Need For Speed 3 in Unreal Engine 5 (original models)

One of my recent projects porting the old NFS3 Hot Pursuit (1998) levels into UE5.
For the 3D conversion I used various NFS modding tools and some Houdini and Python.
I barely started working on it. The current "working" levels:

EA should understand that NFS was always about beautiful dream-like locations, sexy cars and fast driving . No city gang races, speedcameras and other crap which made the series far from the roots.

too bad that era sold better than what you are on about. Most Wanted 2005 alone sold 16 million copies while Nfs3 sold 1.7 million. most wanted sold more than the entire classic NFS series combined.

Personally I loved both. Hot Pursuit was an incredible arcade racer, but Most Wanted and all that were incredible games for exploration, street racing, car customisation, game progression etc. There is room for both.

That’s because we know that NFS 2022 would suck (because EA’s last like 2 games have been so bad, that it pretty much killed any hype that NFS 2022 will be at least as good as NFS Heat, as well as the recent leaks possibly hinting at microtransactions/in game credit are going to be in NFS 2022). Of course the NFS community would be going back to the best games in the series and making fan remakes of them.

People seem to hate on 1990's and 2000's games because of their graphics. Whee NFS III: Hot Pursuit released in 1998, people thought the graphics looked better then NFS II. Now people hate the original game graphics because they wish Unreal Engine 5 existed back then? I swear when Epic Games first showcased Unreal Engine 5, people start hating older games from the 1990's and 2000's. People seem hate all games when they age. People in 1998: "Wow look at those graphics! Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit look better than the previous game" People in 2022: "God those graphics are outdated, I can't believe Unreal Engine 5 didn't existed back then"

Yeah, 1998 teenage kid here, we were blown away by NFS3 as it was, it was state of the art tech and it showed... reflections, Raindrops, whirling leaves.... of course this looks stunning but it was a beast back in the days... not even mentioning the artwork and the music... I still play it occasionally...

I bet you people now hate old games. You all probably saying to yourself "I can't believe Unreal Engine 5 didn't existed in the 90's" I swear when new games gets released with better graphics, people start to hate old games because of their graphics haven't change. Well, I have news for you all, game developers had limited technology back then. Now it seems like people bash on the developers back then for not using Unreal Engine 5 which didn't existed.

@@automation7295 This would fix some engine bugs from EA's engine, it allows custom tracks more comfortable, it even would allow to use VR. Maybe he should make an entire new game instead, but totally in the classic nfs era style. Because EA wont do.

Pre underground was the real golden era , showcases , supercars with 1m € of value , beautiful circuits and amazing soundtrack. In 2010 the unique NFS With classic style and my favorite NFS.

Remaster a 24 year old game? It's impossible or very hard to remaster a game made for PS1. They could just remake, it's easier than a remaster.

@@MrCountach01 It's not really possible or very difficult to remaster old game, especially when they're made for PS1. Old codings and everything has to be rewritten. It would've better option to just remake the game from scratch.

Had the original in 1998, played it on a Voodoo 2 card and CRT display. Back then the graphics of NFS3 were beyond anything I've seen before. I would love to see this project turning out in a complete game.

While the novelty of a big city hyped people with the tuner era, what was lost was the personality of each map, that IMHO were as much as one of the "characters" in the game, much like the cars. Each map with a distinctive look, feel and atmosphere to the point where you knew them like the back of your hand as mastering them like the cars was part of the gameplay and each felt different from the other. I miss those touches.

I love NFS III ! Still play it today using modern patch by Veg (Evgeny). I hope you'll consider open sourcing this project. This has inspired me to dive into development with Unreal Engine in hopes of contributing pull request to port this fan remake for android.

My words as a player since 1985 can only tell you David Kerekes that is the most impressive thing I have seen, I would love to help in the project, but you must already have many behind doing it, however, I would pay for your work, since NFS3 is my game favorite car game, but seeing what happens with intellectual properties, let's hope EA doesn't get upset, since the game was abandoned like many others, which deserve a new facelift, this game fully deserves it, you have my support and my money, not to buy the game, for the copyright, but to support your work, so they don't tell me you're committing a crime, for playing an abandoned game. !!!Congratulations, you finished first on this lap!!!

DUDE. If one (mighty) developer like yourself were given the fiscal resources from EA to do a steam / PS4 / PS5 port for this game, you could seriously sell the crap out of this! You've just proven that their overhead would be so low since you can do all this amazing work as an individual.. imagine that scaled with EA's budget! On top of the outstanding camerawork and lighting you have done thus far, imagine a few new voiceovers for the cops, enhanced car and environment models (Could literally borrow a lot of them from NFS HP 2010) and perhaps revive the online servers, it'd be amazing! If you do finish this and put it on sale, I'll be sure to buy it! Thank you for the trip down memory lane :)

The section around 40-50 seconds in, driving towards the sunset reminds me a lot of the game Motorhead, it came out around the same time as NFS3.

Wow! I really played the original game A LOT (more so on PC than on the PS1 though but I have both) and it was great. Seeing it now in UE5 is pretty awesome!
