Ned Kelly, the original iron man. His last stand at the age of 25 has become legendary. An outlaw who became a cultural icon for Australia, personifying the pluckiness of the Australian people. We're very sorry to all Australians for our narrator's terrible Aussie accent. Please forgive us and consider supporting us on patreon. / yarnhub

When Kelly was around 10 years old, he saved another boy from drowning in Hughes Creek. The boy's family gave him a green sash as a thank you, and he'd treasure it for the rest of his life. He wore it underneath the armor during his last stand. The sash is now on display in a seperate museum, and it still has tiny bits of Kelly's blood on it.

That is true they had received word that a posse of police officers were after them and made armour out of old farm plows then held up in the hotel. Once police arrived a gunfight broke out and some of Kelly's gang were killed. In the end Kelly towards the police and shot as he walked taking bullets in his arms and other unprotected parts of his body. Only a close range shot gun blast finally incapacitated him. He was tried for murder and hung in the old Melbourne Gaol. His remains were buried in a mass grave along with 33 other prisoners at the time. A display of a skull beside his helmet was falsely believed to be his until his actual body was discovered.

There's another story, from the Great War; some Anzacs boozing in a French bar were getting pretty sozzled, and fed up with the war, which they blamed on the Pommies. One of them, at the top of his voice, yelled "Oh, to hell with bladdy King George." Dead silence - all heads turned, waiting for trouble to begin. Then a Tommie responded - "And to hell with Ned Kelly too!" And, honour satisfied, peace broke out and everyone went back to drinking........

Thanks for covering a very interesting part of Australian history! I loved the animation and how immersed I felt watching it. However you did miss out on the tragedy of how the other men of the Kelly gang perished. Also, various accounts differ on what his last words were, though it would've been epic nonetheless. I hope to see more fun history videos!

Even early flintlock rifles made armour irrelevant so for this to of had that much of an effect must of been down to numerous reasons: - We can see the real armour has approximately 6-8 bullet wounds that did not penetrate from the front. - The armour must of been considerably thick and heavy to have stopped these shots limiting his ability to move at speed for prolonged time. - The kinetic force would have still travelled through not enough to kill him but possibly causing internal damage, if not enough force then this probably leads to the next point. - The police must have been using lower stopping power guns and ammunition, also they must have taken the shots from some distance for the outcome on the armour and for it to not have penetrated or had much effect with some potential missing or getting a glancing shot. - Claims to be 18 gun shot marks. For the armour to weigh 44kg at a quarter of an inch thick which depending on the metal or variety of them used in it's construction and the angel on impact for the fire arms used at the time is believeable considering most modern standards for rating bullet protection via metal come close in measurements but are tested with more modern calibre guns. -I think it's fair to say that most of the shots probably just missed their mark considering the conditions as it went down. Ironically some part of this might go down to the fact that early rifles whilst with many flaws were very powerful in stopping power capable of breaking clean through bone and then some. Later guns made for higher fire rates and small arms were even seen to take multiple shots to kill people in many accounts which was something that helped move US from their early revolvers to the 1911 gun used throughout history. Sorry for the ramble and thank you for the great video as per your quality in these productions always shows.

Scientists did tests on the Armour in a Nuclear Reactor to find out it was made using Bush Forge at around 750°c using recycled steel from farming equipment such as ploughs, the armour was thick and heavy, it was reported of hearing one of the Men in the Gang saying that the Armour would be the death of them as it was too heavy
