Today we’re looking at the all in one podcast studio in a box, the Neat Beecaster. This is a usb microphone with a built in boom arm. It offers multiple polar patterns. Cardioid and Multiple Stereo settings and a mid forward, smooth sound. The main drawbacks of this microphone are the headphone amp the inability to remove the microphone from the stand, and some wiring issues that cause a hum if you touch the microphone’s grill.

I got this extremely cheap off eBay and yes you're right about the headphone amp and the ground hum issues. It's kind of a toy/novelty really I guess... But damn the XLR mics in the line are serious studio mics. I have a pair of both the King Bee and Worker Bee (got all on extreme discounts) and they are freaking awesome. Sound amazing and very low self noise.

I'm new to this channel and already, I can see that this guy is a true audiophile and knows his stuff, but I have My own take on this mic. For beginners, this mic is honestly the way to go. The form factor is about all you'll need for a home or office studio and the headphone fuzz can be edited out later. It's a solid unit. The build quality is sturdy and you won't have to worry about accidental drops, due to the metal framing. It's simple design and basic functionality, coupled with its lowered price point, make it a go. It'll get the job done, for sure.

Yet another great vid! HA I can tell from the beginning you were in LOVE! These Bee products have been pennies on the dollar since parent company (Gibson) went into chapter 11 and Skipper Wise (formerly Blue Mics) purchased the his 'Neat' brand back from Gibson. The King Bee (transformer coupled LD condenser) was also 350, now around a hundred bucks. Sounds pretty great and turns out it has the same FR as the old Blue Reactor in its main cardiod setting. Sorry if you already know all this...lol
@Podcastage
@Podcastage 4 жыл бұрын
I didn’t know that neat was at one point owned by Gibson. I have the king bee and can’t wait to try it because I think this mic has some decent characteristics, and can’t wait to hear it without the drawbacks of usb.

I have the NEAT King Bee (XLR cardioid large capsule condenser) and it's pretty fantastic for the price IMO. The whole line seems to be deeply discounted. My only objection to the King Bee (also applies to the Worker Bee) is that the only mounting option is the unique shock mount included. It's really nice but I have no idea what I'm going to do when the rubber bands inevitably rot. I thought this actually sounded pretty nice for a USB. I thought it sounded more natural than the Yeti. Too bad about that headphone amp, perhaps it was defective? My objection is the fixed desk mounting. I would much prefer some way to mount it on a scissor arm or boom arm. For the record, NEAT was founded by some ex-Blue guys and the King Bee seems to be identical to the Blue Reactor in cardioid mode, the Worker Bee is the Blue Spark in new clothes and this is their Blue Yeti competitor. They were owned by Gibson for a while but I think the founders managed to buy the company back when Gibson ran into financial trouble.

That humming-when-touched thing seems to be pretty common with condensers. The AKG P420 and MXL 770 both do it as well. Interestingly, with both of them it only happens when touching the body... if you hold it by the grill, no hum.

Seems not bad. Just the headphone noise issue and grounding hum issue. I like the all in one usefulness for those that don't have a full studio and just need voice and interviews. It's hard to find a cheaper stereo mic! I still may get it but I'll look more into the yeti too.

Podcastage it would be hilarious if they were to increase the price after you review it and people are jumping on it. It’s odd that it has been out for a while but it seems that no one is doing reviews on it. I’ve only seen a handful of overviews and two comparisons but none as thorough as you would have done it. I feel like the industry as a whole just don’t want to accept that mic can be reasonably priced and still sound good. Can not wait to hear the comparisons!

Not a fan of the odd microphone shape. If you want or need a windscreen, it railroads you into using their oddly-shaped rectangular windscreen rather than a generic one you can buy. Zero click on mute button test is very good. That's actually quite uncommon. There's almost always some kind of small click, even if it's not horrendous. Overall, desktop mount is less than ideal for noise transmission from keyboard or other things, but that's something one is going to have to deal or live with when going with one of these 'all-on-one-interface-microphone-boom' solutions. Thanks for the video and work.

Interesting design and concept, but has a huge footprint on the desk. And the "clunk" sound transmitted from the base to the microphone when muting is unacceptable. It seems the microphone element is hard mounted and has no shock absorption built in. It did do surprisingly well suppressing plosives though, even without the wind screen. Why would you be getting a 50 cycle hum? Are you in Europe? If you want a decent compact budget USB stereo condenser mic for podcasting check out Samson Go Mic ($30) and Go Mic Connect ($30). I use both these microphones for my internet radio shows.

Yikes! If not for the noise floor, Beecaster sounds better than the BLUE yeti (on Bandrew's voice). Wouldn't have expected much out of it.

Podcastage ok thanks! I’m looking for a nice mic arm that doesn’t destroy the budget

@@GnogginGnome Ah. The OC White will destroy your budget. Ha. It's stupidly expensive. The Rode PSA1, Heil PL2t are good options. But I have also had some luck with the Neewer boom arms, although the external springs can be very noisy if you bump them.

Podcastage yeah I do actually have a Neewer boom arm but it’s quite loud

the main reason it said that it had been marked down so much was probably just for marketing,

Did anyone else get a laugh out of the mute button test. Bandrew leaned in and got the angry face going. All I can think is...here is the section everything that would get him demonized goes. 🤣🤣🤣

The amount of expletives I yelled while the microphone was muted would make George Carlin blush. But no demonetization for me thank you.

What a strange-looking product. Looks at the price, its how much :O ??!!! £170?? Could buy a Blue Yeti or better yet an interface and decent XLR mic for that money.

Yeah. The $350 regular price is just.....ummm...not a good price.

I thought it sounded quite pleasant. For the price, if you consider it basically includes a DAC for $100 its something I'd consider. But already having a Behringer UMC22, I'm leaning more toward the $50-80 Dynamic or Condenser. I've got a Floureon BM-800 and a Samson Q2U already. And I'm not doing anything professional.

Don't buy these popular microphones. Get these instead.
