In the past year, up to 5,000 chain stores across the UK have reportedly closed down after not making their profit margins. A growing cost of living crisis and a change in consumer trends have created a perfect storm. Lape Olarinoye has more.

The UK 15 minute streets where you dont have to drive anywhere, you can get anything you want in 15 minutes from your local is complete BS. nobody can afford to run a shop because the rents and rates (your basic overheads are too high). Often with shop premesis you have to sign long leases and given that most businesses fail within a year its a big risk to sign a 3 year lease for a shop. we need rent controls for both resdiential property and commercial property and this archiac business rates need to go away. Businesses should be taxed on their profits not on their tenancy!

Papa johns is dead to me. I used to have their pizza a lot. But as prices went up they reduced the quality of their ingrediants massivelty. It doesnt taste as good. Even my kids noticed it. my 5 year old would sometimes have 3 slices before. Now she just has one and doesnt seem to want more.

There's a simple solution to this problem and its a 2 way street. Fund the economy that helps the public so they can economise the country and in turn the gov gets the cut from the taxes the public worked that will be happy to do. Instead the public are trying to maintain the facilities while the gov are busy funding wars with the tax payers money. Its not a 2 way street anymore. People are working way too hard and the gov are not giving back to the public.
