This song always reminds me of my children, I went through a bad divorce in 2017, I went downhill fast, making fast money and lost in drugs and drinking. End up in jail facing prison time with a strike, my ex wife found out I started going to church and seeking God, she threatened me to take full custody and never let me see my kids because of my criminal history if I didn’t leave the church. Times of shedding tears and fighting for a new life. I stuck through it, overcame my court case without a day in jail, left a life of smoking weed, using cocaine and meth along with drinking and an empty life to a fulfilled and truly happy life. When no one believed in me, not even my family, I found Someone who did. Now I’m a youth pastor and share my story to anyone who is searching for a way out, no matter how difficult it seems or what you seem to be losing for fighting for a new life, keep going, even if you shed tears of pain in the process, keep going. “Sorrow may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning”. I've been trying to find this song for YEARS. I have this vivid memory from when I was nine that revolves around this song and I remembered the melody , but never the words. My mom, my little sister (7) and I (9) were pulling up to the laundromat but this song was on so we stayed in the car to finish singing the song. There was an elderly homeless man that sat outside of the building and he listened to us sing the song. When we got out of the car he asked us what the song was about to which we replied that it was a song to remember no matter how hard or bad life may get, God's got us. And now ten years later I FINALLY FOUND THE SONG AND I REALLY NEEDED IT TODAY. God's still got my back.

Eight years ago I was in a Hobby Lobby when I first heard this song. I had been feeling lost and far from God for many years and I remember stopping in the middle of the store and just bursting into tears. I kept the words of the song in my heart as I, once again, started looking for a church, a place to renew my faith and try to start again. I now have an amazing church, a wonderful relationship with God and am a ministry leader. I am so grateful for this song, for this band and for the love my Father has for me.

I just went to work three days ago after being out of work for a year to care for my brother with alcohol dementia in a nursing home. I educated myself about the disease, the present and future changes and the end result (which was his death in July, 2016). At my new job, I also heard a Christian song that brought me back to my need and my comfort from God. YOUR WORLD STOPS WHEN YOU HEAR THAT ONE SONG. GOD BLESS. I was not in a Hobby Lobby, where I work is a drug store business. God music ....all day! Hallelujah!

This is amazing! It took me so long to get used to my church. A lot of just sit at sermon and not serve, then serve a little, then I fell away from God and the church. I just went back last Sunday and it’s still the same only getting better because more churches are being planted. What church do you attend?

I love this song. I found out yesterday that I miscarried my first child. I heard this song on the way to the hospital this morning to have a procedure to remove the baby. It was such a helpful reminder that God loves me in every situation, in any situation, no matter what. So thank you. You have no idea how helpful I've found this song, and what it has done to help me in this situation.

So TRUE STORY, My granddaughter seven years old named Eliya, this is her favorite song she listens to it over and over. Her mom Heather asked her do you know what that means to be washed by the water? Eliya did'nt so her mom explained it to her. So GLORY BE TO GOD!! Eliya is asking to be baptized. Thank God that we worship a God that no matter how bad the storm is that we are traveling through if you truly seek refuge in the Lord not he won't just sprinkle a little bit of water on you but he will flood you with his living water and give you peace, joy, love and so much more if you truly lean on him even in most troubling times because he loves the praises of his people in the hardest times because it's easy to praise him on the mountain tops but the real value is the praises in the valleys. God is so good to us!

I"ll never forget seeing them play this at Summerfest in Milwaukee a few years back. It was an overcast day and near the end of this song it slowly started raining. It was just magical....Like for those few seconds we were literally washed by the water.

He won't be waiting on the other side. Instead he's with you every step of the way to help at any time. So keep it up and stay close to God and you'll be just fine.

I have loved this song since I heard it on the radio. I've listened to it countless times, but finally heard what the message at the end means: "Even when the rain falls/ Even when the flood starts rising/ Even when the storm comes/ I am washed by the water". God is good all the time. All the time God is good. Even in the worst times, God is there to cleanse us. Thanks, Needtobreathe. wow...hits me in the heart all the time, but at the same time I smile and my tears are of joy. My dad is a preacher and my parents have been in ministry for YEARS! Ive seen them go thru many things,ppl talking and judging and of course talking about their kids you know (the PK's) but still going on and serving God,knowing they are washed by the water. Well, now I am a grown adult with my own family and my husband is a pastor😊 feel blessed. Now I have experienced similar things and thats what we do, keep on praisin' , thanking God for using us and trusting us to do his work. I know HE is not done using us and God has a reason for everything. Thank you, I love you.

I've been loving this band and song for years. I was recently diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer. I don't want to let them pump me full of chemo.. you wouldn't even know I'm sick. I don't look sick. I'm fighting in other ways. This hits home different but the same. I never needed this song so much.

I'm an atheist, yes, but that is not, at all, stopping me from loving this song. I don't find religious meaning in it like the religious people listening to this song, but rather a view on life because it really keeps beating me down. I love this song and I've come back to it from time to time for the past 4 years.

It's about his dad and mom who dedicate their lives to sharing Christ to others. Then the types of people who seem to talk just because they can told him that he made a wrong choice (probably in choosing to be a poor, "lowly" preacher). In time, they faded and left them, since they weren't truly friends. Even through all that, his dad stayed strong, and he'll stay strong as well, and he'll make the best out of any hard situation he has to face.

i am a mom of 4 teenagers and i love this song!!!! - I got familiar w/this song on the local Christian radio station in Baltimore - & this video ROCKS. Thanks, needtobreathe - for an awesome song and for the powerful image of how the water of God and His word can renew us - have played this video 20 times this wk.

Glad I'm not the only atheist that's into them. I've actually had the pleasure of discussing this with Bo and he loves that the secular/non-religious crowd still finds meaning in their Christian influenced music. Great lyrics are great lyrics, no matter what inspired them.

This song is a true story of their father and an incident he went through. They are Christians and they are a band, but they are a secular band that has Christian influences. There are many interviews about this. Bear has commented many times that they do not want to be boxed in to the Christian label, but appreciates the support that the community gives the band.

this song speaks volumes on God's faithfulness and our struggle. To be drug through the ringer by those you love for truth's sake is worth it because it's truth. God can redeem the worst situation. Ultimately we are HIS. :)
