There is a lot of players looking back on their career thinking damn I messed up. I should have really taken that deal. Today we look at some NBA players who completely fumbled the bag.

super max contracts were intended to persuade your best superstar player from leaving. super max contracts were not intended for the 2nd best player on your team. think about that for a second. the celtics are fuckin dumb.

80 million in 1997 would make you a top 10 paid player, even if you stretch it out over 8 years, making 10M a year. The whole Joe Smith story is hillarious!😂

I’ve never even heard of Joe Smith. He’s got a pretty generic name so it’s possible I’ve seen him but the fact he had the option to make that money in the 90’s and didn’t is crazy.

@austinneveau9387
@austinneveau9387 11 ай бұрын
@poly_g6068 that's just a bigger problem the nba has in itself. max contracts and bigger contracts are meant for the best players and stars. every overpay hurts the league. brown making 60 mill despite not being the best player on his team. in terms of pure value he might not even be the 2nd most valuable player on that Celtics team. role players and fringe all stars making absurd amounts of money is doing nothing but hurting the sport itself. it's significant gains for player empowerment that's for sure. but yeah I mean how are you gonna afford the mid level guys. how are you planning to construct real depth when you are forced to hand out minimums? not all players deserve to be handed the most they can get. we see overpays every year and then that team wonders why they're struggling to construct a team with so many bad contracts on it.

If I remember correctly, I thought Rich Paul wasn’t Nerlens Noel’s agent at the time of him of him making the suggestion to not take the deal at that party. Then he ended up signing Rich Paul as an agent afterwards. So Noel basically listened to someone that wasn’t his agent at the time. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that’s how the timing of that was.

that 84 million dollar contract for Dennis never existed ..he talked about it extensively in multiple interviews and what he said made sense
@ochomunna270

Damage control, I categorically remember following the negotiations with Laker Nation and they upped the offer then.......Dennis declined it! Then almost immediately started bragging online about not sweating it, he even posted a picture of him, his wife and kid, and his expensive cars(Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini et al) with an exhaustive long note to back up that "top boy talk". Now all of a sudden he's backtracking after the jokes, no buddy. He's got to hold that L! 😂😂

@@ochomunna270 well from what he said they offered him a contract mid season even though they said they would not do that, but a sheet never arrived at his agent...then during the Moratorium his Agent did not call him for ten days ...then suddenly everything changed because of the Westbrook trade ...all the teams already spent their money and the window was closed ....it actually makes sense the Lakers did not offer him 21 mil a year...he is a good player but not a 21 mil player ....now he has the right contract and I am happy for him... I also dont like this hating culture on players cause he isn't negotiating ....the Agents are so his agent basically handed the L to him if he actually declined an offer
@ochomunna270
@ochomunna270 11 ай бұрын
@@kaospat4173 The player has the last say on negotiations and so I call cap on any suggestions he had no final say on the decision. Sorry to break it to you but athletes lie about stuff just as much as anyone, no need to take his word for gospel. It would be the height of incompetence for an agent to call shots over a player's career without their say-so, agents have been fired for less in the past as that's so unprofessional for a mere agent. And criticism of dumb choices don't necessarily mean anyone hates said player, it just means even the average sports fan recognizes a terrible choice when they see one. Nice Dennis got his $25m/2yr deal but that further proves the point, as that pales in contrast to $84m over that length of time and the security it carries. Such deals are termed "bad deals" because once signed the player gets paid no matter where they're traded in the long run. Doesn't matter if he's an $80m player or not, dudes been robbing NBA teams for a long time. NBA got insane money been tossed around because teams do need to spend that money. I'm just saying 🤷‍♂️

"bag fumblers" are what keep the nba going. if everybody went and got a 'bag' like jaylen brown then the league is in trouble. im all for players getting paid but there is only so much money to go around. there have to be players that simply cant be paid extraordinarily high to keep a team functional and able to put out a team of professional basketball players. these teams going so top heavy are gonna be spending minimums on bad players.
