Hands down the best video explaining the Nce Cab for new comers
@vonshlep5451 Жыл бұрын
instead of dcc or dc I pull my trains along with a length of filament and make all the noises verbally. when my wife asked what in the hell I was doing I told her the price of going DCC and she became a keen supporter of this method

Thanks for this video - visuals and explanation are easy to understand. I'm not very tech-savvy, and I was able to understand the basics and hook up my NCE PowerCab in just a few minutes. I'm enjoying it a lot!

I'm planning on switching from DC to DCC later on this year, once I get some DCC engines. Thanks for this tutorial! Plus i saw it was hooked up to the EZ Track when programming the switcher. Will it work well in that way?

Yep, it will work fine with EZ Track.

The wires at 1:05, where did you get them bro?
@christopherbecker25123 жыл бұрын
I'm kind of new to DCC. If you buy this NCE PowerCab DCC starter set, do you have to run NCE boards in your engines? or can you use other brands too, such as Digitrax?
@bchobbies3 жыл бұрын
DCC standards are universal, so any brand of decoder will work with any brand of DCC system.

I’m looking at putting this on my layout. How far is the range on the power? I’m looking at a 4x8 with another 2x6 section for a port. Do I need a power booster to power all the rails or is the power sufficient?
@bchobbies2 жыл бұрын
I think a layout of that size should be OK without a booster, unless you're running lots of engines at once. My current layout is 7 by 8 feet and has no issues with the basic power supply. I usually run no more than 2 trains at a time.

I’m really new, I bought an Aristocraft G scale Locos with no sound. If I get his DCC can I add a module to my old loco?

Yes, you can add DCC to older locos. Depending on how old it is, it may require some soldering.

Is it possible that you may show how you wired your layout? I'm working on my own DCC layout and some tips and examples of wiring would be great.
@bchobbies3 жыл бұрын
DCC wiring is pretty simple - for a small layout, you only need one pair of wires going to the rails. This layout has since been dismantled, but that's essentially how it was set up. On a larger layout, it's a good idea to run multiple sets of feeder wires at regular intervals, since voltage drop can be a problem over long distances of track.
@bchobbies2 жыл бұрын
@Bill Chisholm I haven't had the opportunity to try either of the the boosters yet, unfortunately, so I can't offer any advice there.
@gerardartale63982 жыл бұрын
Hi are you saying that all I need is that one connection to run my hole layout?
@bchobbies2 жыл бұрын
For a relatively small layout, yes. If you've got a very long distance of rail, voltage drop can become a problem, in which case it's a good idea to run several sets of feeder wires. It's still only one connection to the DCC system, though.
@couchpuppy14702 жыл бұрын
My power cab was missing the plug with the screw terminals any idea on where I can get that part?
@bchobbies2 жыл бұрын
I would try writing to NCE directly. If it was missing from the factory, they may be able to send you a free replacement.

Will this work with Kato's HO scale unitrack?
@bchobbies Жыл бұрын
Yes, it will work with any 2-rail track system.
@russcole5685 Жыл бұрын
I see at the start of your video you showed a piece of EZ track, it's obvious that it will work with any track that will carry current, the question I have is though. As I. Looking to change from my Bachmann DCC EZ Command controller, will this unit operate the EZ Command DCC turnouts
@bchobbies Жыл бұрын
Yes, it should operate them fine. Bachmann says their DCC turnouts are compatible with all standard DCC systems.
@russcole5685 Жыл бұрын
@@bchobbies yes, they say that, I have the cheap basic Hornby DCC controller as well. I can't control the DCC turnouts with that either. I have a fue TamValley singlets that I've used to convert manual turnouts to DCC, I can control them with the Hornby, but not the Bachmann. I'm having a great deal of problems finding out what channel, CV the Bachmann DCC turnouts operate on. The work under Loco address 9 on the EZ Command controller. But I have no idea what that translates to as an accessory address
@bchobbies Жыл бұрын
@@russcole5685 Hmm. I'm afraid I've got nothing to offer there - I haven't had a chance to mess around with the Bachmann DCC turnouts myself.

How did you set the address of the loco to 6? Not on the controller but I mean the actual loco itself. Nice video btw
@bchobbies3 жыл бұрын
There are a couple of different ways, which the PowerCab manual covers well. It's a bit too involved to explain in a KZfaq comment, but not difficult at all. You can read an online copy of the manual here: www.dccconcepts.com/manual/nce-owners-manual-powercab-handset/

I just found u. What do u think is the best or are they pretty much the same. There's MTH DCS system. MRC PRODIGY with wifi so u can run on your phone and then NCE. I run g scale 7 engines for now. I just started thank you.
@bchobbies Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't bother with the MTH system unless you're running only MTH locomotives. I haven't had a chance to try out the Prodigy system, so I can't compare it directly, but I would say the NCE is a safe bet.
@MarkTheLostTraveler Жыл бұрын
@@bchobbies I was looking at this one and you do switching from this or no. NCE #524006 PH-10 DIGITAL COMMAND CONTROL STARTER SETS - 10 AMPS FOR O/G SCALE. Thank you.
@bchobbies Жыл бұрын
@@MarkTheLostTraveler That system is the more powerful version of the PowerCab for larger scales. If you're running O scale or larger, it would be perfect. For HO or N scale, it's a bit overkill.
@aidan_sterlingg3 жыл бұрын
Does go from buttons 1-20?
@bchobbies3 жыл бұрын
Functions 1 through 10 are accessible directly using the buttons. There's a way to set up the function keys to access the higher-numbered functions using the Option key, which is explained in the manual. It goes up well past 20.
@chrisshonamon88802 жыл бұрын
How many trains can you put in that?
@bchobbies2 жыл бұрын
The included power supply is rated at 1.3 amps, which should be enough to run several HO scale locomotives at once. The exact number will vary by how much current each one draws. If you want to run more trains at the same time than the included supply can handle, you can buy a 5 amp booster from NCE.

@bchobbies Жыл бұрын
Yes, this system works with any scale. For O or G scale, you may need a beefier power supply, but it will work with N scale out of the box. In fact, we currently have an N scale display layout in the shop window that runs on a PowerCab.

No, unfortunately, there is no mode for DC. My layout has a master toggle switch that connects the whole layout to either the PowerCab or a standard DC transformer.
