This man was my old Spanish teacher. He was kind, funny, and always entertained us with songs and fun clips to help us learn. Christina was my old PE teacher. She was kind and overall a great person. Best of luck to you Mr. Mauser. I wish you and your lovely children the best possible life you could have. 🙏❤️ Edit: thank you guys for all the support! Wooow. Bumped into this audition yesterday afternoon. Cried a river. Went out in the evening and told the story and the video was uploaded. Dint think l had more tears, but l did. Just now l have been back to watch it and l am still crying. I wish you well Mr Mauser. Hope the kids are doing well and wish you the best. 🙏

It wasn't like an audition. To me, it sounded like he was talking directly to his wife, and I really felt that! That was way beyond a performance, but heart-wrenching. It was painful.

Yup I member that day it happened it was sad that they all lost their lives. Yes it was all that they would say Kobe Bryant n Gigi, I know alot of people were upset because they didn't mention the others names only as the passengers. Its sad either way you look at it cause they're no longer here, may our grandpa(GOD OUR CREATOR) n our dad(Jesus) up above bring them comfort n protection n strength to carry on.

I watched this with my wife and had no clue that I would have the same experience this man had shortly after. I remember she cried, said it was so sad, he was so hurt. I have never been able to watch this since she left us; she caught COVID and was gone four days later. I wish things got better after such a crushing blow, but then 4 months later, our house caught fire; at least I got a chance to follow her advice, save my son, then grab the pictures and everything else we could replace. I can tell you that you are just now going through this, it is hell, but it gets better with time, the hurt is no less, but you learn to live with it.

Idk anyone who only remembers Kobe and his daughter. My first thought was "omg. I hope the other families are compensated, remembered, honored, and have access to counseling bc many lives were just lost and this is traffic for EVERYONE involved." The world is not heartless, it's not bad, and most people have compassion for others. Just bc the ignorant is so loud and the media focuses on that, it doesn't mean that's how life really is. There are so many amazing individuals who felt bad and prayed for all involved.

It is a reminder that not just Kobe and Gianna died. Other families lost loved ones and their grief and pain is just as real. He’s a strong man and I can tell his wife was a beautiful soul. It was so special.

I watched this audition when it aired. And I was stunned. Not only a great artist but an amazing person. When the world lost Kobe Bryant, Matt Mauser lost his world. I can't imagine his pain, nor would I wish it on anyone. I know as a child, losing a parent is arguably the toughest thing to go through.

When he sang that song, he invited everyone listening, to hear him sing that to his wife. He wasn't singing for anyone...or to anyone...except her. He only was there to invite us to listen to him do that. We witnessed real love, not just from the heart, but from the soul...looks like.

Saw this when his audition first came out. Goosebumps. 100000x better than original, hands down. I’ve watched this many times over, just now thought of him again, & showed my 14yr old too. I quit watching for the season when this guy didn't make the judge cuts. Bring back the judge cuts episodes. This guy got robbed. He was more inspirational than anyone else that took that stage, and you did yourself a disservice by not bringing him back. I hope someone gave this guy the recording contract he deserves. I lost all my parents at the age of 8.Currently I am 29 years old..Death didn't stop there. My uncle followed. My elder sister and cousin were next. My grandma left 2011. My aunt left 2020.We are just left 3 people; me and my two siblings. Whenever I listen to this song,my tears😭 just flow endlessly.I have now understood the meaning of being an orphan😔😌

I know your pain, I'm an only child,. I lost my husband and both parents in 2012. I do have 2 son's but still feel lonely. I'm their Rock. I lost my BFF of 60 years in 2121 he was my friend and support. I've been on chemo over 12 years. I was supposed to be the one to die. Not my hubby or BFF.

I can't even imagine how hard it was for him to sing that song. After 15 years of marriage and 3 beautiful children, a year of grieving is just the beginning. No matter what happens, you know she is smiling down on them and that is truly all that matters.

The media almost always refers to them only as the "7 others" when we hear about that horrific helicopter crash. I appreciated hearing the story of Christina and her beautiful family, they should always be named so that we can remember their lives as well.

The fact the accident happened right before the pandemic so his family had to face their grief while in quarantine makes me really sad. So happy to see him following his dream tho

This man was my old Spanish teacher he was one of my favorite teachers and he would always sing to us and play games with us he was always so cheerful, this song made me so sad because I know them and my whole family feels that pain. love to his whole family ❤️

Matt was my teacher back when he taught at our elementary school. We're all very tight knit in that community, with a small class size that is kinda forced to become family. He was the best kind of teacher to have around, & his wife Christina was the best form of support through my years K-12. They're the most genuine family. He brought his guitar into class EVERY day and played our worries away with fun songs in spanish. Christina was so special and it's still so hard for me to believe she was gone. She helped me through some of my darkest days in my developmental years. I'm so happy to finally see him on a stage shining, where he truly belongs. To put a time on it, I'm 23 years old now and this was way BACK when i was in kindergarten! He is so deserving of this success, and I'm sending all my love and support to his family ❤️

I know this song is about separation, but rather due to a broken relationship.. Never thought it can be sung as expression of missing your loved one due to death.. And when the lyrics said "you're coming back to me is against all odds...", damn, it has deeper meanings than before...

Right! I’ve always loved this song, but hearing his story, his voice, his emotions.. Omg! He definitely brought a new meaning to this song. I felt every single word. It’s like for a moment I felt his pain & also his love for his wife. He took us into his world, if only for a brief moment. Everyone doesn’t have the ability to do that.

This man really is strong and the son is trying his hardest to hold his emotions within himself & he’s hurting bad. Oldest is staying strong not only for the little one but for her dad. Baby doesn’t know nothing just knows her mom won’t be coming back. This is so sad I’m beyond happy for them for accomplishing things & living life to not forget to have fun & make memories happy. Grief is hard it won’t get better at all but it’ll get easier to control I’ve learned that. Happy for you sir! Keep it going for them

He plays in a local-band called Tijuana Dogs and also does Sinatra era music. He really is very talented, this was an emotional audition that didn’t show his range but you will see his talent in the next rounds.

It’s sad to think that no one knew who he was when he introduced himself. After the accident I never saw anything about his wife or his family. His wife deserves to be remembered just as much as Kobe and Gigi.

What one hell of a man and father. He is a pillar of strength and faith. I sent this to my son's. His wife is with him always and so proud of him. I know you see and feel her in your kids.
