It hasn't occurred to me before, but Paul Pierce is a pretty good comp for Luca. I think Luca is ultimately a much better player. But they play/played with the same pace, have the same weird shiftiness, and clutch gene. Luca probably has the better court vision.

While everyone knows that there will never be another Larry Bird, imo, Luka has many similarities with Bird. They both aren’t the most athletically gifted players, but still are sneaky athletic! Both can hit shots from anywhere on the court, both are amazing passers, play good defense, and get rebounds! Luka is literally a walking triple double threat! He’s already #4 in post season history with 6 triple doubles in this post season…Also unlike Bird, Luka plays at the guard position and brings the ball up court basically every position. He gets his teammates involved too! Luka & Kyrie are the best back court in the NBA, if not 1 of the best of all time! He was the NBA scoring champion this season averaging close to 34 points a game, and his career average in the playoffs is 32.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 9.8 assists, he’s averaging almost a triple double in the playoffs! IMO, he’s not getting enough respect from the media. The Mavs will most certainly win the Western Conference finals, considering his team is up 3-0, and we all know that there’s NEVER been a team coming back down 3-0! The Celtics definitely have the most talented team, but the Mavs play better as a team! So I think the Mavs will win the Championship this season because Luka & Kyrie are the best closers in the league, period! As a team they’ve got 47 alley oops, the next closest team has 9…Obviously you’re not going to win a championship with alley oops, but it’s gets the bigs easy buckets, and fires up the rest of the team! If you have watched any of their games, you’d see that on almost every position, they get wide open looks. In Minnesota shots weren’t failing consistently, but in Dallas last night they were! To listen at a lot of the legends, especially MJ speak on Luca is very positive in my opinion. Luca is a scorer , but he also passes the ball. Some of the guys like Gilbert Arenas saying he’s just another James Harding, and James Harden is a pretty good player in my opinion but never been to the finals. Well, I guess you want to throw that out since Luca and Dallas are now in the finals. I think there’s some jealousy there with somebody’s guys. They don’t like seeing a white guy come from Europe dominate like he’s doing. The same way with Nikola Jokić, a great player who doesn’t really care about what people think he should be but he’s everything to his team. That’s what Luca is for Dallas, and he has a guy who won a championship Kyrie Irving, who gives him a lot of helping guidance. I wish my team had him the Los Angeles Lakers instead of LeBron James. But we don’t. So I’m excited seeing him playing the finals against the Celtics. It should be exciting in my opinion. There is too much parity and significant rule changes in today’s NBA to compare players like MJ and Luka. Back in the day, you could use your physicality on defense much more than in today’s NBA. Luka would have the advantage if he could use his size more on defense. MJ was perhaps the most athletically gifted player in NBA history but Luka’s size is something that MJ didn’t have. I see a lot of players in todays NBA that are either great defensive players or great offensive players buy not both and this is in part due to rule changes. I’ve seen Luka play shutdown defense for a whole game so he has the ability to play good defense. I’m sure that his focus on the offensive end does take away from his defense but modern day NBA rules taking his size advantage away plays a part as well.
