This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And these two do a perfect job. Listening to it again, I noticed that Neil does one verse that I have never heard before but can't quite make it out..
@tmdolores16 жыл бұрын
Hi Barbara, I agree with you about the song. Which verse presents the problem? I could supply you with the words. This was one of the songs I used as illustration in my Toastmasters advanced speech series of five presentations on "Irish History Through Music"which focuses on storytelling. I sang all three verses, accompanied on my autoharp - it was well-received and told an important bit of Irish history during the potato famine of the mid-1800s and deportation of many Irish to Australia at that time. It was this song that actually got me interested in learning more about Irish history and presenting it and other Irish folk music to Toastmaster audiences in my area.

Dolores, it is at 2:03 where It sounds like Neil says, "Against the famine and the crown......." I can't really understand what he says.

Right so far! Then "I rebelled, and they ran me down. Now you must raise our child with dignity".

All right ! That makes perfect sense. With Neil's thick Irish brogue I just couldn't make out the words. thank you so much.

Delores, one more thing. Do you have your presentation on video and if so did you ever post it on line? I am very interested in Irish history. i am 27% Irish !

I knew it! I have always wanted to take my 27% Irish to visit Ireland. But here I am in Simi Valley, CA for the last 60+ years. It is the home of Ronald Reagan''s Presidential Library.Three of my 5 kids were born in San Diego, a cold and clammy place in my opinion. Never been to San Fran.
