Officials say Native Americans are victims of a scheme targeting vulnerable tribal members fighting substance abuse. Recruiters have lured people from their reservations to illicit addiction treatment homes, but officials say, instead of receiving help, many have wound up dead or missing. Liz Kreutz reports more on the massive insurance scheme.

to the title of this pandering piece: WHO ISN'T victimized by "insurance" it is taken from the mobs playbook, Car insurance for example: as someone who has never had an accident, a polite, watch more than just my nose ...driver, and pedestrian as well, ALL MY LONG LIFE, yet , my insurance goes up constantly, WHAT IS BEING DONE, nothing, it's just in a computer system set up to increase the rate, NO HANDS ON for much of anything.

I really hope this doesn't end up another white collar crime where the rich pay a bit of their time and money and go back home to enjoy most of their ill-gotten money. I hope those who were targeted get back their money and that they get the treatment they want on the dime of those who victimized them, as much treatment as they need from wherever they want it !!

It seems like they made enough money that they can draw out the legal proceedings forever. I imagine they are commiting many other crimes as well they will get caught up for. More concerning is that the government gave them millions of dollars to ruin peoples lives year after year.

I watch interviews of Native American homeless people who have substance abuse issues and they never receive the services. The scammers also use non N.A. homeless persons and sign them up as such who don't get the services either. This is been going on for a long time.

Omg that's horrible so many people missing & never getting the substance abuse treatment that is much needed. I wish I could help them out because I am a full blooded Native Alaskan and I am a recovering alcoholic and substance abuse and I have been sober 14 years and yes it is hard but I have only 1 day at a time.

OMG! It is absolutely heart breaking to see anyone defrauded or taken advantage of, but especially when it affects so many within specific populations.💔😔However, it seems that the crimes and abuse of these indigenous populations as a whole goes much further as they are never properly investigated or truly resolved. It is only when these crimes affects the defrauding of state or federal funding does one see any kind of news coverage. There are thousands of indigenous women that are murdered or go missing every day where little is ever publicized or given the attention they deserve.😢 I pray every day for love, compassion, and justice for the Indigenous Native American people of this country and around the world as the crimes that are constantly perpetrated against these vulnerable populations are horrendous and just continue to perpetuate generational trauma throughout their cultures. 😢🙏🏻❤️ I just hope and pray a proper and thorough investigation is done where these criminals are found and prosecuted to the full extent of the law where these families are able to have some closure in finding their missing loved ones.🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️

Did you know Natives were the last to free their black slaves? The US Calvary forced them because they had their own laws since they had their own nations.
