Keyword "figured out". You can't succeed just because you've been failing, you have to actually figure out how to improve whatever it is you're failing at. I've been struggling to figure out what I want to do for a long time in my life, nearly everyday, at the end of the day, I feel horribly depressed about how not well my life has been going. But I won't give up, I will persist through everything to make my life better. And anyone out there struggling like me, you can't succeed if you aren't persistence enough so keep fighting.

Grahame Heatlie I like NDT a lot. I’ve listened to his podcasts for years, read his books, have DVD sets with him speaking, watched hundreds of these videos of him online .... that said .... of all of his traits, I’m not sure “humility” is one of them.

@@olliegueret2963 That's not what I said at all. Let me clarify, I dig NDT and his work and love listening to him, all I meant to say is that … to me … my perception of him … no one else … is that he does not come across as "humble". If you feel differently ... that's ok. I don't plan to debate my perception of NDT ... so I hope that clarifies.

Tyson earned an AB degree in physics at Harvard College in 1980 and then began his graduate work at the University of Texas at Austin,[20] from which he received an MA degree in astronomy in 1983. By his own account, he did not spend as much time in the research lab as he should have. His professors encouraged him to consider alternate careers and the committee for his doctoral dissertation was dissolved, ending his pursuit of a doctorate from the University of Texas.[21] Tyson was a lecturer in astronomy at the University of Maryland from 1986 to 1987[22] and in 1988, he was accepted into the astronomy graduate program at Columbia University, where he earned an MPhil degree in astrophysics in 1989, and a PhD degree in astrophysics in 1991[23] under the supervision of Professor R. Michael Rich. Rich obtained funding to support Tyson's doctoral research from NASA and the ARCS foundation[24] enabling Tyson to attend international meetings in Italy, Switzerland, Chile, and South Africa[22] and to hire students to help him with data reduction.[25]

Don't you feel sorry for the people who think science is evil, who think the world is flat, and who believe the cosmos was made in a week, and the first men rode dinosaurs? THINK of all they're depriving themselves of! Knowledge is not only power; it's FUN. Everyone has areas of ignorance, but that's to the good. The fun of knowledge is in the way it cures ignorance. Sometimes I wish I could read a certain VERY special book again - but for the first time! Does that happen to you? But just THINK of the deprivation of so many millions who don't even WANT to read books! Trump can't read, or if he can, it isn't much. He's in a perpetual rage, too. Could it be that somehow he has found out what he's been depriving himself of all his life? Naahh. Can you imagine him watching - and appreciating - movies such as "Enemy Mine" or "The Gods Must be Crazy"? You know, tales of how people learn and become entirely comfortable among people who are different? Isaac Asimov was called "The Great Explainer." Which he certainly was. Then came Carl Sagan, who was superb, but not quite as effective as an explainer, but was thoroughly knowledgeable and good with words. Now we have Neil DeGrasse Tyson, who seems to have the talents of both men (except, of course, that Asimov was a Biochemistry Professor, so he knew a whole lot more on biological subjects than either of the other two. In fact, Asimov made a point of become expert in just about all fields. His books run through the whole Dewey decimal system in the library. In that one regard, he's still the best explainer). But Mr. DeG Tyson is a welcome, warm stream of sanity and clear thinking. We've lost the other two, but he's a thorough explainer on the cosmos, as good as Asimov was on that subject. I particularly loved that one bit he called "Brain Droppings." I sure hope he isn't trying to be a rock star! He's doing what he does best, and we are the beneficiaries of his talents. I'd like to hug him. I'm learning here that I'm not the only one who listens to his sane, gentle, hate-absent words and his kindly humor, and it washes over my mind like a soothing balm. Being decent isn't just a way to fight fascists. It's also a thing in and of itself, and it feels good to be decent.
