) but I'm sure that chance is slim. But first things first I'm going to have meet my recruiter tomorrow and i sort of know what to expect but I feel like I should ask various questions. What should I ask? Also what do you do on a daily basis? How was boot camp? Since I like the arts, people, and tasks what position should I get into? Lol sorry for all the questions...
@TravelingwithJose8 жыл бұрын
The chances to get stationed there are more slim because they have their own military presence but it's not impossible. Remember you can't always believe what a recruiter says their job is to get you in, sometimes with farfetched information lol If I were you I would just do all the research online and then go see him. Work on your ASVAB and be ready to work. Hope this message isn't too late!

Idk if I should join the navy or not. I have no idea what to study after high school so I don't want to have debt from going to college without a plan. I want to travel the world & live in Japan or South Korea. But I also love my independence & I want to grow on my own terms. Which is why I'm hesitant about joining the military based on its restrictions & lifestyle. Any advice??
@TravelingwithJose7 жыл бұрын
I still don't know exactly what I want to study but now the debt that comes from it, won't be at the back of my mind. When I was in high school I also wanted to live in either Japan or South Korea. I am glad I joined instead of just going straight out there. You'll grow a lot in the military and it'll prepare you for anything else you might have to deal with in life. I was in your place just a few years ago and I don't regret making the decision I made. Just make sure you study for your ASVAB so you don't get stuck with a job you don't like.

Personally I want to go out and do what you said: serve, travel, and experience. I want to be independent, yet I still care about my education. I'm talking to a recruiter on Monday. Any tips? Thanks

Hey Adam, I couldn't reply earlier since I was on deployment but do your research before you go to them. They aren't always looking out for your best interest! Before you go look up all the jobs the Navy offers and make sure you study hard for the ASVAB. I wish I would have joined right after Highschool so don't let the time pass by. I went to community college knowing I didn't want to do it. I just met someone who graduated college 10 years ago and she's still paying off her debt...

@TravelingwithJose8 жыл бұрын
+FunkIzz So first you have to take the ASVAB. Depending on how you score there will be a certain amount of jobs open to you. I believe MC's require a higher ASVAB score. As far as I know the MC rate is a hard one to get into. Many would like to be MC's, including myself but the Navy only has a few spots open for that job. It's really also a game of chance when you go to MEPS. You can get E-3 out of boot camp if you tell your recruiter you have a degree. Make sure he does the paperwork or else you won't get it. Hope this helped, if you have any more questions let me know. Good luck with everything.

Hey I'm looking to join the Army or the Navy, I haven't decided yet I've talked to an Army recruiter and most interesting in 12b combat engineer. I know people in the Navy and they all like it a lot just I don't know that much about it and I've never been on a boat haha. But I want to know how often do you travel places and how often do you go home or come back to America? If there's anything else that's important that you'd like to add in please let me know I'm in 11th grade btw about to be a senior
@TravelingwithJose8 жыл бұрын
+JayTK Depending on your job you might never even see a boat but boat life is crazy. I see different countries every couple of months(just depends on our schedule and my own vacation time) I haven't been home in 2 years but that's because I don't feel the need to go back. I want to visit as many countries as possible. I didn't join until a few months after graduating. I tried the whole going to community college path but it wasn't suitable for me so if you really want to try to go to college, go for it and then weigh your options.

+Erik Alvarez Hey Erik, In the military, at the end of the day the people who you serve with are there to get the job done and do it safely . There is no reason anybody should be treated differently due to age, race, gender, orientation, etc. Now for what I see with people in the lgbt community, they are treated just like anybody else. The other day I saw a poster of a lgbt community club that was created not too long ago.

How do you like you're rate so far?
@TravelingwithJose8 жыл бұрын
+Luis Suarez Personally, I don't like the rate ( a lot of people don't like their rate) but I joined for a myriad of reasons. To travel the world, have a job, build a resume, save money, make new friends, pay for school, learn new skills and get out of my comfort zone.

I'm interested in joining the navy, any help you can give me?
@TravelingwithJose8 жыл бұрын
+Ricardo Romero First off, don't believe everything a recruiter tells you. They are there to do the hard part of getting you in concerning all the paperwork. It's your responsibility to find out what rate(job)you want because one of the most memorable phrases we have is "choose your rate choose your fate". Military.com has a list of all the rates in the Navy. Once you've passed that point and if you have any more questions let me know!
@TravelingwithJose8 жыл бұрын
+Ricardo Romero I'm pretty sure you need at least a GED..but you might be able to get a waiver. Sorry can't give you a good reply, that's a question for a recruiter.
