Nice that you understand that it's a show encompassing all forms of model making. Most of the weathering techniques we use on our train sets have been developed by plastic model builders. We all have so much to learn from other forms of model making.

As someone who has never had the opportunity to attend Warley. Or any exhibition in the UK, I would be stoked for the KMW Live event, I think we should be embracing new and fresh ideas. But hey, people hate change 🤷‍♂️😂 great video Craig, keep well man.

Great video once again you are absolutely correct we as modellers in any genre have never had it so good yes some things are expensive but manufacturers are catering for all scales eras and budgets I for one am excited about the future of our hobby..i will try to make it over the weekend but I am also working so will have to see. I prefer to bring older wagons up to scratch rather than buying the very nice but expensive new models on the whole, but I've bought some Accurascale ones recently too. Nice video mate. Cheers!

I think people need to differentiate between the up-coming Key Model World show, with multi-media modelling, as said railways, R/C, plastic kits etc etc. and the November BRM show which is a DIRECT replacement for the former Warley / N.E.C show.

Good price on the wagons and some good names on them too like the look of your oo layout and I think you should crack on with the n gauge one keep up the good work 👍

im looking forward to the model world show at the NEC going on sunday. The way i see it modeling is modeling weather its modeling train layouts or airfix even if its scalextric we can all learn something from each other.

Hi Craig, the club I am a member of,(Elgin Model Railway Club),holds their Modelfair Show every November, and,as well as railways, there is also ships, aircraft,R.C. trucks wargaming etc, because it was realised that in our area, the interest in railways was not that widespread, and our show has been multi -media for many years now, and is very popular, so I think this new show in Birmingham will prove to be successful, anyway, sorry for filling up your comments section, take care, all the best from Scotland,Stephen.

Hi Craig hope the weekend show goes well. I think its a great idea to hold a multi hobby show. I would like to see more events like these. I cant make it this weekend personally but I will be interested to see the after show videos to see what I missed.

I love the idea of the cheaper Dapol wagons. I do appreciate the level of detail that is now available on models, but I do find them too delicate and as you rightly said, when they’re on the track, you don’t really notice it. I love to improve the appearance of my stock where my level of skill gives me the confidence to do so. I have built a number of the old Airfix/Dapol wagon kits and made them look nearly as good as the more expensive ones. I really enjoy the satisfaction of doing my own thing!

I hope that the new show is a massive success. The fact that there will be more than just model Railways there may encourage modelers from other interests into the hobby. I won't be able to go myself unfortunately. Keep up the good work. Stay safe mate

Re Key Model World show at the NEC. I welcome such a general modelling show albeit with a significant model railway contingent. This is the same model as adopted in Germany for Intermodellbau in Dortmund and the Friedrichshafen show, both of which I have visited more than once in recent years. It’s an excellent way of enabling such large scale shows to survive and thrive. I’m going on Saturday and anticipate the variety to be on show. Bring it on 😄

Hi, great honest video, Dapol have produced some great wagons over the years, what amazes me is the secondhand prices of their older wagons on DreamBay are criminal! They could re-release some of them and make very good money and stop the greedy sellers, I never attended Warley because of the cost to get there, I’m sure there will be other shows that are easier to get to and won’t cost the best part of £50 all in to get there and then get in, 2024 the year of the van wagons, thanks for sharing.

Totally agree - its a model show for all modelling type so looking forward to it. its not a replacement for Warley its something different. Will be great as I am a kit model maker as well so to see both is pretty cool. Am sure the die hards won't like it but for the casual modeller its a great showcase of the breadth of the hobby.

I managed to get a pass from the “senior management” for Sunday, so unfortunately I’ll miss you guys. As for RC diggers etc… having been a member of my local RC club (boats, buggies, crawlers, trucks & diggers) I can assure you, they can make the cost of model railways pail into insignificance 😂😂😂😂😂

Some peoples google-fuu is weak. Warley isn't dead in the slightest. It says on their website that they where going to be running a smaller event in October at the Statfold Barn Railway itself. They also had a stand, again in Statfolds roundhouse, just a few weeks ago announcing the same thing.

Nah! Got enough vans thank you LOL. Glad to see you talking about the Hi-Lo mix I mentioned in the comments the other day ;-) I am surprised how Dapol can produce reasonable wagons as a great price all made within the UK. Compare these with Hornby's railroad, and these still has huge couplings (Dapol uses NEM sockets) and often tooling dating from the 70s (therefore stretched or deformed). BUT the big point is Dapol's are better, cheaper and made in the UK compared to Hornby's railroad wagons. And I do wonder if Hornby should drop those and make their own cheap new wagons in the UK.... Concerning the new show, I was surprised at how quickly they organized this. It might be too soon just after Warley. I wish them success but maybe there was not enough time to get news to potential visitors. In France we used to have a national modelling exhibition near were I live. And it was great to visit. Now be careful, you may come away wanting to build a garden railway, using radio controlled diggers etc and other civil engineering model pieces, and then add a pond to have decent bridge plus allow you to add some RC boats. And why not turn the garden pathway into an aerodrome for an RC spitfire too....

I like those little flat wagons I need to have a few mixed trains I think instead of the constant all the same stuff. Can’t wait to pay this holiday off!! I really hope this show takes off. The whole ethos of my channel is about scale model making and we can broaden our horizons to apply new skills or even just awareness to our own particular topic of interest. First nice to see you’re back to your normal bubbly self. Not bubbly enough to get motivated on the N gauge though 😆. Looking at the OO first time in ages I spotted the disused ferry van being used as a store. How I’ve never noticed that before I don’t know, but it looks fantastic.

I'm attending this weekend with an open and positive mind. Baking powder is a lower cost alternative to using super glue activators. One thing's for sure: there's no room for mistakes when an activator of any description is involved!

If we're being honest, if we're involved in this hobby we all have the active "Inner Child" in us... Keep making the point that enhancing cheaper models should really be what the modelling is about, unless we are lucky enought to have a bottomless pit of cash for all the latest super detailed new stuff. I am looking forward to the key model world show as its not just model railway's highlighted at the show. Its all forms of model making. My uncle said he would be there with his model boats.

Thought it was just me that dreamed of doing garden with RC kit although I did and still do want a tractor with implements. It all makes sense in my head. On KMW show, combining modelling genres is a great idea. I have learned loads from other modellers in different areas. I’m always amazed how many Naysayers (experts) know so little but it never stops them pulling things down. It’s there a special lab where they make them?

Love your attitude towards inexpensive Dapol wagons that might encourage folk to try their hand at detailing and weathering. When I look at the price of some premium wagons ranging from £25-£30, it is no surprise some would prefer not to risk 'damaging' them with their own attempts at weathering. Coming from Newcastle I can only really justify a couple of southern shows. I wish them the best and think it’s a decent idea. For now I’ll keep my powder dry until the BRM show in November as I think it’s really important that the show is a success.

I don't really see the need to Naysay. Mainly because I'm not a horse 😉 But also, modelling in all its forms has a lot of crossover appeal. Some of the techniques used by, say, military modellers would be fantastic on a model railway and some used by the scale diorama modellers would push detail to levels that would put Pendon to shame. It's all about seeing how other branches of modelling get their enjoyment out of the hobby/hobbies and maybe taking a bit of inspiration from them. As to bans lets not gorget that Dapol also does an undecorated version of their vans so you can paint them in your own livery.

New shows are good and I personally think it is a great idea to mix scale modelling and railway modelling - the former certainly has more appeal for me these days.

The new show at the N.E.C. I don't see what people are on about . It's a model show . Well my opinion is modelling is all the same stick things together with glue and painting things making kits etc. So what's the issue. Well it's not just model railways . Good other things to see too . Like it.

The usual negativity from the sado's ( probably no layout) .It will be a fantastic show and hopefully will become a yearly event . Bet these naysayers are the same who said DCC wouldn't work .What happened to that !!!!

I used to go to Brighton Model World show, which is a similar multi-type model show and it was great to see all the models exhibited. Seeing all the different traders as well, which can give you ideas to use their stuff on your particular part of the hobby (r/c, electronics, war gaming..etc). What put me off was when robot wars turned up and took the show over… hopefully they can make a go of this show.

We have one model railwsy show in dublin a year.its had lego groups a model bus crowd.sci fi models and planes rc cars too.these smaller hobbies probably dont have the draw to run a show of their own.we are hobbiests and theres plenty of space for everyone in a show.and if hobbies become elitist and exclusionary its not going to draw new people in.

Dapol could dish them out for free and I would still not take any. I have learnt the very hard way to steer away from Dapol. Thanks but not thanks for Dapol. Great video :)

Morning Craig, I personally think that the Nay Sayer's are wrong, Warley had become worse and worse over recent years. Diversifying the show means that you will, hopefully get a lot more people involved in our wonderful hobby of modelling. Most railway modellers I know also model other aspects of transport and life in general. I'm looking forward to the show on Saturday.

Totally irrelevent to the topic, but the camera is playing weird tricks with that building on the shelf over your right shoulder - It looks as though it has almost survived an earthquake, but has a severe lean - more so than a certain Italian tower! ( not the stack of pizzas, the other one!) - - - Trucks and diggers in 1/72 - there is a company making r/c artics that can drop off and pick up their trailers. I put the link on Jenny's page a couple of months ago, if you want to go digging (sorry!) for it!. - - Show at NEC - it is not much different to the Model Engineering show held at Alli Palli every year, and that is/was always packed, despite it's distant location! So why are people knocking something they have yet to see? - - Have fun at the weekend, and prove the nay-sayers wrong!

So where there was once one show modellers now have two, lost as to why people would moan.

I mean, why NOT have an integrated show? Local society events took a massive hit during the COVID lock downs, so maybe it's a way forward for local societies, too. Also, of course, I bet I'm not the only one with fingers in more than one related hobby pie - just got back into railway modeling, but I also do miniature figure gaming and build the odd model aircraft kit. That's scenery and terrain making and kit bashing in common...I just don't get the where the heads of naysayers are at - we should be swapping ideas and inspiration, materials, giving others motivation and fun. Bring the kids! Heck, if you add in some dolls house making/modeling, I'll bring Mrs. Sexby! I'd go to the show if I could, but no chance, sadly. Cheers for this Craig - be well, mate.
