people often have the extremely wrong and bad take that One Week is about a guy who kills his girlfriend. It's not, it's about exactly what it sounds like and there's no hidden meaning. It's completely literal. This song, however, *is* about a guy who kills his girlfriend.

As someone in that "I'm approaching 40 but can't believe it" age range, I can safely say that Neil has perfectly captured the contents of the aging Millennial brain with these songs. They're weird, horrifying amalgamations of various half-remembered moments of our youth that somehow lurch their way out of the dark to become almost transcendent. They hover ominously somewhere between the disturbing and the sublime, and I dig that. Well done, my dude.

I like to imagine the start of the song as taking place in a dark, snowy forest in Ontario, where you're hiding behind a large maple tree. Your wounds sting in the freezing wind, but you grit your teeth in an attempt to stay quiet and undetected. But what's that noise? Is that.... the Canadian national anthem? As the patriotic tune grows in volume, you hear footsteps crunching in the snow somewhere nearby. Your heart feels like it's going to beat out of your chest, and you struggle to control your breathing in your panic. Suddenly, you see him coming towards you, wielding an axe that's dripping blood into the pure white snow. It's Ed Robertson, the lead singer of the hit rock band "Barenaked Ladies." And he's ready to laugh at your funeral.

This song is a shining example of Neil's genius. Just from the title and the intro, you would immediately think that he's about to mix "Smooth Criminal" with "Smooth", and are left wondering why you just heard a fragment of "O Canada"... and then "One Week" kicks in, completely subverting your expectations. You know you're in for a hell of a ride. And then right near the end, when you've resigned yourself to this fate, "Smooth" finally shows up and your brain explodes.

that's because a lot of songs, pop songs in particular, that follow the same structure and usage of 4/4 time. so once you account for tempo differences, it'd be extremely easy to splice them together. the real challenge is making something catchy and unique with it, which cicierga does way too damn well.
@TorutheRedFox4 жыл бұрын
4/4 time matching isn't enough in a lot of cases the structure of the song needs to somewhat match too (i.e. having the chorus come on at the same time after matching the tempo)

lyrics: It's been one week since you looked at me Cocked your head to the side and said, "I'm angry" Five days since you laughed at me, saying "Get back together, come back and see me" Three days since the living room I realized it's all my fault, but couldn't tell you Yesterday, you'd forgiven me But it'll still be two days 'til I say I'm sorry Hold it now and watch the hoodwink As I make you stop, think You'll think you're looking at Aquaman I summon fish to the dish, although I like the Chalet Swiss I like the sushi 'cause it's never touched a frying pan Hot like wasabi when I bust rhymes Big like LeAnn Rimes, because I'm all about value Bert Kaempfert's got the mad hits You try to match wits, you try to hold me but I bust through Gonna make a break and take a fake I'd like a stinking aching shake I like vanilla, it's the finest of the flavours Gotta see the show, 'cause then you'll know The vertigo is gonna grow 'Cause it's so dangerous, you'll have to sign a waiver How can I help it if I think you're funny when you're mad? Trying hard not to smile, though I feel bad I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral Can't understand what I mean? Well, you soon will I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve I have a history of taking off my shirt It's been one week since you looked at me Threw your arms in the air and said, "You're crazy" Five days since you tackled me I've still got the rug burns on both my knees It's been three days since the afternoon You realized it's not my fault not a moment too soon Yesterday, you'd forgiven me And now I sit back and wait 'til you say you're sorry It's - It's been It's - been Chickity China, the Chinese chicken You have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin' Watching X-Files with no lights on We're dans la maison I hope the Smoking Man's in this one Like Harrison Ford, I'm getting frantic Like Sting, I'm tantric Like Snickers, guaranteed to satisfy Like Kurosawa, I make mad films, 'kay, I don't make films But if I did they'd have a Samurai Gonna get a set of better clubs Gonna find the kind with tiny nubs Just so my irons aren't always flying off the back-swing Gotta get in tune with Sailor Moon 'Cause that cartoon has got the boom anime babies That make me think the wrong thing How can I help it if I think you're funny when you're mad? Trying hard not to smile, though I feel bad I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral Can't understand what I mean? You soon will I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve I have a history of losing my shirt It's been one week since you looked at me Dropped your arms to the sides and said, "I'm sorry" Five days since I laughed at you and said "You just did just what I thought you were gonna do" Three days since the living room We realized we're both to blame but what could we do? Yesterday, you just smiled at me 'Cause it'll still be two days 'til we say we're sorry It'll still be two days 'til we say we're sorry It'll still be two days 'til we say "Wasabi" Birchmount Stadium, home of the Robbie It's been It's been It's been (It's been) It's been (It's been) It's been (It's beeeeeeen) It's been (It's beeeeeeen) It's been It's been It's - It's - It's - It's been (it's and been's that i am not writing) This life ain't good enough I- It's been My world to lift you up I- It's been My life to better suit your mood Cause your so smooth It's been Just like the ocean, under the moon It's been Same as the emotion that I get from [Harrison Ford] You got the kind of loving that can be so smooth Give me your heart - make it real, or just forget about it (brainrot of One Week, Smooth, and Smooth Criminal ensues)

I dothreside the Monarchal Confederation that is the Dominion of Canada. The oily and wheaty part that has pirates. I'm not sure if this is even weird at all because of how ass-backwards everything in Alberta is. Does the government make the laws that keep the oil companies in check? Or do the oil companies keep the government in check with their monopoly on the economy? The Progressive Conservative party in Alberta have been the lapdogs of the oil companies for too long. They had 40 years in office, and once the NDP got voted in and they tried to diversify the economy and install the carbon tax people are too small minded and not focusing enough on the big picture about what it means for the Province, Canada, and the world.
