NC 9 'The Sidewinder' Fall Mountain Drive in the COBRA

The 18-mile stretch of NC 9 from Bat Cave north to Black Mountain has been designated as a North Carolina Scenic Highway. It is known as 'The Sidewinder' in the motorcycle community, along with many other scenic and curvy roads in the NC mountains having nicknames like 'Tail of the Dragon.' In addition to the scenery, it is a hilly and twisty route with some steep grades. Come along with me in the Mustang COBRA and check out this amazing fall day in Western North Carolina's mountains!

I really enjoyed this beautiful scenic drive this evening! Love the fall 🍁🍂🌾🍂🍁 colours and the mountains ⛰! That last scene of the cobra and the orange tree was amazing! Thanks for taking us along!!!

I liked the map in the beginning you put up, thank you. The trees are so pretty MMM. I enjoyed looking at them especially because the tree’s are all naked this time of year. That golden tree towards the end was simply gorgeous! Thanks for taking us along on the trip in your Cobra, which sounded great by the way! Be safe.

The COBRA was roaring through the mountains for sure! I also appreciated seeing some fall color albeit late as everything is brown on the trees currently. Thanks for watching!

You had that Cobra shined up and looking good. The fall is such a beautiful time of the year to be in the mountains. I think my favorite colors are the red but I also really like the very bright orange. When the trees are different colors in a row ,that is when it is really pretty, like red, yellow green then bright orange all beside each other. I enjoyed the ride and all the beautiful colors.

Btw beautiful drive, we love the yellow trees the most, those drives are awesome (as long as it's daylight.... Nighttime is a whole different story!)

Very nice drive. It was so colorful. It would be so fun to have some roads like that in my area to drive the camaro but there aren't really. I need to drive it down there sometime. Great video as always!

Yeah this was nice as it was closer to Asheville and a little less aggressive like, 'Tail of the Dragon.' It's a nice peaceful ride through the countryside, and cool stuff to do in Black Mountain, NC at the end. Thanks for checking it out Larry!

Great looking car Great road to drive. Awesome video all but the t-shirt, I am a Browns fan. Funny one day I was in Pittsburg and got lost so I pulled over to ask a guy on the street for help. He looks at me and told me with his finger that I was number one and walked away. I found out the reason why when I got to my hotel. I had on a Brown's hat.

Your maps were awesome 👍 I feel like I have a good idea where you're at. When you started to talking about those apples🍎 and the Apple festival I started thinking about those Apple donuts.🍎🍩 One of these days.

what a beautiful drive thanks for this video....will be driving this very road on Saturday....I am a little concerned about the drop offs and non-existent shoulders....to say nothing of driving it at night....any advice or guidance? thanks again...MMM!!!!

Hello glad you enjoyed the drive! Maybe it's because I live here but I did not feel that this particular drive was too dangerous. I didn't drive it in the dark, but it felt safe to me during the day. As always just drive a reasonable speed and avoid it if there is snow or ice and prefer the major highways. Thanks for watching!
