Neil deGrasse Tyson on India's Moon Landing & Its Significance | Firstpost POV
India has started exploring the Moon's surface with its Pragyan rover, after it became the first nation to land a craft near the largely unexplored lunar south pole. What does India's achievement mean for the world and what can U.S. and other countries learn from it? American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson tells you on Firstpost POV.

Amen. I failed physics and chemistry in high school, however I loved and aced biology because the teacher was amazing, the way he taught us the subject was just so perfect and interesting. While physics and chemistry were taught by this teacher who didn't bother to explain any concepts well, shamed us if we didn't understand a topic or subject, it was a traumatic experience. Whereas now I absolutely love physics and chemistry and anything to do with science.

I am disappointed at his ignorance. First of all they already took 1/7 from us Post-independence, & 30% pre-independence, while 84% of them voted for Pakistan. They are lucky we are not kicking them out into the sea. So much waste came out of us. There are more than twice as there should allowed to be.1

So inspiring! Congrats to India 🏆🇮🇳 from Jamaica 🇯🇲 -- and thanks to Dr. Neil for these excellent comments. Now I'm wondering: could the Artemis Accord's Outer Space Treaty serve as a model for future international collaboration in space? This is so cool -- as a Star Trek fan, It's feeling like a precursor to "Starfleet" -- a global (peaceful) space-faring organization, made up of all Earth cultures; humanity as a whole. 🌍🌏
@gautamv952
@gautamv952 11 ай бұрын
Firstly, thanks for the good wishes, brother! Next, on the topic of extending the Artemis Accords, the idea is very beautiful. The slight nit is that we are still far from making space explorations/travel an affordable activity for the public, or even for significant citizens. Even India's own achievement here has come at the cost of expenditure of a pretty large sum of money for a country that is still an emerging economy. Of course, when we reach that day, I'd love to see the treaty being owned equally by all countries, not by a special few. 😉

Thanks for your thoughtful comments,@@gautamv952. (And I'm a sister, but no worries.) By all means we nations of the world can and should develop new and better treaties than the Artemis. My point was only that we may borrow inspiration from the Outer Space Treaty's emphasis on peaceful space missions and international sharing of scientific data. As to the vision of Starfleet, it's not necessarily intended for implementation today, merely to inspire us and future generations toward collaboration. If children's minds are not inspired, what can they work towards?

On the other, we cannot tolerate it if they expose our shortcomings. According to people like you: 1. Whatever the West says is Gospel truth (Veda Vakyam) 2. The West is forever superior to India 3. The West should ONLY shower lavish praises on India 4. The West should NEVER point out any flaws in anything Indian. Then we ask them to apply Burnol. What sort of neo-culture is this?

Thank you Mr Niel for your honest opinion on Chandrayaan-3. India's entry to space was required to break the monopoly of few countries. It's time all the biggest economy join together for more missions instead of keeping the knowledge with themselves. Let's bring the knowledge to the world. This would benefit world at large.

Lol “monopoly” how many countries make a monopoly 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or 10 ??? Out of 180+ countries 4th one done that and now monopoly of 3 is broken ??? Or maybe now it’s 4 who have the monopoly over space ?? Wtf or maybe india will share this technology with others to break the monopoly and will help his neighbours also do the same 😂

No 50 nations won't because it takes a lot of factors and others won't do the things that 4-5 nations have done already. There might be 7-8 nations because Japan, Israel are also interested in it And now Japan will do moon mission with India. It will be US, China, Russia, India mainly doing many space mission. UAE might join...

He is as dangerously uninformed (or perhaps they want to stay that way) about India's cultural climate. He can very well talk abt his country and not ours. This is a Post graduate researcher in the field of Science (to be specific Renewable Energy and Smart Grids) telling. These westerners have HORRIBLE perspective abt Bharat.

9:33 Respectfully sir, you do not understand the full scope of the conflict. A significant portion of the Muslim community harbor hatred, openly support terrorists, and want to bring Sharia law to a diverse country. Some Muslims who want to be part of a progressive India are ruthlessly silenced. Did you speak knowing about the poor tailor who was beheaded? We want to welcome all people jnto thia. Parsis, Jains, Buddhists, Christians and Muslims. But the last category of people have bit our hands far too many times to count. Not to mention very few in that community are focused on proper education. I still remember this one woman who opened a birthay and celebration cake business. She just made a cake for a customer for Christmas. Her community was so condescending toward her, accusing her of celebrating festivals outside her religion and other such nonsense. It was heartbreaking.Her business is thriving, but the comments and threats haven't stopped. We admire her for her courage.

Neil Sir, The way India kept the costs of the Chandrayaan mission down, is by using the slingshot, gravity assisted approach to the moon which took 40 days but cost a lot less. The orbiter went through multiple revolutions around the earth with each being a little further out, until it was pulled into Moon's gravitational orbit. ISRO had to do this because they do not have rockets as powerful as the US which can get you to the moon in less than 4 days. So this limitation, actually worked in India's favor in terms of keeping the cost down.

Dr Neil, I've a lot of respect for your knowledge and the eloquent articulation of the subject matter. Thanks for explaining why low cost missions are necessary. Great point. About the participations of all sections of the society - The current indian govt is doing all they can to educate and bring up the Muslim community. E.g. Women empowerment is the most important first step Modi govt has recently taken by banning triple talak. There has been no segregation in independent India. The vedic culture does not support that either. The fact that the father of space program Dr Sarabhai and the father of Missile program Dr Abdul Kalam both were from Minority group tells us that the Indian Science and Tech is not restricted to the majority community. Thanks for reminding us about the mass participation!

Neil is misinformed by people and media around him. The main problem is seeing them as vote bank and appeasing them them by not empowering them in terms of education by Muslim political parties where they are in majorities. They make sure that they are not educated so that they can be manipulated to vote in terms of religion. This is what congress party has facilitated for MIM party and same is being done by current party in the Hyderabad old city. That party city doesn't do any development. Those areas are very ugly.

But the fact that he sounded (at 9:13 ) as if the Indian space programs are neglecting/preventing the participation of muslims or other minorities, shows the level of understanding of him about India and it's unity among multi-cultural diversity. His reference about civil rights movement in US is correct, but can he say that even today US is neglecting it's minorities. So this whole point is meaningless today for both US & India.
