Charlie is right. The debate is ridiculous. It takes time and commitment to reach the highest level in any sport. How many athletes could walk on the pro golf tour? Or hit a curve ball circa MJ. @@tacotom3492 You are missing the point. It's much easier to be an NBA player, especially if you're really tall. Regardless of skills, you're automatically given consideration. There are guys on playgrounds right now who are better than some NBA players. If you're a hooper, you know it's true. Football, like baseball, is not a pickup sport. No way to simulate a football game in the real world, unlike high-level competitive basketball that's played in every gym in the world. High-level football is different however, baseball is by far the hardest. NBA is tough but come on.

Charlie Ward won the Heisman, the best honor that a college football player can win. He was essentially the best non-nfl football player at that time, entered the draft and had a solid career where he didn’t even average 10 points, and won no real accolades. Meanwhile, you have dudes like Antonio Gates that never played football in college yet had a hall of fame worthy NFL career. First, the NBA and NFL are so different. While each has players that could be role players in the other leagues, no player would be a star. Even Jimmy Graham would never have been a star in the NBA. However, a better metric of the better athletes is how they would translate to other sports. Case in point, the best athletes of all time are football players, i.e., Deion, Bo Jackson, Jim Brown, Julius Peppers, Frank Thomas. No NBA player, other than Wilt, excelled at other sports.

Their ragging on Austin Rivers but finding an Antonio Gates is more likely than finding a college Football player who makes to the NBA (without playing). … The most telling point is that: Moss, Charlie Ward, Deion, Bo, Antonio Gates, Julius Peppers, Jim Brown’s best sport was Football. Athleticism directly translates to success in Football more than anything other sport except for track. Hence Jim Thorpe, Bob Hayes & Jackie Robinson were all multi sport athletes who’s second best sport was Football.
@EricA-kl7by
@EricA-kl7by Ай бұрын
@@cedricbeard4609 Generally speaking your point is valid. The flip side is that all those guys you mentioned already had a football mentality. And having that mindset is generally what makes them capable of even competing at the highest levels of any other sport. Because every other sport outside of football is just about a particular skill that needs specific development. It doesn't mean football is the easiest because any track guy can't run routes or catch, and any basketball player can't tackle or block. None of those things mean you have to be tough. But you do have to have the skill and willingness to do it well just like hitting a curve ball. Football produces more athletes in dual sports because it prepares more athletes to play any sport. That's why you don't see any basketball players trying to run track at professional levels or play baseball. Point is that once you have the mentality for football you can translate that more easily to developing a skill in baseball, basketball, track, wrestling, etc.
@cedricbeard4609

@@EricA-kl7by and I not only agree, but I’ll go one step further; I kickbox and Basketball players are hit & miss, but Football players had the “toughness” factor. I think it’s quite telling that Nate Robinson was a better HS Football player & he had the toughness to get in the ring with Jake Paul.

@@ElectricLettuce1 Moss was Mr Basketball in West Virginia his Jr & Sr years. Moss was chosen over Jason Williams. Jason has said in interviews that Moss was their leading scorer and star. D Wade didn’t have a deadly outside jump shoot either. Allen Iverson was arguably better at Football and he played both point & shooting guard.

He also had to lose that football weight of about 10 lbs of muscle before he was highly effective so around February he was a fully contributing member of the big 3 fsu had with Bob sura (now a professional poker player) and Sam Cassell. It was a fourth person on that team that had a cup of coffee in the nba and he was nice too. The NFL wanted him to for go his senior basketball year to show his commitment to football but was still mocking him to be a 3rd to a 5th round pick so he told them not only am I playing basketball but you need to draft me in the 1st round in order for me to play. 3rd to 5th round pick meant significantly less money with no real guaranteed money while basketball was all guaranteed money and longer career. The sad thing is Charlie was not a run first qb so them suggesting he switch to WR was disrespectful af. Meanwhile, the guy that went #1 in that draft was Drew Bledsoe who chose to sit out his senior year to train for the prod which in my opinion should have been a red flag. He didn't want to play his senior year cause Washington state lost talent to graduation and he didn't want their potential lack of success to effect his draft stock.

Charlie Ward, Heisman in football, no NBA awards, no All Stars, no Chips, no All NBA teams. Flipside, Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, average basketball players, Hall of Fame NFL careers, stop this y'all, this conversation is a waste of time.

Dan Patrick SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF! HE KNOWS CHARLIE WARD WAS HELD OUT OF THE NFL FOR BEING "TOO SMALL" 😉. I'll stop there....Dan is lacking. 🤢
