I really don’t think the MV compares to anything else on the market. Like you said, it’s like the bike equivalent of a Lamborghini. It’s a money-is-no-problem work of art.

Of all the preposterously powerful naked bikes I wasn't going to buy I wasn't going to buy the M.V. the most.

The main thing is if you can afford an MV you don't care about the cost.. its just that simple.

BMW S1000R still greatest naked ever built. Looks may be the taste thing, but i love it, its alive at every gear, naturaly goes down in twisties, throttle is as accurate as it can get, all in all best naked i have ever ridden. Not sure why you would need 200 hp bike for twice the price.

I love my 2019 BMW-HP S1000R, you don’t need anything more for the road, Grunt and power everywhere, and as you stated, The best “linked” brakes on any motorcycle I’ve ever ridden , and a Proven bulletproof engine in its 2019 form. 👍

I thought I wanted a super-naked. I took all the options for a spin. I bought a Ducati Multistrada 1260S. I have never regretted it.

Great series and I particularly loved this episode as I own a BMW S 1000 R and was very intrigued by the Brutale (though due to the price I never considered it as real buy candidate). I spent about a year picking a supernaked and there are no really bad options but here's why I finally went for BMW: Ducati Streetfighter=too expensive, not really that great in low revs, not very nimble i.e. not really great for the twisties. Tuono=fantastic (arguably a bit too aggressive) on the road, it was my prime candidate until I learnt that the valve services need to be done frequently (well ~10k km is not super frequent) and are very expensive, as are most of the maintenance services. Range is also pisspoor with ~180km irl but that's no biggy for me. Factory version (which I was eyeing ) a bit costly. Yam MT-10 SP=not too expensive (just a tad more than a full spec BMW without forged rims) but what put me down were lack of blipper (why Yamaha?) and the seating position which I found too upright. Kawa H2= too heavy, too much of a straight-line drag monster than a nimble curve-eater. KTM=also great, felt the most 'hooligany' to me in a sense that it seems to whisper to you "come on, go faster, it's okay". Also, I prefer the more cultivated 4-inline but the KTM twin has character, no doubt. The seating position is also very upright and while riding it somehow feels as if you are sittin right on top of your front wheel because there is hardly anything (dashwise and such) in front of you - I did not like that (the dash is great though). Bit more pricey than the BMW but not too much. BMW=great price with lots of bells and whistles (heated grips, quickshifter+blipper, curve ABS, semi-active suspension, etc.), seating position is a great compromise between sporty-forward and upright. Felt most nimble along with the Tuono and KTM. Very tight dealership net here in Germany is an nice additional bonus. Looks-wise, I actually did not like any of them except the Duc (which is still the easiest on my eyes at least) but kinda grew to like them all now. For my purposes (twisty roads mainly, occasional Autobahn runs, no track) it was a close call between Duke, Tuono, MT-10 SP, KTM and BMW. As it has been reiterated 1000s of times, they are all great bikes with lots of fun to be had!

IMO They're all just chasing the Tuono and god help them when Aprilia get around to updating the Tuono.

Michael is bar none, the best motorcycle vlogger there is. Keeps it real and down to earth, answers every question one might be thinking without worrying about who's toes he'll step on... he a reader not brand advocate - bravo !. I wonder if Suzuiki will finally come out with their Hyabusa or whatever they call it, super naked with variable valve inline 4 (and I even heard turbo) version of the GSXR.

The way the Bmw overtakes from normal road speeds in top gear is amazing, it really takes off .

This video has saved me a fortune! I have a Brutale 750 which I like immensly but I was falling under the spell of the Brutale 1000rr and was brewing up mad schemes to find the money to buy one. Then I find out that it still has the two least appealing characteristics of my ancient 750, namely, poor low end response and harsh ride!! Well that aint acceptable for the silly money price, especially when its contemporary competition is considered. I've sorted the harsh suspension on my 750, courtesy of Maxton and Ktech, and with an Arrow exhaust the low end is greatly improved. So I"ll be sticking with it for a while yet as it's now pretty quick with excellent handling and ride, and I don't need to find £27k!!

Is there a way to fix the throttle of older mv’s? And when did the ride by wire get to an acceptable point? Like what year ?

I rate my 2019 S1000R Sport very highly. Matching race headers to the Akro end can (immediate 8hp gain) and fitting a small touring screen and rack, it is a fast and practical ride. Looking forward to even more ponies and smoother fuelling below 2,000 revs once I get it remapped after the 3-year warranty runs out.

Nothing justifies the 27k for the MV. You buy it because you can and because you like it. That's it! On the other hand, it's amazing how well the BMW has aged!

if i want a s1000r should i wait for the new model to drop? My dealer has a 2021 S1000R but its the one you are talking about, not the new one with the different chasis and headlight. Thanks.

MCN hates Mvs. People don’t buy Mvs just for performance. Just like lambos, they buy them because they are Italian pieces of art; and MCN hardly mentions or cares about that.

Nice video. I looked it up, because I´m on the verge of selling my 2018 S1000R (catless, Brentuning Stage 2, forged wheels), since I do several track days (don´t want a superbike though) and the bimmer seems to lack power on the track and the brakes don´t impress on the track either. I was looking into the Ducati SFV4, but I didn´t like the price tag. All I hear is "buy a Tuono Factory". Michael, would you say I won´t be dissapointed by the Tuono? I know you said you would marry one. :) Thanks

I have a 2019 s1kr sport Hp , great all round bike and super reliable so far at 10,500 kms now , I got a test ride on a 2020 tuono v4 1100 factory recently & gotta admit I really liked that v4 engine , but I’m going to wait to see what the new Bmw s1kr version will turn out like first before deciding anything for next year , I think the tuono will probably get updated too soon also , but as u said the Bmw does have everything in the extras compartment which is always a bonus

I had an Aprilia 2017 TuonoRR. It was a magical bike but didn't like the inner city or workday commute. I now own the 2019 BMWs1000r. It's a ball tearing machine. Everything in one package & enough grunt to satisfy the best of us. If Aprilia gets the fueling down pat for the next-gen Tuono it will be interesting, to say the least. Happy as a clam with the s1000r & will be for many years.

The MV Agusta Rush - IT'S museum is them canyon twisties AND those straight lonely flat stretches.

People tend to underestimate bikes with “bland” taste. Remember, bland could be boring, but it also means it doesn’t have much flaw to begin with, and that isn’t easy. Plus, if you’re a everyday rider, S1000R has plenty to play with imo. I haven’t had S1000R my self, but I’d love to try one. Great review. Thanks for the vid

Been riding the S1000R 2017 for two years, everyday. Mileage is at 17k now. It’s amazing except for the cam tensioner rattling issue and fuel pump issue.

Calling S1000R owners, I'm looking at getting one but have read about high speed/acceleration wobble being an issue, even Neevesy shows it on his vids. Is it an issue ? Thanks.

Bmw s1000r is for me the best naked you can buy for the price, super bike with straight bars. Tried a lot of naked’s and bmw did everything for me, bought last year so even with everything else around I still couldn’t fault it, The Tuono was my next favourite but the bmw fully loaded last year was a much better deal over 2k cheaper and I preferred its straight 4 smoothness (Tuono sounded better). 200bhp naked’s are too much, i would rather keep my blistering 165 bhp naked and buy an additional 200bhp second hand sports bike (shopping for a second hand s1000rr). ZH, Naked V4, Brutale are not for me. Tuono or the new s1000r, yes please.

It’s fun to compare “without price”... But in the real world price is at least 50% of the factor for us mortals. So (for me anyway) the “price included” conclusion is all that counts.

I love my 2019 S1000R, but I'm so tempted to trade it for the 2020 1290R.. I had a 2017 1290R that was a bit of a lemon, which is what made me buy the BMW, because the warranty and dealer support is very good. But time heals all wounds as they say.. 😬

Speed triple rs 🤔 ?

Factually speaking, most people who buy and ride these bikes can’t get anywhere near the machine’s capabilities, whether it be from a rider ability standpoint or a lack of available environments to stretch their muscles or both frankly. Fact is, we buy bikes like this because they’re fun; to look at, ride, scare ourselves just a little or a lot. Either of these bikes will do that so I’d suggest you buy the one you want and admire the daylights out of it, ride till your butt hurts and learn to maintain your machine. Because it’s that rider, bike, road connection THATS really important to us. Honestly I’ll probably buy the Honda CB1000 because it’s half the price of these bikes and the service center is 10 miles away as opposed to 110 miles for either of these EuroMonster works of art. But in this case I’d rather the MV because it’s just BEAUTIFUL.

Loved this review at the time and owned a S1000R (2017) - sadly the new S1000R wasn't formidable, it was pricey shite. Now back on a 2019 S1000R after an expensive departure. The new bike in my opinion is Emperors New Clothes. The 2017-20 S1000R i think will become a much sought after bike.

Why no Honda CB1000R in your list?

Everyone has forgotten the former class king. The Speed Triple with "only" 140 ish bhp.... IMHO, nobody needs more than 120 bhp on the road, so the old 90's 955i and the 2005 on 1050's are still relevant, and in a lot of ways, better than the current crop.

If I am given the choice, I would buy the BMW s1000r or the Kawasaki Z1000 or any of the Japanese super naked, the prices are practical and very reasonable, moreover they a just marvelous..

My XR which is basically the same motor as the R, different geometry, more weight, feels quite gutless at low revs though. Not horrible, but can't agree to what's said here. Overtakes in 6'th are very slow unless past 6-7k rpm. Dyno charts between both the R and XR are very very similar. The R and XR barely produce 80hp at 6000 rpm....

I looked at the bmw but to expensive and reliability issues, Aprilia the same but ended up with a gsxs1000 best bike I've ever owned with a few mods later -better suspension +150hp and Japanese reliability, simplicity and easy to live with..

Great review as always. Seem funny but BMW are now the "value option". I have a F700 and couldn't be happier - it was (kind of) cheap in relation to other ADV's. I was looking at the S1000R and think it's amazing value. 165BHP is more than we'll ever use on the road and on-track - well, get a track bike I guess unless you're just doing it for fun - none of these nakeds will "win" a race. I rode the 1000XR (same engine I think) and you don't need gears - literally, stay in 6th and twist - wow. BMW for me.

I don't think that this machine can be reviewed in its full this way, you need to own one and then post an opinion about it. The engine on the RS is not the same as in the RR, Oro, Rush or Nürburgring. The engine for the RR, Oro, Rush or Nürburgring is the same engine used in the F4 RC WSBK bike, literally the same. The bike come factory with a 16-tooth front sprocket. On the RR gift box there's a 15-tooth sprocket. I waited the 600 miles period for the 1st oil change then I changed to the 15-tooth, and it changed the whole dynamic of the bike. MV sell the race kit which consist of the ECU and full titanium exhaust. I recommend adding this to this platform is a whole different thing. It will change this to a WSBK bike. You'll have more 200 hp to the wheel instead of the crank with the new ECU and in the process loose about 18kg/40 lbs. and eliminated the under pipe which heats the seat. I've raced Ferraris, Lambos, Hayas with and without turbo and everything in between and none, absolutely not one of them come to even 0.0002% of the acceleration of this beast. If you think is quick now, comparing it to OEM is like comparing a 1000cc bike with a 150cc scooter. Instead of waking up at 9k RPMS now it is always wake up and after 6k rpm better hold on to dear life because it will go to hyper drive. Neutral in OEM trim is 1250 rpms with the race ECU is 1450 rpms. It sounds like an Italian F1 V8 the sound is very impressive; I can't even turn it on after 7 pm to avoid problem with neighbors. If you own one of these incredible machines, I encourage you to make the effort and spend the extra 4k euros and get the race kit it is worth every penny. The reason MV sell OEM this bike this way with the 16-tooth and the constraint factory ECU is that normal people will not get scared of this machine. In race trim she does not like it under 3k rpms, does not like to do any kind normal rides (like going 65 steady) with a bunch of other bikes. I ride alone on the MV it's either on or off, no in-between. you have to ride with compromised to get max out of it. do not grab those clips on just let her do her thing and the bikes glides in the corners is very impressive. I can say with confidence that at 170 mph the wings and the damper work extremely well. The bike does not have an anti wheele instead is a front lift control which permits the bikes front wheel lift the right amount to give the rear wheel the maximum of grip. My cousin owns a GT500 a 427AC Cobra and a GT40 and believe me is faster than any of those. I do not race with anyone no more is no fun with this bike. I just ride alone very fast and then go home.

Amazing that MV has gone backwards with their bikes. My old 910 was a waaay better bike than the 1090. Went to the dealer to trade in the old MV and when I tested the new one it felt like a POS... no power down low, then rocket blast at 8000 rpm.... the old one had gobs of power everywhere. 0-110 it was an absolute blast....handling was also great. But Had some gremlins and had to go... otherwise never would have let it go...

Will we see these supernakeds on track? That’s where the Mv would kill!
