I love the way intro narrations in the Finals give you context and set the stage for what is to come. I have compiled intros from each year in the 1980s. All credit goes to the NBA on CBS and the sources listed below.
Chapters:
00:00 Lakers vs Sixers (1980 Finals)
01:49 Celtics vs Rockets (1981 Finals)
03:02 Lakers vs Sixers II (1982 Finals)
04:29 Sixers vs Lakers III (1983 Finals)
05:47 Celtics vs Lakers (1984 Finals)
07:06 Lakers vs Celtics II (1985 Finals)
08:24 Celtics vs Rockets II (1986 Finals)
09:42 Lakers vs Celtics III (1987 Finals)
10:58 Lakers vs Pistons (1988 Finals)
12:18 Pistons vs Lakers II (1989 Finals)
13:36 Pistons vs Blazers (1990 Finals)

Anybody who didn't experience these epic intros and by extension these games in the 80's, missed out on so much.

@@blueblur2273 And you're entitled to your opinion also, regardless of how bad it is. But I have to admit, I do miss Marv Albert calling the play-by-play on NBC as well as Dick Stockton and Hubie Brown for CBS Sports. They were very professional and well prepared.

@@willardlockejr2965 I got your back on the NBA on CBS. Some people weren't born or were too young to remember that CBS televised the NBA. The CBS coverage was a part of my childhood in the 70's, my teens and my early 20's. I watched the NBA on CBS from the 1977 NBA playoffs to the very end in 1990(game 5 of the NBA finals).🏀

A quick note, James Worthy did not play in the 1983 playoffs due to a broken leg. I don't know how much difference that makes since he was a rookie.
@blueblur2273
@blueblur2273 11 ай бұрын
Rookies back then usually made immediate impacts. So Worthy would have definitely added an offensive boost and speed to the Lakers offense. But against the Sixers they needed better rebounding and stronger interior defense. These are two things Worthy doesn't provide. With Worthy healthy I see the Lakers possibly avoiding a sweep but still losing in the end.

Larry Bird and Magic Johnson revived the NBA in the 80s going through it problems in the 70s having the nba finals on tape delay

I remember those days…way before the internet. When the finals were taped delayed I can’t remember if the winner was announced or leaked out before the taped game was televised.

@@davidpage3893 I remember those tape delayed days too. CBS was tape delaying the NBA finals too. I stopped watching tape delay once my family got cable TV(Oct, '81). Cable TV had NBA basketball on the USA Network and WTBS-17(Atlanta)would televise Hawks and playoff games(they were the forerunner to TNT) and the original NBA on ESPN.

CBS' last NBA Finals in 1990 (Detroit vs. Portland) came after CBS fired Brent Musburger on April Fool's Day. Pat O'Brien previously did the intro for Game 2 of the 1989 NBA Finals because Brent Musburger was away on assignment at the College World Series.
