14c28n will hold a keener edge longer then any super steel. Not saying it will stay work sharp longer then super steels but it actually will hold the intial sharpness longer then most steel. Thats why its used for razor blades.

Wo, that's an interesting fact! Just bought a QSP with 14c28n, and was wondering how it may shape up. Razor shape blade, and i was a bit worried, but saw a steels chart saying it's 9 for toughness (out of 12) so reckoned it wouldn't snap, even tho very thin profile. Don't mind sharpening every so often.

I personally like to sharpen my blades on a worksharp. Doesn't leave as clean a finish, even with the really high grit belts, but I've never needed that. I also love to make the angles fairly steep (I have a 12° edge on a chopping knife), so even with the aggressive convex you still get a razor

Wish I could master using a sharpening stone like this. would make me feel so much better at putting edges on my blades using stones over my Lansky kits or my Wicked Edge sharpener. I usually keep clamp, 2 stones and strop from Lansky in my backpack while camping (just in case need to touch up anything I use for camping) but always use my Wicked Edge at home. can get some seriously sharp edges with the Wicked Edge but would love to learn to use stones over anything available. can use then for my straight razors but straight razors are imo a lot easier to sharpen than a folding knife or even a fixed blade.

If you can find one old phone book paper is my favorite for checking sharpness. It is thin, somewhat stiff and has a huge grain structure. If a knife will make long thin slices it is sharp. Certain knives will allow snap cuts of slivers without tearing. That is sharpness if the highest level.
